In Bed with the Stablemaster features a delightful romance set during The Virgin and the Rogue, the sixth book in the Rogue Files series.

Vera Wells has no interest in being just another bedmate for stablemaster Rufus Blackthorne. It doesn't matter how attractive Vera finds the man. But when a big storm catches Vera off guard while she's out on the grounds, she's forced to take shelter with Rufus to ride out the storm. Trapped together with only one bed, it becomes impossible to ignore the sparks flying between them.

This was a fun story that follows two of the staff at the Duke of Warrington's estate, the hero of The Duke's Stolen Bride. The events in the story take place towards the beginning of The Virgin and the Rogue and we hear about Charlotte and Kingston's meeting from an outside perspective. I do recommend picking this book up after reading that one as otherwise you won't know who the characters being referenced are.

Vera and Rufus do not get along at the start of this story although the sexual tension between them is off the charts. It's clear their dis of each other is simply to hide their attraction to one another, one of my favorite tropes. There's some great banter between the two as well which I enjoyed. This novella becomes quite steamy after the arrival at the cottage and I thought the scene was well done.

Overall In Bed with the Stablemaster was a fun addition to the series and I would recommend it.historical-romance novella3 s Elaine3,554 88

Short fairytale romance

In Bed with the Stablemaster, Book 6.5 of The Rogue Files, was a short, one chapter-long, love story between Vera Wells, the uke of Warrington's housekeeper's niece, and his stable master, Rufus Blackthorne.
Vera, having lost her mother at the age of 13, went to live with her Aunt Rose, who was the housekeeper at Haverston Hall. At that time, she met Rufus, who was 15 and a groom at that time.
Over the 10 years they had known each other, they had a contentious relationship. She knew him to be a rogue who flirted and chased most of the other housemaids. She was determined to not be one of them.
When she fell into disfavor with her aunt, who was grooming her to become the future housekeeper, her aunt sent her berry picking...normally a chore for a groom or other housemaid. When Rufus tried to tell her there was a storm coming, she refused to heed his warning and went anyway.
Upon the beginning of the storm, Vera became soaked and disgruntled that the stable master had been right...only to see him racing towards her on a horse. They managed to find an empty cottage on the way back and took shelter till the storm passed....and oh did the chemistry and passion fly.
For such an extremely short story, it was still full of angst, drama, and loads of passion. Just because it was a part of the series, I determined to add it to the Keeper for the Shelves collection.keeper-for-the-shelves Amanda639

Although this story is very short (I think it took me about half an hour to read), I really enjoyed it. Sophie Jordan has such an awesome writing style that I didn't even mind how short this story was. I also appreciated how this romance is about the downstairs staff which is a refreshing change. It doesn't hurt that this story was quite steamy. Simply put, this is another great short story from Sophie Jordan. Ruth291

This was a very short story, really no plot. Even though it's not insta love, it kind of feels insta love because as the reader you join the story in the middle and just in time for the two characters to come together. Semi365 4
