love Jack Treby’s books and narrations

This is my second Jack Treby book. Such fun!
I look forward to more adventures of Hilary or Simon. Maybe even other adventures.1 Nancy1,578 Read

A long forgotten book conceals a dangerous secret.

James Faraday is about to turn eighty and his daughter has organised a gathering of friends and family at Woodford Grange to celebrate the big day. There will be a marquee in the garden, plenty of food and drink, and a huge stack of birthday presents. One particular gift, however, is proving difficult to track down.

For Simon Turing, who works in the local bookshop, it is just another order; an out of print book of wartime statistics. It only takes a day or two for him to locate a copy.

As soon as the book arrives, however, things start to go awry. The shop is burgled. Simon is knocked off his bike on his way to the Grange. And a worker at the estate suffers a fatal accident. Is it just a run of bad luck or are more sinister forces at work?

Simon is about to find out.

This brilliant British cozy mystery whodunit starts with Simon Turning. He's a young bookstore employee that finds trouble as soon as he comes into work. First it's a buglar qt the shop after an order comes in for a rare book by a woman as a present for her fathers 80th birthday. Then when Simon shows up to deliver thr book at the party to the man's grand estate. There ends up being a death at the estate. Simon and his friend Susan end up snooping. It was interesting and entertaining to read. Easy to enjoy and get into the mystery. Plus the mystery takes place at an estate with characters similar to an Agatha Christie novel. I rather d the book.

It kept twisting and turning the entire read and you weren't quite sure who did it until the end. Great.

I didn't that the clues were so weak, or that Simon had such a weak personality. If I found another book in the series cheap I would probably buy it and see how he would be linked to that mystery. Sean140 1 follower

This was fine. Heavy handed on the tropes (exhaustingly dumb protagonist blundering his way through awkward situations, villain doing a massive exposition dump for no reason, etc.) but the characters were able enough and it was a quick read.mystery Jane Glen944 3
