Sinopsis

Five years ago, a group of teenage girls entered the Poison Apple Halloween Carnival for a scavenger hunt, and all but one died at the hand of a masked killer. Now, a copycat killer has emerged and is using a familiar cotton-candy-coated playbook to pick off a new group of girls one by one.

Meanwhile, the Scavenge’s lone survivor—still haunted by ghosts from the past and unable to move on from her loss—begins receiving disturbing text messages, seemingly from beyond the grave. When someone from home contacts her for help, she realizes that she must return to the carnival to warn the new girls and stop the original killer’s protégé, or they may suffer the same fate as the victims in the last Senior Scavenge.

There’s just one problem: According to the people of Belldam, the Senior Scavenge never happened.

Very important sequel to the very cool girl slasher Tastes Candy, which I LOVEDslasher young-adult3 s2 comments Sarah Elaine100 1 follower

I was so extremely excited about this because I loved the first one, but I honestly was disappointed.

I loved part one of this story it was so well written, and I was eating up that plot. I was so pumped into it. It was violent the first and had me hooked. I loved Dusty's psychotic break and brutal killing of her mom, but girl, you are not a good serial killer.

Then part two happened. My biggest complaint about the first book was the random off paced flashbacks. That was all of a sudden back in the second part. It felt a different person wrote part one and two. The plot got so far-fetched and all over the place that it was hard to keep up. The ending felt so thrown together and confusing that I'm still not sure what was real. Are they saying Blythe survived? Because what? The random relationships of James, Violet, and Blyther literally felt so forced and made no sense at all. I hated the electronic aspects as well.

I'm so sad about this. But I do still love this author. I will continue to read this series if another one as they still are mostly wildly entertaining. This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.Show full review3 s Sharron Joy Reads402 12

It is five years after the events of the first book and the massacre at the Poison Apple carnival during a nighttime scavenger hunt, the town has chosen to deny any of it ever happened. Now a copycat killer is in town stalking a new group of girls using the same method.

As the survivor of the first book struggles to come to terms with her trauma she receives messages, emails and texts, and realises she has to go back to Belldam and stop history from repeating itself, she has to save the new intended victims. But the town refuses to acknowledge the past massacre or the threat of the new maniac.

Well, this is even better than the first one. A new group of girls, a town sworn to secrecy and a higher body count. The story has more twists than a corkscrew, it wild and such a riot to read. The dialogue is incredible and so real, the deaths just as bizarre and the characters caught in the madness just as brave and crazy!

Both of the books are on KU and such entertaining reads! 1 Brie1 review

Revenge is SWEET!

I could not WAIT for this book to come out. I am a sucker for books that take place on the same timeline, and Ivy Tholen’s Maul Rats, Tastes Candy, and Tastes Candy 2 do just that. The little tie-ins were incorporated into the story so well. Excellent visuals & aesthetic, well-thought out characters, and just the right amount of humorous gore. Just when I thought I had the whole story figured out, I was proven wrong with another plot twist. I blew through the entire book in 6 hours and loved every minute!1 Monica139 36

Okay so this one is 3.5 stars, I actually d this one a LOT more than the first one (at first) but it started to lose me in the second half… the opposite of how I felt in book 1.

- starting off with the Dusty storyline had me HYPED it was high energy and I was loving the violence so early on
- I do think that having all the character and setting backstory from book 1 helped book 2 to jump right into things faster
- part 2 felt a completely different book - honestly it kind of felt the writing was so different that it could have been two authors between part 1 and part 2
- I still don’t Violet’s random flashbacks, they just seem poorly timed
- by about the 75% mark I was over it and read to be done. The second half of the book tried WAY too hard to be over the top
- the tech stuff was cool for a little, but then was just way too much and it felt it lost the charm of the vibe from the first book.
- I am still SO confused by the ending??? Was this a supernatural horror now? Or is this setup for a third book? Idk but I’m not a fan
- But I loved the horror elements in their basic form, the violence and gore was excellent. The action was more consistent and I was really interested in knowing what would come next1 Megan Jarvis787 5

