Sinopsis

From USA Today Bestselling author Jennifer Fischetto comes a hauntingly humorous new series...
Gianna Mancini has chatted with ghosts most of her life. It's never affected her much. Until now.

The latest ghost in Gianna's family-centric, boy-complicated, job-depleted world is Emma Tinsdale, a woman Gianna despises. Wanting Emma out of her apartment and her orbit, Gianna chooses to help her move on, but she doesn't expect to come across poisonous jam, a vengeful cop, or a group of friendly clowns.

When a relative is framed for Emma's death, Gianna must dig deeper and faster to find out what really happened that fatal night on the beach. With help from her sister, her cop brother, and her ex-boyfriend, Julian, she gets close to figuring out the truth. But when the killer closes in, Gianna better watch her step unless she wants to become the latest member of the dearly departed.

I d this story so much, I am going to continue with the rest of the books in her series. fantasy-paranormal mystery-cozy2 s Stuart Macmartin679 4

There was lots to about this book. I might even read more. But the ending depends on an insensitive stereotyping, and the author tries to use the concept of grey (vs. black and white) as an excuse for the main character to condone an action that should have been a line that isn’t crossed, for her: I didn’t believe it. I also don’t get some of her other behaviour, so maybe she’s not as protective of her family as the rest of the book proclaims. On the positive side, I was mostly engaged through the book, and I did enjoy some of the humour and twists on cliches. I might give the next book a try if I run out of things to read.i-see-dead-people read-in-20182 s Lauren1,379 25

Dollycas’s Thoughts

I absolutely, positively, loved this book!!

Gianna has a very unique gift as does her family’s deli. Gianna’s gift is that she can see and talk to ghosts, to find out the deli’s special “gift” you have to read the book.

Gianna has come back home and moved into the small apartment above the deli. She is surprised to learn she already has a spirit as a roommate, but it is better than staying with her parents. Her sister and niece have moved home due to some trouble with her husband and that makes things at home just a little too crowded. She still hangs out with her sister though. In fact, they had a girl’s night out that included quite a bit of drama and ended up with them asleep on the beach. When they woke up and headed home they thought their only problem was a little sand in their clothes. Then a body is found on that very same beach not far from where they slept and the victim happens to been part of the drama the night before. The victim’s ghost also finds their way to Gianna’s apartment and has no idea who killed them. When the police start to suspect someone very close to Gianna she has no choice but to unofficially help point the police, including her own cop brother, in another direction. It may also help a ghost or two move on and let her finally have her apartment to herself.

This was a fantastic read. It was funny in many places but also had many places that touched my heart.

All the characters were so well developed, even those than only Gianna could see. We get to know them all so well it is very easy to be invested into each and every one of them. Gianna is complicated as is her relationship with her ex. Her family is close, sometimes too close, but isn’t that how most families are. What Gianna does for these ghosts that just happen to find their way to her is amazing – finding out what is holding them back from crossing over and trying to help them make that very necessary transition. A gift that causes her to have some very haunting dreams.

As to the mystery surrounding the killer that is very complex as well with several twists and turns and a surprise. Oh my when I figured out just a few pages before Gianna I almost shouted it out loud. I love stories that surprise me this one.

This book is shorter than the normal cozy mystery but the story was not lacking anywhere, in fact it soared beyond my expectations. And if this story wasn’t amazing on its own the author leaves us with a cliffhanger that has me waiting very impatiently for the next installment. I will drop whatever I am reading the minute it becomes available to read it!

I know it is early in the year but this is an outstanding debut to this series and for that reason it gets my first paradise rating of 2015.

My favorite books so far by Jennifer Fischetto! I wasn't too sure when I saw the title but I usually love GHP books so I had to give it a try. I the premise and love both the plot line and the characters including the ghosts. I look forward to more of this series. The story is filled with family, fun, and emotions as well as ghosts and murder. I forgot to write the review back when I read it so this is an especially sloppy one.

