You may now kill the bride is a wedding themed thriller with lots of satire and dark diabolical humour for the reader to devour.

We have five best friends who have known each other since ages 3/4 , still prominent in each-others lives, yet somewhat distanced by growing into fully fledged adults with careers and families of their own.

Two of the besties are engaged to be married soon, one engaged after only 4 months in a rapid fire wedding, the other had to wait more than a decade for the proposal and is now feeling tremendous pressure to out WOW the other with the wedding of the century, causing her to commit various crimes in order to fund all the extravagance.

On the eve of the first hen do, there is an unfortunately death amongst the bridal party. What could easily be chalked up to a tragic accident wins over the police side eye to what now seems a potential murder.

When the other bride to be refuses to delay her wedding plans, a second bridal shower takes place, leading to further tragic accidents. Except now two deaths seems more than just a suspicious coincidence.

With a race to figure what is actually going on before the big day arrives, we the reader also race to figure out who the culprit could be. Except with the flash backs to the past we catch glimpses of situations revealing that pretty much everyone has a means and a motive to murder.

What originally appears to be a life long tight-nit group of besties is actually a gang of jealous, hateful, shady women who are harbouring secrets of their own. Tensions start to show fissures within the group and we have blackmail, betrayal, secret affairs and all sorts of drama and chaos.

This was a really fun read. I enjoyed the pettiness of each of the characters, all of them pretty much unable but in a way that didnÂ’t ruin the book. I enjoyed the whodunnit plot style. The ending to the book was honestly hilarious; without giving anything away I fully enjoyed the dialogue and situation surrounding the arrest, and the casual tone throughout the whole process.

The narcissism and self absorption made for good humour amongst the thriller killer tones. I found this an easy quick read and would recommend for anyone looking for a light not so serious thriller as a delightful palette cleanser.

THANKS TO NETGALLEY AND PUBLISHER FOR THIS ADVANCE REVIEW COPY IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW.

This is the story of five childhood best friends who grew up supporting and defending each other. Although with time there are groups and subgroups inside the big circle. They established a hierarchy and accepted the nature of each other for what they were. It doesn't mean they are angles, they hurt each other all the time, sometimes on purpose and sometimes not. Those events have been piling up in their hearts but they can't be said out loud.  One of my friends decided to get married but ended up getting dead on her hen do and it didn't end there. Someone got the taste of murder and some serial killer is on the loose.

This book started with a lot of potential but at one point it started to feel dragged, and the second half recovered the pace. The vibe could have been so dark, but the writing style made it kinda funny and light read. These friends of so selfish and nonserious, people are dying still they are more concerned about their weddings and looks. I d the concept and story. It was an enjoyable read.2024-read netgalley5 s Tracyj6k 4

Thank you NetGalley Random House and Kate Weston for my free digital copy. I was drawn to this book by its title and I was not disappointed. What could go wrong when five childhood best friends get together at a bachelorette party? Murder of course. Readers who enjoyed “Dial A for Aunties “ and “Counterfeit” will enjoy reading this book. AMAZING, HILARIOUS, TWISTY and CONSUMING

I am stumped on what I can say about this amazing mashup of hilarity, murder, thrills, romance and two pending weddings to explain it's awesomeness. Weston has smashed together the best of all the kinds of books I enjoy and made a book that I want to be my best friend!

The Catchline says it all: "The bride-to-be drops dead at her bachelorette weekend, with all of her bridesmaids as suspects for her murder, in this wry thriller full of deadly twists and characters youÂ’ll love to hate.

You May Now Kill the Bride features Lauren, Saskia, Dominica, Farah, and Tansy, Adults who remained childhood best friends. The addition of the new girlfriend of Farah's brother Eva adds sufficient drama gives us a group of British women with distinctive personalities similar to your own friends. The group has been through lots of life events but still find time to gather and have the best conversations - I laughed aloud quite a bit.

But before you get too comfortable, there's a murder - one of the friends! Before her wedding! Is it due to a secret the friends share from high school or is it something more recent? When the police get involved and the very self-involved Farah demands to move forward with her own Hen-do, more deaths occur. Who is behind this murder mayhem. Part social commentary, women's fiction, thriller - mystery and completely hilarious this is a great book to share with your best friends!

With a title that, I was always going to read this. Thanks so much to Headline for granting my wish on NetGalley for this book.

What a fun and entertaining read. This did make me laugh many times. I really enjoy a murder book laced with humour. None of these characters were particularly able and any of them could have been the killer. A bride to be murdered at her hen doÂ… tell me more.

Definitely kept me guessing, changing my mind throughout as to who was the killer. A fun popcorn thriller, worth the read.

