4? Well Thought Out, Twisty & Thrilling Plot

Bad Seed is the third book in the series.
Ok so although it can be read as a standalone as i gather the crime cases are different, but I felt I missed out on some character backstories and references. It didn't hinder my enjoyment I just felt a lil in the dark at times.

Bad Seed is a gripping crime serial killer, with a well developed police procedural, and plenty of lil twists to keep you on your toes.

The book opens up with a murder scene.
The victim a young women, who is naked from the waist down, strangled, and a operation scar which appears at first as a c-section. Odd right?

At first DI Kate Fletcher and her team think it's an isolated case.
But as the plot thickens and another body turns up, they start to realise they have a sadistic serial killer on the lose!

I really d DI Fletcher she's a strong detective, with a great team behind her.
I loved the police procedural side to this book. The interviews, the insider knowledge, even the post mortem examination was interesting I felt I was in the room.

Not only do you get the detective work, you also get certain detectives personal stories running alongside which flowed nicely.
You also are privy to snippets from the serial killer which was intriguing as it never gave too much away, but have a sinister atmospheric feel

Overall Bad Seeds is a Pacy, Crime Murder Mystery, with a Well Thought Out, Twisty and Thrilling Plot, a Strong Police Procedural team, and plenty of lil twists to keep you hooked and guessing as you work alongside the team to solve the case.

I am going to look into reading the other books in the series as I want to know more about the characters.
I do hope there will be a forth book as I can definitely see this being a compulsive series.

Thank you to Bloodhound Books for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

BAD SEED (DI Kate Fletcher Book #3) by Heleyne Hammersley is the latest DI Kate Fletcher British police procedural in the series. This is the first book I have read in this series by this author and it is easily read as a standalone. I enjoyed it so much, I will definitely be going back to read the first two books.

DI Kate Fletcher is called to the scene of a gruesome murder victim found dumped in a field. The victim has been strangled, raped and had her abdomen sliced open with a precision cut similar to a Caesarean incision. She was not pregnant. As Kate’s team works to identify the woman, they soon discover that those around her are hiding something.

When a second body is found with similar wounds, Kate believes they may have a serial killer.
Can Kate and her team catch this methodical killer before another woman dies?

This is a fast paced procedural that kept me turning the pages. Ms. Hammersley’s writing pulls you in and with all the twists and turns I could not put it down. I love DI Kate Fletcher. A strong female lead character done well. The whole team makes a great cast of secondary characters that I hope to learn more about as I follow the series.

I can highly recommend this book and I cannot wait to read more in the series!

4 and 1 / 2 stars

DC Dan Hollis has a personal situation that is driving him to distraction. He is not sleeping well and can't seem to get with it at work – and it shows.

DI Kate Fletcher responds to the call of a body in a field. The woman has apparently been strangled and has a red slash down her abdomen. Almost immediately, the police match her up to a missing persons report that was called in the night before. Her name is Melissa Buckley.

Two weeks into the investigation, Kate's team are getting frustrated and downcast at their lack of progress. Then another woman is murdered in the same fashion as Melissa Buckley. Chloe was a quiet and careful woman, so how could she have attracted the killer? The police find a connection between Chloe, Melissa and the fertility clinic they visited.

When another woman is murdered, it throws the investigation into confusion. The team has several suspects, but which one is the killer! Has he, or she, done this before?

The identity of the killer turns out to be not so much of a surprise for Ms. Hammerslay gives their identity away earlier in the book. But it was a heck of a lot of fun getting there.

This book is engaging and solidly written. Ms. Hammersley is a fine writer. I have read all of her books thus far and have enjoyed them all. The characters are interesting and the team works well together with only a few bumps in the road. Kate is a good manager and cares about her people and that counts to this reader. This is a very good police procedural and is overall very well done.

