Sinopsis

It should have been just another day and another tournament. The tournament where our name would be immortalized forever more! Surely, nothing could ever go right when I'm involved. A freak accident leaves Scarlet and myself stranded in Hazard Online, the one game we loved as much as life. Oh how quickly that changed.

Pushed to the brink of our sanity, we awaken with the knowledge of our death and become little more than guinea pigs, thrust into an experimental expansion where death means so much more. Our only allies are two young women who know much more than they're letting on and an A.I. Overmind who offers us a deal. Perhaps it would have been better to let some secrets stay hidden before the only way to survive becomes the sacrifice of what little made us human. In the end, would lose your humanity in such a place be even a bad thing?

Warning: This book contains explicit sex, many expletives, crazy amounts of violence, and badass women. Read at your own risk, or pleasure :D

Good read but...

While I did enjoy the book and had no issue with the all the action. It was a bit too negative at times. I would have d to see deeper character development. It felt the characters jumped from scene to scene. I will read the next book but if it is this one , I would have to this k very hard about continuing the series.1 Craig Willis42 4

An interesting world, but populated with only broken characters.

While I finished this story, I found it quite a difficult read. Every female character in the book is broken and messed up, almost every male is just as bad. The MC is basically raped within a the first few chapters, and literally raped after that.

Things do get better at the very end of the story, with so characters toning down their issues a little, but it's such a dark set of people the book focus on that I really had to force myself through a few chapters. I do understand that some of the issues the characters are facing are explained in the story, but it did feel a bit much.

However, the world is interesting and detailed, I enjoyed the combat and descriptions, and the opening battle really sells the world and the game, I found myself quite drawn in with the intrigue.

I will probably read the second to find out more about what is actually happening behind the scenes.

All in all I did finish the book, and did enjoy quite a bit of it. If you can get past the dark and broken people surrounding the MC, then there is an interesting story under it. Sean135

Definitely not what I was expecting. It was written in the Russian style of gamelit novels, with less crunchiness than most. The character's emotions were completely wild and bipolar, but it was actually realistic for people who had just died and ended up in their situation. The MC got everything handed to him on a silver platter, but that was what tipped him off to the experiments the big baddies were doing to him. The plot was good and since we only lived about 3 days in the book it was more about emotional reckoning than moving through to a goal. Once I understood what the MC was going through I thought that his actions and his friends actions lined up with what could be expected, but each of these people is extremely flawed so don't expect societal norms. This book also has a lot of happytimes explicitness so don't read it unless you're ok with adult situations.gamelit Drew185 3

Enjoyable

I did enjoy this book but there are a few grammatical errors which are frustrating and a good editor/proofreading may have spotted.

Interesting premise and there seems to be a good plot e developing so will continue to read. There is a strong adult element which is fine but seems a wee bit jumbled at times.....maybe the proofreader was overwhelmed
