Love this series.. And each book gets better and better...humor is included as the norm but tears are new...encourage all to read to find out why the tears ...

The mystery felt an 8 book lead up and pay off but in a sad way.
Still seems Jimmy hasn't grown up and the world is treating him as such.1 Sibil1,490 68

Thanks to NetGalley and to the Editor. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

So, when I request this book I didn't know this was the 8th book in the series, but once I started reading this didn't matter at all. Sure, I don't really know what happened before, and hence all the mention of things that happened in other books were all news to me, but you don't need them to understand what is happening in there and to enjoy the story. Sure, since I really enjoyed this one, I will read the previous books, because I want more, but I enjoyed the book all the same.
And this is quite an enjoyable book. The MC, Jimmy, is not your usual Master Vampire, and yet he is great at it (okay, he is not perfect, he has to grow into this role, sure, but hey! He just needs a bit more time!). And all the other characters are pretty interesting too. And I want to see more of them around.
And I loved Jimmy sense of humor. It is right up my alley, and I had a really good time with this book! readtoreview1 Daniel T.736 2 Read

Another Great Tale!

Anyone who has not read John Hartness books, do yourself a tremendous favor and begin. For those familiar with his books you know what to expect. Excellent writing, snarky dialogue fast paced action. Jimmy has to grow up, as he is repeatedly told in the book he sucks as Master of the City. But now with a new serial killer on the loose that's something he can't avoid. Good story that will keep you engrossed , fun reading.1 Christopher Babick257

Wow!

As usual, this was an exciting book. The characters familiar. The drama was intense. I'm looking forward to the next chapter in The Chronicles of the Black Knight.1 Anne1,266 61

I was looking for a light, fun UF read after reading a lot of mysteries. There's also a mystery in this book, who is the lady in black? The book wasn't as light or fun as I recall some of the earlier ones in this series (it's been a while since I've read one). However, you're not going to finish the book horribly depressed.

The blurb for the book pretty much spells out what to expect with his usual cast of friends popping up to assist.

The previous books have kind of being heading towards what finally begins here, Jimmy is truly realizing he is failing at being the Master of the City and has to start re-evaluating his path from here. I hope the next book follows through because I think it would be very interesting.

Be warned... you will have feels.

One of the things I love about Jimmy Black is he's still learning. He really doesn't want to be The Master of the City but who else can he trust to do it right... this chapter in the ongoing story will make you cry (be warned). That I want to read it again, even though it made me cry is why you should read this.

Hartness' take on Vampires, and the Supernatural community as a whole, is strangely refreshing. The gravitas with how being an immortal creature with very mortal roots invites you to think outside the story.

The gangs all here... Mary Schanbacher5