I ended up DNFÂ’ing at 12%. It just wasnÂ’t grabbing my attention IÂ’d hoped. I wasnÂ’t a fan of the plot line when the friends were children. I understand why the author included those chapters, to show us how the girls came into the roles they have presently, but it was just meh. dnf3 s Shannon5,544 311

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of You May Now Kill the Bride.

The best thing about You May Now Kill the Bride is the title. I love it. The cover, too.

Sadly, I didn't feel the same way about the narrative.

** Minor bridezilla spoilers ahead **

The story is a common cliche in this genre; a group of frenemies gather together for the wedding of their oldest dearest friend.

Until the friend drops dead.

Naturally, all the 'friends' have secrets they're keeping from one another, not to mention the 'big one' two of them share but that's not the point.

The point is that all the women in the story are shallow, superficial, one dimensional ninnies who only care about getting married, having the most outrageous wedding, believing their lives are full and happy once they have a man by their side.

UGHHHHHH....

As the story unfolds, we get flashbacks into how the friends became a collective group, their personal dramas, and how each of them had a reason to kill the bride.

We also get plenty of filler about the ladies' partying at various hen dos (bachelorette parties in the USA) and getting seriously wasted.

Why is there so much drinking in books or is it just me?

There's very little suspense and urgency as the repetitive nature of the ladies whine and catcall and bicker gets boring fast.

I didn't blink eye as people dropped dead.

I didn't care about anyone so I didn't care who remained standing.

There were a few revelations I figured out, including Eva's true identity.

It was pretty obvious who she was.

Most of the men were deplorable, but then so were most of the women.am-i-thrilled kindle netgalley ...more1 Kala Rose241

This thriller had me hooked right from the start and proved to be the perfect sarcastic, dark humour read!

Readers meet the characters as they are en route to a hen-do weekend. Tansy, the bride-to-be, has her party organized by Saskia, an aspiring party planner hoping to boost her online influencer status. Amidst the festivities, Farah is busily planning her own wedding, Dominica is immersed in a divorce case, Lauren is receiving texts from her ex, Joss, and shooting glares at Eva, his new flame, who was introduced to him by none other than Tansy herself. Through multiple POV's readers slowly unravel the years of history and deceit between this women, and get a glimpse into each of their inner thoughts.

The plot takes a dark turn when Tansy is promptly murdered, casting suspicion on all the bridesmaids. Through skillful use of flashbacks, we delve into their intricate past relationships with Tansy and each other. What emerges is a revelation that their bond is not driven by genuine friendship but rather a shared fear of someone unveiling their secrets.

The book's witty satire and sarcasm throughout were thoroughly enjoyable, and I found myself genuinely surprised by the killer's identity. I had many theories throughout the book but the ending genuinely shocked me, I also appreciated how while some details were wrapped up, some were kept up in the air left to the reader's own interpretation.

I'll be honest what first drew me to this book was the cover and the title. Unfortunately I didn't what was inside as much as the cover.
When this starts we get all the characters dumped on us at once and as none of them are well defined, or have any backstory, I really struggled to differentiate them. This then continued throughout the whole book. Which one is talking now? Who is she? Not a clue.
Because of this I was never invested in the plot or cared about the characters. One of them died? Oh well. Didn't know which one she was anyway so it didn't matter to me.
Whilst this is trying to depict life long female friendships, none of the characters actually seemed to each other that much.
As this is written by a comedian, I was hoping we would get some good humour. Unfortunately this was a fail as well. There were some lines that did make me smile but overall it all felt pretty juvenile.
Don't be fooled into thinking this is a thriller or murder mystery. This felt to me much more contemporary fiction. It is all about weddings with a tiny bit of murder thrown in. It concentrated on that so much it did feel repetitive and it didn't need to be over 400 pages long.
The ending also did feel rushed to me, I had to go back a page to see if I missed something. I didn't.
So, whilst this was a total flop for me, I wasn't exactly having a great time reading it.

Five women who have been friends since grade school find themselves chased by one death after another as they celebrate the days leading up to the weddings of two of their group. But their friendships aren't as close as they'd to pretend after years of slights, growing up, and growing apart, and things get tense as the secrets start piling up and boiling over.

Some friendships should just be left to fade into good memories, but the women in this book have more than just the years of friendship bringing them together. And while it does not make for good relationships, it definitely makes for riveting reading. There were moments when I really disd a particular character but then understood her feelings and d her again, only for them to then do something else that was truly awful. It makes it so that you can't truly trust any of the women while also wanting all of them to make it to the end.

