Sinopsis

"How would you like to be a TV star?"

That's the question going out across the netherworld airwaves, and every type of spooky creature who fancies themselves a chef is responding. It's also the question proposed to fledging witch Christelle Seabright after successfully cooking up a deluge of unearthly recipes for a unique funeral catering job.

Christelle suddenly finds herself the host of Kitchen Witch Wars, the frightfully hot new paranormal cooking contest show. $100,000 is on the line. But there's a problem. One of the first-season contestants is found chopped up, as if an ingredient in their own dish.

Christelle and the other judges must now use all their cryptic resources, including Christelle's still-unperfected magical abilities, to flesh out the murderer in order to save the show. Which of the ghoulish contestants is responsible? Does the mysterious apparition that keeps trying to contact Christelle have any connection?

Pull up a kitchen stool and sink your eyeteeth into Heather Pherris's new cadaverous whodunit. But watch yourself. In the race to become the first Kitchen Witch Wars winner, murder is an ingredient no chef seems afraid to use.

Entertaining enough and a fun good story. Worth getting the next books. 1 Merry Chapman1,802 16

Although there was some backstory missing which would have made this book a little easier, but the flow was very good and the characters were very enjoyable. The main character, Christelle, is very able and very naive since she first discovered she was a witch and needs the guidance of Mrs. Mogridge who is an extremely able character as well. She is invited to cater a very large party held by her best friend Orchid's boss. Orchid wanted her to do it for a leg up for her with her boss. When there is a murder at the party, Christelle seems to have solved it and it incriminates her best friend who then disappears. The the most unly thing happens, a TV show producer, Daegal, wants Christelle to be the host/judge of a new cooking paranormal TV show. Things are never what they appear and the book and bird she inherited from her deceased grandmother have a strange effect on her. When there is a murder on the set, Christelle is called upon to use her yet newly discovered magic to find the murderer and save the show. Lots of craziness, mis-steps, and we are taken on a ride through to the end. A fun read and you are left with a cliff hanger that makes you get the next book in the series to see what will happen next. I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own. Serpina64

I think the plot wasn't bad and could have made a cool story, unfortunately, it didn't.
I'll try to keep the spoiler at a minimum but here is a list of what I disd:

1. The entire story felt the second book of a series. I even googled if there is a prequel. Apparently, there is one planned? At least, it was mentioned in the second last page of the book. There were so many references to a previous story and Christelle's development, that I always had the feeling that I started with the wrong book.
2. The murder itself seems very unplausible... They are on a short break and somehow the entire studio is completely empty... but well, that might be true, just felt weird.
3. The conclusion was... actually, it didn't matter if she figured it out or not because the reader is not really included and the way she solves it, in the end, does not require any detective work at all, so she could have done it without any investigation.

Too short, to be properly developed, even though I d the protagonist and probably would have enjoyed the story if it hat been two or three times as long and, therefore, more detailed and not that rushed and finished with a sledgehammer.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Rachel N474 4

*4 Stars!!

I really enjoyed this book but for me it didn't feel the first book in the series, it felt more the second and I missed the build up to to this book, how did Christelle find out she was a witch? what about her best friend admitting to a murder? Ive missed so much which was a let down. I definitely think that there should be a prequel. I did the plot but would have d it more if we saw how Christelle came to the conclusion of who the murder was.

Will definetly be reading the prequel when it's released.arcs booksprout Kat Taylor1,655 19
