Sinopsis

The Demon Door can be opened...but the price is deadly.
Rhuun, the half-human heir to the demon throne of Eriis, has found acceptance among the humans on Mistra. He even found love with the tempting and infuriating human, Lelet va’Everly.
With Lelet at his side, his ability to create fire has finally awakened, proving that he is not the cursed cripple all of Eriis believed him to be. There are secrets in his blood, unique and powerful...and worth killing for.
When Rhuun is betrayed and tricked into returning to Eriis, Lelet has no choice but to turn to exiles, children, and madmen to save him. She must do the impossible: transform herself into a demon and travel to a forgotten city to make an agonizing bargain for his life.
Surrounded by dark Mages, a war-hungry Queen, mercurial Goddesses, and enemies on every side, the demon prince and the human woman will find the Court of Eriis a subtle and dangerous place, and one false move could doom them both.
Best-selling author Kim Alexander works her magic once again, creating a novel with worlds that are as rich and complex as her characters. The Heron Prince is the second book of The Demon Door series.

I am so in love with The Demon Door series, and this 2nd book is so exciting as we find that Rhuun known as Moth in the human world of Mistra, has finally found acceptance as well as love and is enjoying all the new experiences in this very different world to his. However he is now taken forcibly back to Eriis, the demon world he came from. So the door which had previously been so difficult to open was suddenly once again opened. Lelet his beloved in Mistra was shocked that he was taken from her, and though usually she is thought of as flighty and irresponsible she proves to be his rock and is ready to fight tooth and claw to get him back, going to such lengths as to go through the door to the demon realm. Lelet makes Scilla her sister and brother Olly open the door to send her through, with Scilla going so far as to change her to make her look a demon. Lelet arrives in Eriis to find that the prince had been imprisoned and was being tortured for his blood by the mages who experimented on him, as well as by the counselor who was doing his best to steal the seat of power from Rhuun's mother. All Lelet had when she arrived on Eriis was one name, one word, and the support of her elder sister May who never doubted her. I love this very exciting book, it's thrilling to read but I feared so much for the lives of both our young lovers. I really admire both Lelet as well as Arelle who is proving to be a good friend to both of them after all! I definitely need to read book 3 in this awesome series. Andrea Stewart42 1 follower

This story continues on from the first in the series, The Sand Prince. I have come to realize that I love the characters in this series! Some of them I never would have guessed that I would so much and be so loyal to. That’s a great sign of a wonderful writer! Lelet and Rhuun have such a wonderful and passionate love that is deeply undeniable and leaps off the pages! They make you root for them and sob for them and feel everything that they are feeling.

This series has so many revelations as to what is happening in both Eriis and in Mistra. I love that it goes back and forth and we get to experience what is going on in each world and how eventually it all comes together with the ultimate fate of each character. I cannot wait to dive into The Glass Girl and find out where the lives of Lelet and Rhuun go as well as what we will find out about those that disappeared during the war of the weapon!

This is a five star read in a five star series! If you have not experienced the wonderful writing of Kim Alexander then go and grab The Sand Prince and take the leap! You will not regret it! Sarah Elyse | Retro Girl Reads1,319 78

“The Heron Prince” is the second book in Kim Alexander’s epic fantasy series, The Demon Door, and it picks up right where the first book left off.

I thought this book was a fantastic sequel! I was already invested in this world and these characters, but this book went more in depth when it came to both, which is something I could appreciate.

There’s definitely a lot of political intrigue at play here, and that’s part of why this series is so interesting! I also enjoyed the character development of the established characters, and learning more about new characters.

I also really loved how complex this world is. So much is happening at once, but it all ties together, which results in plot twists and aha moments that I don’t always see coming. The cliffhanger ending was also a shocker, and I’m very excited to see what happens next in this series! Valerie Roberson396 7

As all the others, this was fantastic! The characters and the storyline are unforgettable. It may have been some time in between, but in the first few pages, just one word had it all flooding back to me from the book before this one. I love these characters as they intertwine with each other and bring new light to the story. I’m sad that it’s the end, but maybe, just maybe, we will learn of Moth and Lelet , Ilaan and Niico , and the rest of them as their lives together change for the good I hope. So here’s looking forward to more if possible and if not, thank you for the first 4 books, they are awesome!16-and-older adult-content review Rosemary Hughes3,441 19

Our epic saga continues, with friends and foe on both sides of the Door. With Rhuun having been tricked into returning to Eriis, Lelett encouraged her sister and Ollie to find a way for her to follow. Let's just say, things get much more interesting from this point. Jessica197714

“Well, we have to go get him back, don’t we?”