Kudos to Weston for keeping me guessing all the way to the end and a truly brilliant red herring that had me completely fooled. It's not often a mystery manages to keep me guessing and I honestly did not expect the ending to this one.

My one complaint is that the description and some of the kept saying how funny it is and I honestly didn't think it was funny. It's interesting and emotional, but not something to pick up if you're looking for a laugh.

If you mystery , murder , very unable characters , hen party's , drama , did I mention murder ?? oh and vaginal beads then this is a story for you!!

This story starts of with Tansy's bridal party where there is no cell service, no drinking and nobody wants to follow the rules ... and the night ends with blood on their hands ,the bride to be Tansy is dead !!!

Based between two timelines the story jumps between present and past . We find these woman who call themselves bestfriends Tansy , Dominque , Farah , Lauren and Saskia are all a bunch of hot mess's that can't seem to tell the truth and ALL have dirty little secrets .

AS the story goes on there is talk of penis straws, vaginal beads , F-bombs and lots of deaths , with a long cat and mouse chase leaving the reader to solve the mystery behind all these deaths .

The story is sarcastic , crude and witty and the author did a great job of keeping me engaged, although I did have my speculations half through who was potentially behind it all , I still wanted to see how the story ended .

Friends on a hen party. What an earth could go wrong. It's just all about having fun, isn't it.
I'd go with a humours thriller. It's not dark, its more of a mystery.

The Blurb

Not all hens went to the party to have a good time.

Lauren, Saskia, Dominica, Farah and Tansy have been friends since nursery. They wonder if that was the last time they all actually d each other.

Reunited as bridesmaids at Tansy's spiritual hen party in the woods, it doesn't take long before old grudges begin to surface. Not to mention the secret they've been hiding for twenty years.

But what starts as a weekend of macramé and penis straws ends in murder when Tansy chokes to death on a poisoned cacao.

And as the body count keeps climbing, the friends realise that one of their group must be the killer - and they need to watch their backs.

My views.

It was good, not superb but certainly good. It felt different yet enjoyable. Occasionally a couple of characters got on my nerves, but I think that was the intention.
A wedding/Hen weekend theme for this book. The girls were once upon a time best friends, but I don't think this friendship has transpired into adulthood. I'm not to sure I'd them as my friends.
When things start to go wrong at a hen party, the blame is thrown around. The mystery starts to unravel.
A good and sometimes fun read. I have not read anything from this author before, but would look out for her work again. 1 Megan O'Donnell150 2

2.75 stars

This had the trappings of something that should work- at her hen do (bachelorette party), Tansy von Weller drops dead, with the only suspects being her bridesmaids who all have motives to kill her. All of them are absolute messes, as is perfect for a thriller, and have their lifelong friendship tied together by a ~mysterious event~ from their past. As more bodies start dropping, the list of suspects continues to dwindle, and secrets start to come out to play. The mystery aspect of this was great and interesting!!

What really did not work for me here was the writing. It was some kind of omniscient narrator where we got everyone's POVs all the time. In one page alone, we could be tapping into the thoughts of 3 different characters- which was way too much to try to keep together. This really distracted me and made it take longer to read the book, as I was trying to keep track of who was who and what they were thinking and why because it was all muddled together.

Okay, so picture this: a wedding-themed thriller that's a wild rollercoaster ride through friendship, jealousy, and murder. That's "You May Now Kill the Bride" for you.

These besties have known each other since they were practically in diapers, but now they're all grown up with their own lives and dramas. One is even about to get married. That's until tragedy strikes. A total accident - right? Suddenly, everyone's suspicious, and it's a race against time to solve the mystery before the next wedding-related catastrophe.

There's dark humour, blackmail, betrayal, and enough drama to make telenovelas jealous. Almost.

The pacing gets a bit slow in the second half, and some of the characters could use a bit more depth. I personally would've been so much more connected if I had had a bit more exploration of each character, their deepest feelings. But overall, it's a fun, quick read that'll keep you entertained and sometimes that's all you want in a thriller. This one most definitely delivers on that front.1 Bethany Hall555 13

This book was unexpected but in , a fun way! It follows a group of women (who have been friends since they were kids) who are celebrating one of them getting married. Tansy is the bride, and she dies during her hen party.

Things I loved about this book:
It was told from almost an outsiderÂ’s point of view? Everyone was a suspect imo and I loved that.
The characters were so deliciously flawed.
I loved the random all caps from the characterÂ’s thoughts.
The characters were all relatable - but I felt I truly related to Lauren so much! Being breadcrumbed - ugh!
The situations got more wild as the book went on.
The inflatable penises took me out.
The ending wrapped up nicely.
It was just so fun to read!

