I won this book in a goodreads drawing.

Several presidents have had embarrassing, trouble making brothers, the president in this universe has his own, an "anti-authoritarian" documentary film maker. He gets captured by a cartel in Colombia, after seeing something he shouldn't.

The President launches a rescue mission, and goes to Colombia himself, to give the mission some cover. Things go wrong, of course, but Nick and Tommy Bracco have to straighten things out.

Pretty decent. A little different than most Men's Adventure series.firstreads men-s-adventure4 s Kathi Defranc1,183 477

Another excellent mystery in this series about Nick Bracco, his partner Matt and the world of terrorists who will keep coming after this country in many varied ways. The characters continue to grow, and keep you turning the page to see what happens to them next. Every new person is given life in this series, the author is very good at embellishing so that you feel you know exactly who each person is and why they do what they do. A thoroughly entertaining book which will stand by itself, even if you have not read any others in the series. But I hope you will read them all,and will come, me,to wait for the next!2 s Nancy1,196

Just as good as the others in the series. I have to confess, I checked the ending because I couldn't take the tension. I mean, I was sure it would all work out, but I had to BE sure, lol. 2 s Tiffany Hannick628 7

Hard to put down

This book is full of action and suspense. You will be drawn into the story and invested in what will happen next. Nick and his partner Matt along with others work hard to figure out how to save the day even when there seems to be a lot working against them. 1 Paula Cox226 4

Good read. Very action packed and emotional. Would definitely recommend. I could not put it down.

I'm glad to be giving this a five-star rating after the last one just got a four from me. This really did have me turning pages. Gary has returned to the story-writing level of the 1st book in the series.

Saying that, there are spoilers in every book with reference to the previous stories, so be careful to not read them in a different order as there are so many references that, sometimes, you'll know the end before you get there.

This one is especially enjoyable for all fans of Tommy! Can't wait to get into the next one!1 Suzann79 7

Great book!

This was my first book by this author. I loved it! I have been so busy with working and the holidays but has a hard time putting it down. The action/suspense was perfect. It had a very realistic plot touching on the realistic issues with those that protect our country. I will definitely be reading more by this author. I highly recommend!!! I believe I am supposed to let you know that I received this book as part of a goodreads giveaway.... I’m glad I was chosen... I found a new author I may not have otherwise been exposed to. You definitely will not be disappointed. I encourage you to read this book! It was wonderfully entertaining and engaging!! Ben1,085

Entertaining shoot-em-up

I won a copy of “A Touch Of Malice” through Goodreads to read and review.
“A Touch of Malice” is an entertaining, fast-paced, action novel. Nothing too complicated and not much in the way of deep thinking or introspection by the typically macho hero. He is set out to do a job does it with the usual heroics and that is it.
It was the perfect book to read on a freezing, snow swept winter day while sipping on something hot. Or, in fact , any other day when you want a fast bit of fun.

Slow beginning

I don't giving 4 stars especially on a writer I really because usually his books are better than a 5. The reason for a 4 is the beginning, there is a lot of back story in the first few chapters and very little action, however, these books are better starting with book one and read as series but they can be used stand alone books therefore the back story takes longer on this book because a lot happened in the first 3. Definitely read though when the action begins it's fantastic Evelyn1,307 3

I have read all 4 so far - this is weird because I had just finished reading a book about Central America then this book came along & it is about Columbia in South America. I had not read about Nick & Matt for a while but everything came back to me about them & Arizona as if I had just finished reading the other 3 books. I don't believe the POTUS would go to South America in the position that he did or do what he did but loved the storyline! amazon-kindle Marissa3,204 41

What a thriller!!!

Never a dull moment. Ponzo wrote an incredible story that left you hanging out there with indecision trying to figure out what the outcome would be. With each outcome was a pleasant surprise. One could only hope for a good ending to the book. Ponzo did not let you down. A must read!

a fast paced action packed story

I received this in a goodreads giveaway. I enjoyed this fast paced action story with a surprise ending. The president’s brother is kidnapped I bogota. Nick Bracco leads the rescue operation. The president flies down to provide a distraction for the rescue. Will keep you glued to the book River180 3

Great Story!