This had so many ups and downs! It definitely wasn’t consistent. There were times throughout the book where I was I love where this is going, this is great and other times that I had no interest in what was going on but it would flip from enjoyment to boredom so quickly. It definitely wasn’t what I was expecting for a sequel and I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first but it was still (mostly) an entertaining read! 1 Kalin Stevey707 1 follower

*4.5 stars*

As soon as I saw this book had been published i immediately ordered the paperback and downloaded it on my kindle because I couldn’t wait for the paperback to come in the mail. Anything Ivy Tholen writes I will read but Taste Candy 2?! I was beyond excited! This was great. The writing is fantastic and kept me reading. The “slashes” are original and unpredictable. The characters were complex. Just absolutely awesome. The Mail Rats references (xylophone man, Bonnie blue, Funt Me video, bubba & Amelia, paulie’s pop-a-corn, Tia Marrina’s, BDP Pizza, right round records) had me so happy every time one came up!

The only reason I didn’t give this 5 stars was 1. I wish more has taken place back at the carnival and 2. I wanted a bit more from the ending. I debate if it’s even fair to give it 4.5 stars because I think anything I compares to Taste Candy would come up just a touch short.

At the end of the day, this was another fantastic book by a fantastic author! Rachella191 2

A sequel that lives up to the original

After reading Tastes Candy last summer, I wanted more. Sugarless delivered, in spades. Gripping and compelling, this book will keep the reader longing to know what happens next.

I really enjoyed the two parts of this novel and how they tie together. At first I thought that it would be another version of Tastes Candy, so I never expected the second part.

I cared a lot about what happens to all of the characters and loved the use of text messages to bring Blythe back from the grave.

A totally binge worthy book that I'd recommend to anyone who loves thrillers, circus/carnival settings and of course, those who love Tastes Candy. Sky Kiah7

This book left me completely flabbergasted by the end. I really d the first book and when I found out the second was coming out I was so excited. It was cool to see Violets story continue and all the plot twists inside the book kept me intrigued the whole time and now I’ve recommended the first one to multiple of my friends. Overall, the book was really good and now I need a continuation. Victoria36

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. I that it took place on my birthday, but I hated that they cucked us with the ending what??? I felt there were cool homages to the first book, but the ending of this book completely ruined the ending of the previous installment. Some good red herrings and creative kills, but I don’t know if I loved all the electronic aspects. If there’s a third one I’m definitely reading though it was very fun and engagingThis entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.Show full review Danielle Marie1 review

I’m not usually a horror fan but this book’s cover drew me in and kept my attention! I finished reading it in less than a day! I could picture everything so vividly, it was well done and I thought the ending was very with the times and there was foreshadowing of who the killer was the whole time- so good! If you’re considering reading this, I definitely recommend you do! Lvmmax15

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book and as soon as I saw there was a second one? I got it and dove in immediately, more twisted then the first and also mildly batshit crazy in the those twists. It’s a fun ride. I devoured this book over two days and I really, really hope there is a third on the way. Megan1 review

I love the slasher vibe and how modern technology comes in to play but why are the characters so dumb? I mean you’d think that the second time around they would have weapons or at least prepare before running into danger… Over all still enjoyed but a lot of small details could have made this a much better book. I’ll never look at those grocery store robots the same ever again. Five years after the massacre at the Poison Apple Fest, Violet gets a text that forces her to return to where it all began. This sequel has more ups and downs than a roller coaster. Ivy Tholen does slashers no one else. I still have no idea if I’ve put it all together or not, some things just don’t stay dead.

Yikes Krispies!

Overall I really enjoyed this book. The first was better in my opinion but this was still a really good read!

Again, I LOVED the Slumber Party Massacre reference.

Kenzie was a real one!

Loved Bubba and Amelia as well.

I loved the first book in this series so much and I went into this one hoping to love it just as much. The plot was a little all over the place and the ending was disappointing but overall I really d it. It doesn't have the magic of the first book but it held my interest and kept me reading. Jacqueline Scifres214

I was so excited to read this after reading the first one last year. Part one of the book was an easy four or five star. Then it switched to part two and the writing was so choppy. It seems it had a completely different writer. Therefore, I had to lower my rating to 3 stars Shaylee390 44