You May Now Kill The Bride is a thriller, with the main storyline being linked to the upcoming marriage of Farah. Farah is obsessed with her upcoming big day, and will stop at nothing to make sure she has the perfect wedding.

Farah and her four best friends have known each other since reception at school, and thirty years later they are still embroidered in each others lives. All the women have busy lives - Farah and Tansy are both engaged, Dominica is excelling as a lawyer, Saskia is a perfect Stepford wife, and Lauren is still looking for love.

At Tansys hen do, there is a death amongst the bridal party - leading to a murder investigation. As the friends continue to celebrate their lives, the deaths keep occurring - who is killing all these people and to what end?

We get perspectives from all the characters, as they all wonder who the murderer among them is. Each character is shown to be flawed, jealous, spiteful and bitter in their own way, each with their own agenda to ensure their own success and happiness.

This was a fun, easy and quick read which kept you guessing and entertained throughout.

This was a WILD and fun read! I absolutely hated these friends and their deeply toxic friendship, but the author did a great job of helping us understand each of the main characters and their motivation. Having read the synopsis, I was looking forward to a fun, entertaining murder mystery that would perhaps be a little tongue-in-cheek. Sadly, not for the first time, the end result was far less satisfying than the blurb had led me to hope.

Author, Kate Weston, has previously written young adult (YA) fiction, but has decided to venture into the adult market with "You May Now Kill the Bride". Unfortunately, although this may be a little bit more grown up than YA fiction, it isn't by very much. This is, perhaps, the book equivalent of someone in their late teens or early twenties thinking they have left their puerile adolescence behind, but without realising just how immature their behaviour still is.

Although the women at the centre of the story have been friends since they were very young schoolchildren, they don't actually behave as though they each other very much. In fact, I am sure that element is deliberate on the part of the author. However, nor are any of them in the least bit able from a reader's perspective either - not that it necessarily matters, as I have read plenty of enjoyable books where the protagonists were quite obnoxious and the appeal came from seeing them get their deserved comeuppance. The problem here was that I not only found myself not warming to the characters, but also that they simply didn't interest me.

It didn't help that the humour failed to land with me. To quote a reference to one of the book's protagonists, Dominica, I 'found it lacking in comedic content'. The writer seems to think that it is cool and edgy to litter the dialogue with swear words and references to sexual organs. Used cleverly (and far more sparingly than is the case in this book), there may well be some amusement in this approach, but when it is done so frequently and in such a scattergun fashion, it just becomes as tiresome as watching the famed one-trick pony. There may be readers out there who enjoy this book, but I was just glad to get to the end.

As ever, I would still to convey my thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for supplying an ARC in return for an honest review. It is a pity I was not in a position to pass more favourable comment on this occasion.netgalley1 Taylor M143 15

You May Now Kill the Bride by Kate Weston is a humorous contemporary fiction novel with a dash of murder. The story revolves around 5 friends - Lauren, Saskia, Dominica, Farah, and Tansy - who have been friends forever. Now that one of them is getting married, they get together for a hen do. Unfortunately, the bride turns up dead. And everyone else turns into a suspect. Could one of them have murdered the bride? Who was threatening the bride before the hen do? And what does it have to do with a buried secret from 20 years ago?

Here is a humorous excerpt from Chapter 1:

"When Tansy’s engagement announcement went viral just hours after posting, it made perfect sense for Saskia—as one of Tansy’s oldest and dearest friends—to plan the hen do. Tansy agreed almost immediately, realizing that with Saskia’s elite organizational skills, she was of course the best person for the job. But now that the whole run-up to the wedding is so high-profile, with thousands of watching on, Saskia needs to make sure it remains classy. At least she knows they’re relatively safe in the woods. No internet connection and no alcohol. The perfect scandal-free time. They just have to get there without anyone tagging her in pictures of inflatable penises on Instagram."

Overall, You May Now Kill the Bride is a contemporary fiction novel that will appeal to fans of Pretty Little Liars or Four Aunties and a Wedding. One highlight of this book is that it is laugh-out-loud funny. Another highlight of this book is how the murder plotline keeps things interesting and moves the plot along. If I had to complain about 1 thing, I would say that there were a lot of characters, and I eventually understood who was who, but it was difficult at first. One final highlight of the book is the ending that you'll never see coming! The reveal of the murderer was seriously a surprise. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of contemporary fiction with humor, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in May! 2024-releases Ashley272 9

Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for an advanced copy of You May Now Kill the Bride.

I rated this 4.5 rounded up to 5.

