Phew!!

My only advice to the readers of The Debt Collector series is to take it slow (which you really can't) and keep breathing (which you really can't) as the novels in this series won't let you do that. Thanks a lot Jon Mills for the wonderful, unputdownable roller coaster ride of a novel.1 Norma3,441 10

"One minute at a time."
Hurricane Danielle is heading for New Orleans as Jack Winchester, one time hit man now trying to go straight, possibly as a P.I., arrives in town and makes a quick visit to the bar where his ex is working. He hadn't seen her for eight years so wasn't surprised that she'd moved on, had someone new in her life. But trouble seems to follow Jack: this time it's not just the FBI but also a Mafia hitman out to get him, and trouble has a way of spreading.

This is the first of the Jack Winchester books that this reader has read. Short, full of action but also tempered with an intriguing cat and mouse story which obviously runs through the series. There's enough characterisation to make the protagonists interesting whatever side they might take. Some suspension of belief is required, but not too much, and it's easy to be swept along with the story.
This works fully as a stand alone, too.

The narration is good, well paced and given with an almost but not quite slick tone which suited the main protagonist well. Adam Gold has a pleasant mid range voice which is easy to enjoy, his intonation is good as is his understanding of the text of the story, reacting to it appropriately where needed. His voicing of all of the characters is also good, distinctive and natural. A fine performance, marred only by a number of undeleted sentences, repeated, which should have been editted out (at least ten in the course of the story), particularly noticible as they are accompanied by a click.

Jack Winchester is an interesting character and having encountered him I am keen to read more, to track back to the earlier books and discover his history. And I will definitely be looking out for his further adventures.2018 action adventure ...more Trish R.1,772 50

Man o’ man! I adore Jack Winchester. He tries so hard to do the right thing, but it never works out for him. He’s always forced to kill one bad guy or another. He had to give up Theresa and Ruby to keep them safe. FBI Agent Isabel Baker appreciated Jack saving her life but that wasn’t going to change the fact that she was going to bring him in. What a gal!

There were so many meth addicts in this book it was crazy. Billy had been out of prison for a week and already at the meth again. I wasn’t surprised he got killed.<?spoiler>

No romance and the F-bomb was used 20 times.

As to the narration: Adam Gold is perfect for narrating this sort of book.

Hard to Kill (for sure!)

I have loved all the books in this series so far. This one was good but not great. Don't get me wrong it had action but there was just something about it that I didn't quite . Maybe it was the irony of Theresa's boyfriend just getting out of jail and being involved with the drug czar of New Orleans. I don't know. Jack didn't seem his usual snarky self. I'm not saying other people wouldn't it. I did give it 4 stars. I just think it needed a little extra snark and less irony. Will be moving on to book 5 right now! Victoria Haugen484 2

Let me start with, this is the first in the series that I've listened to. I'll definitely go back and read/listen to the others now, to make sure I have a good sense of Jack and his past. With that said, I really d it! Love Jack, he's a total bada$$ but with issues, of course. When it rains, it pours! I really d this one, and I'll definitely be reading/listening to more.
Great narration and great story!

Equaliser/Fugitive

I was trying to decide whether Jack is a Reacher or a John Milton, he's obviously a mixture, but there's a difference. This Jack is being pursued by the FBI (and the Mafia). So I've decided he's a blend with a strong spoonful of The Fugitive, the TV series from long ago.
I'm still enjoying the series but as with all these Amazon Kindle publications, they could use an English speaking proof reader. The little errors break the reader's direct connection to the fictional world. Darla C. James118 1 follower

DISAPPOINTING ENTRY

I finished this book with the distinct impression that the author just kind of slammed this book out as fast as he could. I have read the previous books in this series so I definitely had a bit of experience with his ability to put more effort into character development in emotions and actions......and to produce a much better edited copy. I'll read the next in series but if it's as weak as this one, I'll stop there. David Armstrong86

Another Hit

Another really good read. Many times you read a series of books and they begin to lose their edge. Not this one I really rate this book somewhere between 4 &5,but as we all know we can't do this. If you are just starting out reading these books, it truly is worth your while to do so . Jack Winchester is one tough dude and each page makes you want to read the next! RJ2,044 10

Our protagonist Jack Winchester is a former hitman for a New Jersey crime family. Suffering from a potentially fatal case of conscience, Jack offers himself via newspaper ad to people in trouble; at the end of their rope. I’ve seen this plot line or similar before; Jack Reacher travels a similar path. The story is not bad although there is not much background as this is volume four. References were made to earlier people and situations, but the tale could stand on its own. Three.point.five for longevity. Gathering Momentum

Certainly got the heart pumping!

Loving the way the story is evolving and Jack's ability to be conscious of his acts before carrying them out.

There is an ounce of decency in him! Just a shame his go to method of work is murder, murder, murder!

Onto the next
