Mayla is a newly single woman in her 30s living in present day Germany, and self-proclaimed chocolate addict. After her relationship of 4 years abruptly ends, Mayla vows to focus on and excel in her marketing career. Strange and unexpected things begin to happen to Mayla and she ultimately discovers that she is a witch. Relying on a warlock police detective and an outcast banned from his coven, she doesn't know who she can trust to navigate this new magical community she is now apart of. This is a fun and charming feel good story with a lot of action and plot building!

I really find concept of this book intriguing. Being a woman over 30, it is nice to have an FMC that is more relatable. Witches, animal familiars, romance, and elemental magic are all things I really enjoy reading about.

I wish I loved this book. I really wanted to love this book! I believe the target audience are adult readers, however, the writing feels more something I would find in a young readers novel. Character development and dialog left me begging for more. I believe it was originally written in German and translated to English. If that is the case, the translation impaired what I'm sure is a complex, and well developed story. The constant inner questioning of Mayla with seldom any answers was vexing. I'm sure this was done in order to try and give some insight into her thought processes, unfortunately, it just made it hard to read.

Honestly, it is an interesting story with a well developed plot and setting, and tries to keep the reader engaged. I believe a lot of people will enjoy it! The writing style is just not for me and I think the translation did it a disservice.

Another world
