Sinopsis

CATALÀ:Fa anys vaig fer un primer intent de llegir el llibre, però vaig veure que no era el moment i el vaig deixar aparcat. Ara, després de la decepció de Consumits pel foc, vaig voler reconciliar-me amb Cabré i lhe tornat a agafar. Em resulta difícil fer una ressenya daquest llibre perquè, tot i que mha agradat, no sabria ben bé dir el perquè. És un tros de llibre en tots els aspectes. Sutilitzen molts recursos literaris, el llenguatge és ric, lautor domina la trama i els personatges, es troben moltes referències literàries, artístiques, i històriques. Tot això mal barrejat podria seu un caos, però amb lús que en fa Cabré és un llibre que et fa gaudir.Aquesta no és una lectura lineal. Trobem salts en el temps, a vegades, dins una mateixa frase. Lautor juga amb els personatges, les èpoques i els llocs. Cal estar concentrat per llegir el llibre, però no mha semblat una lectura densa.Llegint les memòries de lAdrià Ardèvol, un erudit de les llengües i virtuós del violí, trobem algunes històries paral·leles que conflueixen i ens apropen a la part més maligna de la història de la humanitat.Si voleu gaudir amb Cabré, i no lheu llegit ja, aquest és el vostre llibre.Coincidiu amb mi? I have been reading this book and I have been loving it from the first page. I have been reading it slowly, patiently, absorbing its magic, absorbing its art. It's a book that I did not want it to end. This beauty here now belongs to my all time favorites and in the future it will belong to the classics, to the miracles. I don't know how Cabré did this, i don't know how he made it happen, but i know, for sure, that i am forever grateful. Me gustó mucho la novela. Más de 900 páginas que me dejaron con más ganas de seguir otras tantas junto a los personajes que la pueblan.

El estilo es claro, sencillo; la estructura es algo más complicada. En un mismo párrafo, hasta en una misma línea, se pasa de una narración en primera persona a otra en tercera, de un personaje a otro, de una historia a otra, y, por si esto fuera poco, las narraciones intercaladas no son lineales, van a saltos, incluso se mezclan tiempos en un mismo hilo narrativo. Y todo funciona a las mil maravillas.

Las aventuras que protagonizan un violín, por un lado, y una medalla, por el otro, vertebran un relato lleno de relatos. Hay una gran historia de amor y una gran historia de amistad. También se habla del mal, de la culpa y el perdón y la venganza, la infamia, la vanidad, el egoísmo, el fanatismo, del arte con mayúsculas y del arte con minúscula, de los artistas y de los que pretenden serlo sin capacidad para ello. Y todo confluye en una persona, el protagonista, el narrador y el narrado, como en una tela de araña con infinitos hilos comunicados que van a condicionar su vida por completo.109 s Chris_P384 324

I must be on a streak of mind-blowingly good novels recently.I can't even begin to describe what the book is about let alone how it is written. Imagine 4 characters, 2 languages, three different ways of narrating (1st person, 3rd person, memoirs)all seamlessly presented on one page. Dialogues intertwine with no clear identification who is speaking or which of many many stories they pertain to. Sounds complex and it definitely is. Multiple plotlines and drastic changes of scenery and characters with no visible breaks in the wall of text in theory should make this novel an incomprehensible artistic experiment but somehow the flow and the pacing guide you through those streams of thoughts.

THe first half is very demanding and might be off-putting for many. I don't blame them but I've never seen such poetic craftsmanship as the one presented by Cabre. The second half is where it all comes together. Slowly, with no haste while at the same time dazzling the reader with another clever twists and stylistic surprises.

On top of that it's a genuinely moving and interesting story encompassing multiple generations. There's also one theme that becomes apparent at the very end that I personally hold dear and always find hard to read through because it affects me so profoundly.
