Sigh! I don’t know what captivated me more about this book: the twisty mystery that kept me guessing, the snarky humor that made me smile, or the big emotions that took me on a rollercoaster ride. It’s clear to all of us on the outside that Maverick and Hensley were made for each other. But they’re both carrying some deep wounds from past relationships that make them hesitant to trust or even want to try loving again. And some of those wounds line up a little too perfectly, to the point that they’re able to effortlessly hurt one another. However, the spark pulling them together is something special and rare, and I loved seeing them fight their way to their Happy Ever After.

This book opens with Maverick Snow standing on their dock on Lake George. He's gazing at the stars and reflecting on the things that brought him here. He's also thinking about Hendley Patterson, a woman he can't seem to get out of his mind since they met.

Behind him The Blue Moon bar he owns with his brothers is packed with revelers enjoying the end of summer celebration they've made an annual event. His brother Phoenix joins him, and he shares he received an unusual phone call. His ex-wife was coming to town for a new job and wanted to meet up for dinner or a drink. While he's definitely over her, he does feel he owes her an apology for some of the things he said in anger.

Almost as if his thoughts conjured her, their server Veronica tells them Hendley wants to speak with them, but she also needs someone to help her with an unruly patron at the bar. Phoenix goes to handle the man at the bar leaving Maverick to talk to Hendley.

Hendley was once a top professional tennis player and when an injury took her out of the game, she spent some time teaching. Now she's a private detective who's always armed, dresses in designer clothes and yet is a bit rough around the edges.

Hendley wants to put up flyers regarding a missing person. The problem is it's not official. Her good friend was on her way here for some R&R and no one was to know she was here. They were supposed to meet two hours ago and never showed and calls to her go direct to voicemail.

Lara Benson is a popular country singer and was born here in Lake George. Hendley and her were best friends since they were the different ones. Lara the singer and Hendley the tennis player. The text she sent Hendley showed she was worried about something that could hurt not only the town but her personally.

Maverick suggests a different course of action and they set some things in motion.

The next day they start at Lara's father's home. He isn't there, so they start thinking about where he could be. Hendley shares she never thought it a good idea to stay with her father, but Lara wanted to be close to him. Back at the Blue Moon they discuss where Hendley was going next while she grabs a breakfast sandwich. This leads to Maverick escorting her to her car and a single scorching kiss which his parents witness and later tease him about.

They get a text from her bodyguard/boyfriend, that he's on his way to Lake George and wants to meet up. This meeting would shed light on at least part of the reason why Lara might disappear.

All this leads to more questions without answers and still no clues as to Lara's whereabouts although we learn much about her relationship with her bodyguard Brent.

The relationship between Maverick and Hendley's progresses slowly but surely as this tale unfolds.

This story took a while for me to get into, but the twists and turns made it very interesting to read. So many secrets are keeping people in turmoil. Personal secrets, family, friends, land deals. It is up to Maverik and Hensley to not only find Hensley's missing friend, but save the Blue Moon from others. Add to that each have their own secrets that they must share with each other before they have a chance and a long term relationship. A little added bonus for the couple at the end of the story. We get to see them open up to each other whilst also learning to rely on each other as they try to unravel not only where her friend is but also what could tear the town apart and how it is all connected.