I want to thank NetGalley and Bloodhound Books for forwarding to me a copy of this very fine book for me to read, enjoy and review. 4 s Julie Lacey1,794 111

This is a fast paced crime thriller that I really enjoyed.
DI Kate Fletcher and her team are trying to find a killer who rapes his victims and then cuts their stomachs to look a caesarean cut.
After the first victim is found they don’t have many leads so struggle to know where to start.
When the second victim is found the clues start to build up and the hunt is on.
Hollis is finding life hard as his biological mother has turned up and is trying to blackmail him.
When his personal life collides with the case, Kate has no choice than to tell him to take some time off.
There is a really good dynamic with Kate and her team and I look forward to reading more books about her.
Thanks to Heleyne for sending me a copy of this book. 4 s Bonnye Reed4,434 76

DI Kate Fletcher is an interesting protagonist, as are the rest of her team. I enjoyed the way this tale circled around the whole crew, and too d the interactions between the team members. This was a complex mystery handily solved - and well-hidden until later in the book. We spend some time in Doncaster, and visit Northumberland. Heleyne Hammersley is an author I am pleased to recommend to friends and family. This was a fast and entertaining read.

I received a free electronic copy of this British police procedural on Feb 7, 2019 from Netgalley, Heleyne Hammersley, and Bloodhound Books in exchange for an honest review. Thank you all for sharing your hard work with me.

This is the third book featuring DI Kate Fletcher in what is becoming a truly great series. Set in Doncaster, Kate and her team are called to the gruesome discovery of a woman's body displayed in a field. She has been strangled but also has a strange slash across her abdomen. Could the killer have been trying to perform a Caesarean? She is quickly identified as Melissa Buckley, reported missing by her husband but he seems to be in the clear and, since she wasn't pregnant, the detectives are short on possible motives and suspects. That is, until a second body is found, murdered and mutilated in the same way. This was a sensible careful young woman so just how did she meet her killer and let him take advantage of her? Kate and her team really have their work cut out, especially since her boss and her DC have problems of their own to cope with. This is an excellent police procedural where the identity of the killer is becoming clear but whether it can be proved and what could be their motive is another matter. Well written, with able and interesting characters, and very enjoyable. 2 s Tim Mullen155 1 follower

Kate Fletcher and her Doncaster based team return with an investigation into the murder of two women, both of whose bodies have been mutilated in an unusual way. Add to the mix the pending retirement of their Detective Chief Inspector and a figure from DS Hollis' past that he very much wishes had stayed there and you have an engrossing read. I love the fact that every member of the team plays a significant role in catching the culprit, and with each outing they become an ever tighter knit group. Helene Hammersley' stories may not hurtle at breakneck speed but they are always engrossing and believable.2 s Claire lang87 2

Love this series my only problem was I finished it to quick. Heleyne's writing is so ease to follow and you just get lost in the book that a few hours have passed before you even lift your head up.
Can't wait to see what they all get up to next. Would highly recommend this anyone who just loves a reading x2 s Mary Ryan930 20

Another very enjoyable book in this series by this very under-rated author, imo.

I was very kindly given the opportunity to read and review this, for which I'm very grateful as I really enjoyed the story and characters. Excellent book. 2 s Judith Baxter193 19

The story opens with the gruesome discovery of a young woman’s body and it looks as if the killer has attempted to perform a c-section on her. Soon a second body is found, with the same cut to the abdomen, so DI Kate Fletcher and her team realise they are hunting one murderer of both women.

So begins a complex investigation, with many twists and turns. The only connection between the murdered women is the desire to have a child. But can this be the root of the murders? And what is the connection between these murdered women and a woman from four years earlier, who only just survived?

And what about the biological mother of one of Fletcher’s team and the impact on that team member and the rest of the team?

We are introduced into the world of forensic medicine and the morgue with some fairly detailed descriptions. The police procedural is well written. All the characters are well rounded and believable. Kate’s relationships with her immediate superior and her team are well described and left me feeling that I knew these people; a definite art in fiction writing.

The team is soon fairly certain who the murderer is and we follow the team in its efforts to nail him.

Ms Hammersley is an established writer. I understand that this is No 3 in the Kate Fletcher series and I would highly recommend it if crime and police procedural/work the are subjects where you find your reading thrills.1 Jessica Bronder2,015 28

DI Kate Fletcher is called in to investigate a woman that has been raped and murdered. What’s odd is she has a cut on her abdomen a caesarean surgery. She is identified by her husband, who has an alibi and the detectives seem at a loss with the case until another woman is discovered. The detectives quickly realize that there is a serial murder on the loose and they need to catch him before another woman is murdered.