Lipstick, Lies & Dead Guys

This was a decent but not amazing cozy mystery. Some of the dialogue was rough and the mystery was simple and maybe a little problematic. I didn't have serious issues with the big reveal, but some people may see it as insensitive. I felt the matter was addressed well enough though.cozy-mystery own-on-my-kindle1 VickyAuthor 22 books55

“I See Dead People”

Gianni can see ghosts. Which can be both fortunate and unfortunate. In this one, there are two in her apartment — Billy and Emma. Billy is a nineteen year old who died from alcohol poisoning. He’s waiting for something, but he’s not sure what. Meanwhile, he’s having fun turning the TV on and off and other assorted shenanigans. Emma was recently murdered and the police pin the murder on Gianni’s sister Izzy. Unfortunately, Emma can’t remember who killed her or what happened that night—except for the “fun” she was having with Izzy’s husband.

Gianni has to sort through all sorts of suspects and lies before she gets to the truth—getting nearly killed herself. Then there’s the evil ghost who comes through to haunt her. And a crooked cop who has a history of Gianni.

This was a fun read with lots of twists and turns and a definite thread hanging for the next book in the series. But at least Emma’s murder gets solved.

Good fun cosy mystery. I d Gianna and how she can talk to ghosts. I loved the family interaction too - how they scare each other, the mum's murder souvenirs hobby room. Loved the ghosts protecting her from sleazy police detective too. The thing that let it down for me was the love interest. I would have been ok with them getting back together except for what Gianna finds out after (re his actions and the consequences for Izzie - that it was just a big fat no). What he did was not ok and i have a real problem with Gianna accepting that. Didnt the 'Izzie is partially responsible for the cheating' vibe woven through the story either. You commit to a person you dont engage in sex acts with someone else. Full stop. If you are going thru a rocky patch you work at it. If you dont want to work at it or you tried and its not working out you leave.

Cute story

Great summer beach read. Lots of fun with a protagonist who can talk to ghosts. Her family knows, and only a few select others, but some of those, she'd just as soon not know. One, in particular, brings more grief than the others, and that is Kevin, a co-worker of her police brother. He has it in for Gianna, so much so, she's afraid to be around him. In this story, her sister, Izzy, is falsely accused of the murder t a young woman whom Izzy caught giving a BY to Macy's husband.

With the help of two ghosts, one being the ghost of the murderer woman, Gianna sets out to clear her sister's name. There are twists and turns and clowns. Yes, clowns! I

Settle in for a paranormal mystery that will leave you wanting more. Linda1,250

Nice little twist

To clear her sister from going to jail for murder, Gianna uses her gift of seeing ghosts to find the real killer. It's a little hard when the murder victim is the woman responsible for her sister being accused in the first place. When the police don't bother to look further than Izzie, Gianna with the help of Emma and her brother Enzo start looking into all of the potential suspects. From her co-workers to the wives of the men she had affairs with, it takes some time and a bit of risk before Gianna eventually figures out who the killer, but not before she finds herself smack dab in the middle of trying to stay alive and proving to the police she got the right guy.

I really d Gianna, her family and her ghostly companions. Darcysmom1,471

Gianna Mancini has been able to talk to ghosts for most of her life, which has been no big deal until now. Now she has Billy and Emma camped out in her apartment, with no signs of crossing over anytime soon.
Gianna also has a large, stereotypically Italian, family who are super involved in her life; an ex who may not stay an ex; and a murder to solve. Fortunately, she has all the help she can handle. But will it be enough to keep her sister out of jail?
This was a really fun book. Gianna and her whole family are homey and loud and remind me of the things I love best about my family. The mystery was good and kept me guessing. I am ready to jump into book two! Thomas1,542 33

Gianna Mancini can see dead people, she has been able to see them since an accident when she was a child. After having her feeling hurt by her live in boyfriend, Gianna moves back home to be near her family. While going for a girls night out with her sister, they find her sisters husband in a compromising position. the only problem is after Izzy beats the mess out of her husbands truck, Emma, the woman caught in the truck has been killed with that same bat.

This was a fun and well written story with lots of humor thrown in and well developed characters. I read this one because I am a big fan of Jennifer's Jaime Bond mysteries. Donna1,604 26

Cover/Title: The cover and title are both fun. They drew me in instantly.

