This is a great short story about shifters playing professional sports. I wanted to read more when the book ended. Burke and Kendall decide to have a fake relationship so her family will get off her back about dating again since she had a failed marriage with one professional sports shifter and has no dire to date another professional athlete. Burke agrees because he doesn’t want to be chased by fans and worries about having a girlfriend when he has planned his future out. He wants to settle down in Canada when he done playing hockey and raise a family there and teach at a school. What could go wrong since you both agree to pretend to be in a relationship and until Burke time as a professional hockey team ends. Kendall is the butt of most jokes due to her failed marriage that didn’t last long, and no one know the true because she didn’t want anyone in trouble for beating or killing her ex-husband. Burke and Kendall have real feeling for each other but know there is an end date to this fake relationship, and it won’t work out how does a polar bear handle the heat when he use to the cold in Canada. A cougar shifter prefers the heat and not the cold. Burke or Kendall would not dare ask the other to move for the other when they have the future planned out and they want to live in different places. You need to get this book and read to find out what happens with Burke and Kendall relationship. You will not be disappointed. I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review. Great start to the series

I loved Burke and Kendall’s fated mates, shifters, fake relationship hockey romance. t is a heartwarming, funny, and steamy tale with a good mix of humor, swoony love, past baggage, messy families, and spice. Burke and Kendall are portrayed as real, relatable people who have flaws, but are really just trying to do their best as messy humans. Burke is a growly cinnamon roll polar bear shifter who is the team captain of an all shifter professional hockey team. Prior to becoming a professional hockey player, he was a high school chemistry teacher and hockey coach. Kendall is a sweet cougar shifter who teaches first grade in a shifter school and is the sister of the coach of the hockey team. While she’s sweet, she also hides her real self behind her cheerleader persona. For different reasons, neither Burke nor Kendall is interested in dating. To avoid meddling matchmakers, they agree to pretend to date. Of course, feelings rarely stay in the boxes we try to keep them in. As they spend time together, the feelings begin to deepen and grow despite their insistence the relationship is only casual and could not work out long term. The slightly twisty path to their HEA was an enjoyable and mildly angsty journey. This debut novel was well written with three dimensional characters and an engaging storyline. It was a bit slow to start and the number of side characters felt a bit overwhelming at times but overall, a fairly solid 4 star read. I am excited to read the next book in the series and to see the author’s continued growth. Joyffree3,184 57

Just an all-around fun read perfect for getting lost

I fell in love with Burke the moment I met him
Kendall didn't have a chance

Burke is beyond swoon-worthy
The whole "I licked him he's mine" is warranted with him
Come on - He's a polar bear!!!
Big. Warm. Cuddly. Safe. Home.
He came looking for a hockey career, not a mate
But Kendall walking away?
That did things to him

Kendall's last relationship, with the squirrel, didn't end well
She was a bit paw-shy now and the last thing she was interested in, or so she thought, was a hunky-hulking polar bear who was twice the size of her cougar
But she was at the point she would do anything to get her family off her back
Even pretend to be in love with the above-mentioned hunky-hulking polar bear

What's not to love abut this shifter romance! Ice Hockey player, buff, good looking and a polar bear shifter! When Kendall meets Burke, she decides, yes he is good looking and no, she is not looking for another relationship. But that does not stop her deciding that yes she is happy to do the Fake relationship thing with him, so that her family leaves her alone, when all they want is to see her settled and happy.
Burke, a polar bear shifter only wants to play Ice Hockey, earn some decent money and return to Canada. Their relationship, is doomed from the start, fake or not! Kendall has her secrets and is not willing to share especially with her family and definitely not with Burke!
Loved the slow burn attached to this story, Burke makes you swoon way too many times and who wouldn't want Burke as their fake boyfriend? He also s having Kendall looking at him she loves him, but it is all fake right?
A well written story that has you gunning for these guys from to get their HEA. Totally worthy of 5 stars. Mrs R1,112 11

Opposites attract shifter hockey standalone romance.
Burke was a super sweet polar bear shifter, wanting to live out his childhood dream, make some money, and return home to settle down. Kendall was swearing off relationships after a recent divorce and didn't want to leave her home.

These two have an instant attraction, but try to stay away from each other, but really couldn't. They form a fake relationship (with benefits) but it doesn't take long to realise they are great together - but neither wants to make a permanent move.

This was a standalone, although I think it may lead to a series as there were loads of potential characters. It did have the feel of an established series as there were several teammates mentioned. It did take me a while to start to get names straight in my head, and quite a few were related in some way - I'm not sure I fully remembered who was who as different characters called each other by different names.