Kate Fletcher is a great detective and a strong lead. But her team is having some personal issues that are affecting their performance with this case. She realizes something is wrong with her one of her team and think it has to deal with the case. Unfortunately they have other things going on and Kate has to tell them to take time off, even though they need all the bodies they can get.

I loved the mystery and the twists and turns to the story. I was quickly sucked into the story and had a hard time putting it down. This is my first book from Heleyne but it won’t be my last. Now I need to catch up on the first two books in the series to see what I have missed.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.

A body of a woman is found, strangled, mutilated and left where it was meant to be found.

DI Kate Fletcher is sent to investigate with her usual dogged determination. Then a second body is found, again with the same injuries…..is the killer leaving a message? Is there a link between these poor women, and why the mutilation ?

What follows is a totally gripping tale of a police investigation with the personal lives of each of them and how sometimes it adds to the stresses of their work. DC Hollis’ story is just so emotional, I was just willing him to talk to someone…….

I felt these personal stories and problems added such a feeling of realism, I was so immersed in the story, a credit to the very clever and creative writing by Heleyne Hammersley. The story races along with so much going on right up to the last page….a brilliant read and I can wholeheartedly recommend it….

Thank you to Bloodhound Books for the opportunity to participate in this blog tour and for the promotional materials and a free copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest, unbiased review.1 M1,528

Solid police procedural featuring a gripping mystery & a tough female detective

I DI Kate Fletcher because she’s a strong, intelligent police protagonist without a lot of messy psychosocial baggage. DI Fletcher and her team hunt a man (or woman) after the murder-mutilation of a woman, whose everyday life seems ordinary, except for her overwhelming need to have a baby. No matter how many leads are followed, the investigation soon stalls, until the murderer kills again.

The drama-heavy subplot, featuring DC Dan Hollis, skews melodramatic with angst and internal monologuing, plus lots of alcohol. One drawback: the how, why and when the plots would weave together was too predictable. A minor subplot to pay attention to involves the street-wise DS O’Connor, who is suspicious about the shifting dynamics amongst the pimps, prostitutes, and low level thugs.

The first person POV of the murderer is suitably creepy, as is the character, not to mention his aberrant mind and reasons for killing. Although the culprit is not difficult to suss out, the mystery storyline kept me reading until the denouement. Recommend to crime fiction fans.

I suspect that my enjoyment of this book was enhanced by the surreal experience of it being set in my friends' "back garden" as their house backs onto Town Fields. It certainly gives a touch of realism to a book to be able to identify locations.

I don’t know if I am alone in realising who the killer was from the moment the person was introduced to the story but it certainly doesn’t detract from the book as there is always an element of doubt, not to mention the hows and whys. Additionally the team have to come to the right conclusions but as events play out there is huge potential for them to be sidetracked and even come to the wrong conclusions.

I believe this is the third book in a series so I shall now be going back to the beginning and starting on book 1.1 Linda222 3

Someone is raping and murdering women, and then carving a C-section incision into their abdomens. Meanwhile, DC Dan Hollis is being blackmailed by his birth mother who has just gotten out of prison. With few real clues to go on, the investigation seems stall. How are they going to solve these murders when they can find no concrete evidence against the murderer? With her DC rattled by things in his personal life, DI Fletcher tries to take care of all the members of her team as the struggle with this case.mystery1 Mary Johnson899 17

I’m enjoying this series all the more when binge reading them. Again, an interesting plot and even though it did include family angst for one of the characters, it didn’t feel contrived.

I’m intrigued to know a little more about the lead character- a new notion for me as I dis murder mysteries that focus more on the investigators than on the crime.

One problem.... yet again I guessed the villain halfway through the book! So do I read the next straight away....hmmmm.

Arrrrrrgh! There isn’t a next one... My level of disappointment reflects my enjoyment of the series. 1 Angie George14