This story moves quickly and really keeps you on the edge of your seat. The story is all action. The native Indian tribe was one of the most interesting things I read. I wonder how much of that was fiction and how much was based on a tribe or group of them. Patricia Mccammon1,090

A Touch of Malice by Gary Ponzo is book 4 in the Nick Bacco series. This was not my favorite of the series but it was good. It was a little more unrealistic especially the part with the President going to Colombia.
Trent Merrick is a documentary film maker who is in Colombia to document an Indian tribe who is being forced out of its land by drug lords wanting to use their land to grow their crops. While he is there, he runs across a meeting between the President of Colombia and a drug cartel leader. It shows the President on his knees kissing the hand of the drug lord. He is captured but not before he sends the picture to his brother, President Merrick of the United States.
President Merrick immediately wants Nick Bracco and Matt McColm to head a team to go in and get his brother. He doesn’t believe those who hold him will ask for ransom and it is not his style to pay ransom although he might give in this time.
Nick and Matt agree and leave for Florida to meet up with their team. Nick contacts his cousin Tommy and he joins the team in information gathering. Tommy also gets the best man to lead them into the Amazon- Anton Kalinikov. Anton was the Russian who was to kill Nick and Matt but in reality helped them. Now they are working together.
While they are trying to get into the Amazon and find Trent, the President, against his advisors wishes, goes to Colombia to talk to the President and hopefully gain some help in locating Trent.
What will happen? Will they get to Trent before he dies? What will the President do while he is in Colombia?

This story starts with the President's brother being captured by a drug cartel in Columbia. The President requests help from the FBI who then contact Nick. Nick and Matt prepare to go to Columbia and free the President's brother. Nick also obtains help from his cousin Tommy. Tommy pursues searching for a guide who knows the area. This results in the Russian, who was a big part of the previous book, joining the team.

The action in Columbia is quite intense and will keep you reading to the end to find out wheter they are successful. There are so many up and downs in the action that it is impossible to put the book down until you have finished it.

This is another winner for this author, and I highly recommend you read all of the books in this series. David Dalton2,578

In the far future a mutation develops and humankind is split into Simes and Gens. Simes "change over" at adolescence into vampire- creatures that must suction off energy from Gens every month. Ordinarily, this causes the death of the Gen. But then "Channels" are discovered who could safely take energy from Gens and give that energy to Simes. Ercy Farris is pre-changeover, a potential channel with a dream to grow a mythical flower with special powers, the "Mahogany Trinrose." Not my favorite of the Sime/Gen books--that would probably be Ambrov Keon--but definitely a good read in a series that's a favorite of mine. Both Lichtenberg and Lorrah who write books in this series are good storytellers and create characters to care about.ebooks fiction novels ...more1 Maureen274 5

This is full of spoilers. Proceed at your own pleasure, having been warned.

I’m not as fond of this book as the ones that have come before. Here’s why:

* Talk of witches and magic got mixed up with the science, and — to my mind — made for a less impactful read.

* Ercy was using science to create the Mahogany Trinrose elixir kerdovan, but at the end, it was developed with some sort of esoteric magic, courtesy of Hal.

* The hallucinogenic dreams after using kerdovan seemed an acid trip pulled out of thin air and I had a hard time making them make sense within the structure of the story. Both times it was used.

* The ending seemed jumbled and a bit chaotic; things left in the air. The presence of Ercy’s cousin is a big, big problem left unanswered. Digen’s future seems a large hole that could be filled beautifully or tragically, depending on what happens next. I’m not even sure Ercy found her satisfactory ‘ever-after.’

* The presence of Joeslea in the story seems to be there for convenience sake, without drawing her a full character outline. She seems to be pulled out of the cupboard when necessary and otherwise, she’s not a contributor.

* There was a bit too much ephemeral dreamscape that didn’t sit solidly. As fantasy readers, we can be expected to take a lot of wispy plot occurrences and run with it. I just felt there was a bit too much of it and I felt the plot suffered as a result.

* It’s not hard to see what’s going on in Digen’s side of the story, although, for the life of me, why he’s want to abandon Zeor to a 16 year-old leader, believing that she’s ready simply because he wants to get away. He didn’t want to leave it to her older cousin because he wasn’t mature enough. So … wtf?

The world-building is, as always absolutely first rate. I’m not going to hate the book, I just don’t think it one of the most cohesive stories in the Sime / Gen pantheon. This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.Show full review Susan Lundy283 5

While sheltering-in-place, I'm reading all the sci-fi/fantasy books I missed in the early 1980's (when I was handling a toddler and was reading "A is for Apple".) This is is the only book in the series I recall reading...and enjoyed coming into the fantasy world that includes the science of cross-pollinating roses as a main theme. Enjoyed the writing and wish I had discovered her earlier, but next time I come across a Jacqueline Lichtenberg book, I'll read the next one, too! Alan Farner13

I couldn't finish this book because it was more of a fairy tale than science fiction. This girl believes that if she grows this mythical trinrose from hybrids and everything in Sime/Gen world would be all better. Michael Jose220 3
