This is a beautiful, profound, mysterious book of dreams, memories, myths, rituals, which all blend and swirl together layers of lake water on a windy moonlit night. It takes time to finish reading this tremendous work by environmental activist Michiko Ishimure. I've been mostly reading it at night, which has been both the best and the worst time for reading it. I loved reading this work I closed in on my own dream time, so that the dreams in this book seeped into my own as I finally drifted off. But, when I was sleepy, I sometimes had to reread a page or two to try to keep track of who was dreaming, remembering, experiencing; what was a dream or experience, what was spirit or corporeal, and what was past or present. I am pretty sure that Ishimure does not always want the reader to be able to keep track of these things, but I wanted to be aware of when I meant to lose the thread. The book has been so incredibly worth the time and effort it has taken to finish it. I imagine it will be one of my favorite books for a long time, and I will reread many times in the years to come. favorites2 s Sarah20