Yes. Yes, you definitely have to go get Rhuun back. That goes for you, too, Kim Alexander – please do keep getting Rhuun back. Because whatever can be said about the editing (for this book was as bad in terms of textual errors as the first one), it still doesn't matter: the world-building, the story, the characters shine through with a brilliance that just makes everything near it on the shelf look bad. The Heron Prince and its predecessor are exactly the type of book which you need to devour because you need to know what happens and because you're having such a great time – but which you try to stretch out because the faster you read it the sooner you'll be done and be faced with the enormous challenge of finding something that can follow it.

The setting and worldbuilding are kind of magnificent. You've got Mistra, which is kind of here and now, only not really – maybe more Jane Austen's England, but not really. It's Earth-. There are horses (or are those dogs?) and chocolate, and a place where people learn the lore of demons.

And you've got Eriis. That's where the demons come from. Eriis is sand and heat and a red-eyed people with wings, and it's utterly alien. It takes some getting used to. Get used to it – it's more than worth it. Eriis just awes me, because of its utter alienness – in which setting the people, the "demons", are both also utterly alien and utterly approachable. They have loves and hates and loyalties that make them comprehensible, even while everything around them is strange and wonderful.

If you had told me at the beginning of The Sand Prince that I would be as fiercely loyal to Lelet as I am to Rhuun, I wouldn't have believed you. If you had told me that I'd come to love Lelet's sister and Rhuun's mother, I would have quietly assumed you were insane. If you had told me at the end of The Sand Prince that I would love Rhuun even more by the end of The Heron Prince, I would have boggled at the impossibility of that much affection for a fictional character who is not Anne Shirley or Samwise Gamgee. And yet.

And Rhuun's transformation(s) - ? Broke my heart in such a good way.

I can't wait for the third book.

Duplicity, determination, culture clash, and edge of the seat suspense make this book, which picks up where the coming of age Sand Prince leaves off, an addictive read. Lelet discovers her hidden talents, while Rhuun's talent for hiding becomes life-threatening in a page-turning fantasy that steeped in the atmospheres of other worlds, other times, stays relevant. This story grows the characters, themes and plot of the mesmerizing Sand Prince. KarnagesMistress1,150 11 Want to read

I won a copy of this book.

This book was okay. I didn't read the first of the series, so that may have had to do with it. books-won Stalking291 7

The intelligent writing style of the author continues into this second book of the series. The Heron Prince is an exciting adventure of exploration and intrigue. I find it captivating how well the author showcases the natures of two different worlds and their inhabitants. In the world of Mistra so much time has passed since the war that the demons of Eriis are considered creatures of myth. Yet in the world of Eriis the demons are still struggling to find their way back to their previous lifestyles and many cannot forget or forgive the humans for causing so much pain and destruction. This is a marvelous look at human nature; where those who have “defended” themselves from evil can easily move on and put those frightful times behind them to the point where they no longer clearly see the other side or their hand in what transpired. While those who were attacked, struggle to come to grips with the loss of traditions, life as it was before, and the effect it has on an entire world. This story is a tale of caution to never forget history but also that people don’t always see the same events in the same way. I absolutely love how the characters have grown and progressed throughout the story arch and being a second book in a series does not slow any aspect of the plot down at all. From beginning to end I was invested in the happenings of both worlds. One difference from the first book was each chapter no longer explained the time change, in book one. I found that made it easier to just go with the flow instead of trying to comprehend how much time had passed in either world. It made for a much smoother read, although it was necessary for the first book. I highly recommend this series; it mixes paranormal, romance, mystery, and political intrigue very well. The author sent me a copy of this story and this is my honest review. ***Review has been done in conjunction with Nerd Girl Official.
