Well, at last an historical novel with a heroine who is not an idiot nor described as feisty. I rather d this. No misunderstandings that could be solved by someone being honest, no ridiculous plot twists. No silly sex scenes. Its an easy read with some very able characters in it. 2 s Margaret Watkins3,075 69

This lighthearted romance moves fairly slowly as Miles Rochdale ensures that Lady Laura Pomeroy does not unduly influence his vulnerable and impressionable sister in the ways of the ton, which did so much to destroy his belief in himself and his place in society. However, the more Miles interacts with Laura, the clearer it becomes that she is nothing his previous encounters with the so-called cream of society. Laura has genuine empathy with Miss Susanna Rochdale's plight, having had to face society and its critics at a time when her father inherited his title. Much to Miles' chagrin, he realizes that he has judged Laura incorrectly, especially when he sees his little sister blossoming under her tutelage. From the first, there is a spark between Miles and Laura, but given that he is promised elsewhere and Laura has an unacceptable interest in mathematics, it would seem that neither of them will ever reach the point where they could acknowledge that the feelings they have for one another have substance. The last part of the novel moves at a faster and more interesting pace, bringing a happy conclusion for the couple. I received a copy of this romance as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.1 Lois 46 1 follower

This new book by Julia Justiss, didn't disappoint. She kept the book flowing with twist & turns.
Lady Laura Pomeroy offers to give her shy friend lessons on surviving the season. Her brother, Miles Rochdale; is leery of Lady Laura & thinks she is shallow & silly. He decides to also partake in the lessons, as they progress Laura finds herself attracted to him & enjoys challenging his assumptions.
As a marquess's daughter she knows that trying to impress Miles, is pointless as she'll never be allowed to marry someone in the Banking trade. Although, Lady Laura really loves mathematics. When her ill father's investments fail, using her dowry; but most of the estates cash; she finds they must close their London home. She is now shunned by the ton & any future husbands. She may have to marry a old gentleman & take care of him unless she can re-coop some of the money lost.
Since, Miles has come to care for Lady Laura, he finds a way to reinstate her status. Thus, putting her out of his station again. Will he find a way to have her or will she find a way to be with him? It's a very interesting dilemma. I enjoyed this book very much & you so will you.

A Season of Flirtation is the first in the new series Least ly to Wed. This is a story of finding true love by crossing class divisions. Lady Laura Pomeroy is a darling of the ton but life started as minor gentry until her father unexpectedly became the Marquess of Carmelton. She is in no rush to marry because she fears her husband would stifle her enjoyment of mathematics so she is taking her time and enjoying her season. She agrees to help her new friend, Miss Susanna Rochdale, an heiress of a banker overcome her shyness by learning to flirt and be more confident so that she may ignore the disparaging attitudes of some of the ton. Susanna's brother, Miles Rochdale, is not fond of the ton after a heartbreaking affair with a debutante who toyed with his emotions and wishes his sister would marry someone of their own class. Miles attends the lessons that Lady Laura is giving to his sister, just waiting for her to condescend to his sister so that he may put an end to the lessons but he soon learns that Lady Laura is a sweet, loving person just trying to help. Feelings between Miles and Laura begin to develop but both know that nothing can come of it, that is until Laura's father suffers a financial disaster and Laura realizes that love is what truly matters. This is a beautifully written love story with a range of emotions and some unique secondary characters that aid in the development of the story.

I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher but all thoughts and feelings are my own.1 Alicia142 1 follower

Lady Laura Pomeroy has taken a shy heiress, Susana Rochdale, under her wing to tutor her in the art of flirtation and improve her confidence during the Season. Susana’s brother, banker Miles Rochdale, is jaded from a former failed romantic encounter and doesn’t trust the motives of a lady he’s sees as a flighty, emptyheaded society miss. He joins their lessons to keep watch on Lady Laura and they end up falling for each other over math, plants, and their efforts to aid Susana.

This dragged for me. While there were cute moments, I wasn’t super swept up in the romance. Could have used less time spent on the side plots—the marry rich scheme and some of the flirtation lesson plans were a bit more in depth than I cared for. Didn’t love Miles having an almost-betrothal with another woman that was conveniently resolved at the end with no hard feelings.

Highlights were the playful prime numbers game that Miles eagerly joined after Laura explained it and them bonding over math/investments in general. I see a lot more Lady Scientists than Lady Mathematicians and enjoyed that novel element. I do when a character initially misjudges another and ends up falling for them, as happens here.