Characters: I love the ghosts. Gianna and her family seem a fun bunch always trying to scare each other. I really enjoyed reading about their antics.

Plot: The story was interesting. The mystery was not super easy to figure out. Of course, when it is all revealed, the reader is definitely surprised.

Overall: I really enjoyed this book. I loved the references to Pennywise from Stephen King's IT. Even though the MC only smirked, I couldn't help but laugh. It was truly funny. I will definitely be reading more of this series. 2018challenge cutthroatbookclub2018 jan2018tbr Sharkie453

I was really, really enjoying this book. 5 stars enjoying.

And then.....

The main villain ended up being transgendered. And that was the main reason she had killed someone.

Whether this was done in a way meant to be a positive light, or inclusion, it came across as dissing in trans people and I was not here for it. The rest of the book was good, fun, and enjoyable, but that fact kicked it down a star for me.

If she had been trans and had a different reason for killing, that would've been great! But having her gender be the big reason just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Maybe I'm wrong in my thoughts, but meh. Not a good look in my view. This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.Show full review Trudi Jorda937 6

This book has it all- murder, mystery, a girl who can see and talk to dead people, romance you name it. It was initially hard to sort out the cast of characters, an Italian family with parents, who have a son in the police force, a daughter who works in the deli they own and lives in the apartment above the deli they own and another daughter who catches her husband cheating on her in their truck, the woman giving him a blow job in the truck is dressed and made up as a clown and the clown winds up dead on the beach and the daughter is accused of murder. It takes a few ghosts, the sister that talks to ghosts and a cast of characters to solve the murder and have justice just in time!fantasy humor mystery ...more Tess Ailshire648 4

Not bad for the genre.

I love to read these cozy mystery stories, particularly the ones with lovable, quirky main characters, and this is a good example of that. The problem is they often fall flat, either in character development or in plot details. This one hurts badly in character development. Poor Julian - we never do learn (perhaps later we do, but I probably won't be reading them) whether he's a good guy or not. We know nothing about him despite his several appearances in the book.

At the end of my ebook copy of this one, there were a few pages of #2. Izzy sure goes from "just pregnant" to waddling in the space of a week. And there were a few mistakes of word choice in #1 that make me think Fischetto could benefit from a good editor - one who could copy-edit and point out inconsistencies.

Still, the book was amusing and a fun read. Kiki Z1,058 53

--Not convinced I who the hero is shaping up to be.

--I kind of feel the whole secondary plot with Billy the ghost was unnecessary. It seemed it was shoved in and solved only when the author remembered that was still a thing.

--I don't that the murderer was a transgender person. People do that way too often, conflating trans-ness with instability. There were a million ways it could have ended without murder. Peg374 1 follower

Enjoyed reading this book

Gianna sees and talks to ghosts. Enzo, her brother, is a cop. Izzie is her sister. The story is pretty good, it did have me second guessing myself on who murdered the clown. Finding out what Julian's real job was a shock. The characters in this book had me laughing. I recommend reading this book. I couldn't put it down.fischetto-jennifer Cynthia Evans72

Ghosts and more

Loved this book. Good clean read, refreshing for a change. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I really don't reading graphic sexual details. I will if the book is really good, but it's uncomfortable. Lots of humor and I never figured it out till close to the end. Recommended reading from me. Can't wait for the next one. Mary Barna135

She sees dead people.

Gianna Mancini has a secret. Since she fell and hit her head as a child, she sees dead people. Oh, and there's a portal to the afterlife in the freezer of her family's deli.

She lives in an apartment above the deli, so she sometimes gets an uninvited guest or two.

This book is a fun start to a series that I hope to read more of. Brandy Barber920 20

Very cute read. A bit on the creepy murder family side but in a fun way. d the characters and how the story flowed. Was able to finish in about 3 days. The description of the book is pretty right on. I look forward to reading the next book. Nancy Phy314 6

Great read

This is the first book I’ve read by this author....it won’t be the last. The dialogue (both internal and external) was oftentimes snappy and funny. Included a really unexpected plot twist but with loose ends tied up by the end of the story. Look forward to reading more! Debbie Bishop37