Tansy, Lauren, Dominica, Farah, and Saskia have been friends since they were children, and know everything about each other...including a dark secret. As they got older, the women mostly kept in touch despite growing up and growing apart for various reasons. Then Tansy gets engaged, so they all reunite for her bachelorette weekend. However, when past history resurfaces and Tansy is murdered, they see how far their friendship will go to protect one another when they all become suspects.

If you are a fan of drama, similar to the style of Desperate Housewives, and enjoy highly toxic friendships such as in Jennifer's Body and Sorority Row, then this is definitely for you. I was immediately hooked from chapter one, because these women had so many juicy secrets and catty banter, it was just pure entertainment. This group of women is the definition of "frenemies." Not only are they all toxic in their own way and highly unlikable/highly unreliable, it was so difficult to figure out who was actually the murderer when they all had reasons to snap on each other. Kate Weston wove such an intricate tale among these women, that I was literally in it with no idea how this was going to end. The twists were really good too; slightly predictable, but either way the journey to the conclusion was full of dark humor and tons of red herrings. The book did drag on a bit at some parts, but overall I didn't mind and I never felt I was bored. I always found myself looking forward to being able to read the next chapter. I also wish there was a bit more to the ending, because it did feel a tad abrupt, however the closing line was iconic and I laughed, so I wasn't too upset about it.

This was such a fun book, I enjoyed the dark humor and all the twists. It was absurd and just a nice, fun read. I can't wait to read more from Kate Weston in the future! Chelsea203 2

You May Now Kill the Bride by Kate Weston is a multi-POV thriller following five friends as one of them gets ready for her wedding day. When they go to the bride's hen do, sheÂ’s murdered and the other four friends now have to hold it together as they prepare for another friend's wedding and the body count keeps piling up.

The flashback chapters add context to Tansy (the murdered bride), Farah (the second bride of the group), Lauren, Dominica, and SaskiaÂ’s old friendship and how the women grew apart and yet became closer. All five are terrible, messy women and I love books exploring terrible, messy women. Tansy doesn't pay attention to the feelings of others, Saskia is an opportunist and controlling, Dominica is overbearing when it comes to her opinions, Farah wants the spotlight on her, and Lauren can't let go of her old flame and hides her real feelings.

The character work was the best part as the five are messy, but they're also convinced they are in the right. With Farah, in particular, you can see how years of playing second fiddle to Tansy impact her overzealous attitude towards her wedding and her bridezilla tendencies when there's someone killing people in her vicinity.

Lauren spends a lot of the novel pining over Joss, her ex, who is FarahÂ’s brother and currently in a relationship with an influencer who is also TansyÂ’s friend. LaurenÂ’s insecurities and jealousies are a big part of her arc and I d seeing how honest and raw those insecurities are because it makes Lauren feel more real and empathetic even if I wanted to scream at her to get over a guy who keeps stringing her along.

The novel does switch between POV characters in the middle of scenes, but it doesnÂ’t take long to get a grasp of who the POV character is after a few chapters.

I would recommend this to fans of MSTs with messy female friendships, readers looking for a thriller that is more friendship-driven, and those looking for an MST version of Bridesmaids

In the book You May Now Kill The Bride by Kate Weston we meet five friends who have known each other since the age of four and soon after getting together for Tanzy‘s wedding it doesn’t take long to realize why they haven’t seen each other in years. Oksana Dominica Lauren and Farah wouldn’t leave though tansy is their lifelong friend and they would do anything for her except be honest not screw her over and definitely not talk about her behind her back. Then again that is the same loyalty they have for each other. They’re going to Hiawaska retreat with no alcohol no cell phones and they’re also doing a Health cleanse when they arrive and tansy starts getting threatening messages alluding to the fact they’re going to tell her fiancé about her secret she immediately thinks it was the incident that happened when her and the other women were teens that’s not to say that is her only secret she her other friends have many secrets with and from each other before the retreat is over however Tanzy is dead but she is just going to be the first and as the women try to find out who is doing this. While the story continues there’s another POV from when the girls were little till they get to the “incident“ not to mention all the side plots in it just makes for one crazy laugh out loud book! It seems the better the book is the worst my review comes out and so that should tell you this is an awesome funny LOL LOFMAO book these women are crazy and it is a book I definitely recommend. They’re the kind of nice nasty people that you Kinda sorta still but don’t know why. I thought the author did a great job showing them as children with the kind of personalities that will grow up to be the women they ultimately are. I mean how many times can I say this is a really really good book! I want to thank Random house for my free arc copy via NetGalley. Please forgive any mistakes, as I am blind and dictate my review.an-awesome-read net-gally omg-what-a-book Aja40 1 follower
