SO MUCH POTENTIAL

This was a clean story of a Duke, who married a Lady who was accidentally compromised when they were found in a garden alone after he defended her against a few women attacking her about her scars and the rumors of her being cursed. They agreed to a marriage of convenience. They had outside forces that did not want them to be happy and tried to sabotage their marriage, but they ultimately had a happily ever after.

I was really pulled in by the first three chapters. I thought the story had a lot of potential. I was excited when Duncan and Sophia met for the first time in the garden. There was definitely a connection between them, but then I don’t feel it was explored. More than the first half of the book was spent with Sophia interacting and being trained by the Dowager duchess and forming a bond with Duncan’s brother Jacob. It felt a little drawn out. Jacob was a fun character, but I felt there was more interactions with him and the H and h than there was between Duncan and Sophia together. She spent more time trying to avoid Duncan. She was annoying as a heroine. She wasted a lot of time focused on a curse that didn’t exist. Duncan was a great character. He was constantly defending her and showing genuine concern for her feelings. It just seemed from the beginning he was determined to do the honorable thing, but she was receiving all the benefits from their union. He had to convince her to even spend time with him. I often found myself frustrated with her and the fact that Duncan, his bother, and everyone else had to try and keep convincing Sophia that she wasn’t cursed. The relationship and love just seemed very lopsided, and there wasn’t really any steam either so it made it hard to feel a real connection between them which is why I gave this book 3 stars. 1 CAB121769

Haunted Duchess

This is a very good read. Sophia will find herself in a situation where she will need to marry and Duncan will make her his success since he is the one responsible for inadvertently ruining Sophia's reputation. Sophia and Duncan both have past that haunt them and they will become closer because of there past. But someone in the ton is not happy with the union and will do anything to harm it.

Is She Cursed?

I enjoyed this story. Lady Sophia had been badly scarred in an accident that killed her family. She was considered to be cursed because she survived. Duke Duncan did not social events but attended a ball, to please his mother. He overheard Sophia being bullied by other ladies and stepped in to stop them. This resulted in him being accused of compromising Sophia and they were forced to marry in a marriage of convenience. Their marriage was slow to start off and Sophia was worried her curse would affect the Duke. Just as they were beginning to develop feelings for each other, a jealous person tried to separate them. There is a poisoning and an attempted murder before Duncan and Sophia are safe to find happiness together. I d the way that Sophia learned to stand up to the bullies. A good, well-written story.1 Linda1,026 21

Well written novel with great editing and character development. In a time period and culture where appearance was everything, a CHILD who experienced such a tragedy and sustained scars was considered 'cursed?!" Cruel. It was fortunate for both main characters that they met and married. She was spared a isolated future and he was spared life with a malicious shrew.

I was so glad that they did not allow the OW wanna be to escape being legally held responsible for her crimes (as is the case in many Victorian romances). She was not remorseful only angry at getting caught.

I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline, the main characters and the secondary characters added depth and feeling to the story. Well done.alpha-hero angst historical ...more1 Vickie Gehrt166

Love is taking scars and all.

A story of accepting a person for who they are and not by appearances. I d how this topic was attacked within this story. It was dealt with addressing all the oppositions and by great characters. I hope you will appreciate this too.1 Maryellyn Krantz171

seeing the real person

Duncan was able to see beyond the scars and find a truly valuable person. The story moved at a good rate of speed and the characters were worth getting to know.1 Christiane Robillard316 1 follower

Bad

The writing is entirely inappropriate for the period. No effort whatsoever was made on the part of the writer to adhere to the vocabulary or customs of the regency era. The Dowager Duchess of Blackmoore is addressed as Duchess Anna? The continual use of American expressions and slangs renders this book laughable. The writing and dialogue is juvenile … both awkward and stilted. There are no nuances nor subtlety in any of the characters. Add to that the innumerable typos.

“ … His Grace has something very important to consult you regarding.” “Why else would you think that I would make all the trouble to travel to you? “ “He had always grown bored easy of things that could be attained without much trouble …” “… Lady Sophia had clawed inside of his heart even though he had thought of it as out of order years priors to her appearance”. These are just a few examples of the atrocious grammar contained in this book. The book is riddled with such egregious errors. Does this writer even speak English? This book is an insult to the readers.

I believe I have read several other books by this author and I don’t remember them being so gauche. Perhaps this is one of her earlier efforts? I definitely do not recommend this book to anyone. I gave a 1 but this book is a 0. Carol1,857 3

nice read

Sophia, who lost her family years ago, dreads entering the season for the second time, as her first season ended after one ball. Still she prepares for it despite her misgivings. She ends up in a difficult situation which only the duke, Duncan, can correct..and he does by offering marriage. After they marry and develop sincere feelings tragedy, through another’s actions, strikes again. What happens and how do things work out for this newly wed couple to their hea. Read this sweet story and find out NelleRenn375

The heroine has scars and believes she is cursed. Bing bullied by other ladies doesn’t help and that is when the hero enters the picture. They are found alone in the garden so they must marry. The story seems to revolve a lot around trying to convince the heroine that she is not cursed. She almost spends more time with the hero’s brother than she does with the hero. This heroine was a little bit harder to get to , even though I am a sucker for scarred characters. Diana R Harries1 review

I knew the theme of the book was something I had seen before. So, when I finished it, I went looking for similar themes. This book closely follows the same theme as "The Duke's Cursed Bride" by Tiffany Baton. The names are different and a few of the details vary, fire vs drowning of heroine's family tragedy; Aunt vs Uncle raising heroine, but the basis in both stories are the same Jamesetta Jackson72

Nice Story

The plot and the characters of the story were great it goes to show you how society can be cruel to you if you're a woman and you have scars on your body but it goes to show you how the Duke look beyond the scars and saw what a beautiful person she was inside and outside. Ouida 3

Entertaining Read 4.6 rounded to 5 stars

This novel held my interest. I d the main characters. I thought that the heroine should not have left the hero while he was still ill however because it was too soon to know if he would recover. I recognize that it was a plot device to make the heroine look guilty by others but was too precipitate Patricia Russell1 review

Pretty great read

I felt this story was a breath if fresh air, had some small typoes and words that were not used correctly, but overall an impressive and sweet story about love and resiliency! Laurie33

His broken Duchess

Great book, glad I bout it. Worth a 2nd read. (And maybe a third). Who doesn’t love a good lookin duke (he has got to be good looking if he is so great to her when nobody else was. johanna kolb265

Same old

This Book follows one I finished a while back.
Scarred lady, duke eschewing marriage, scandal!
The names are changes but the story is the same.
Needs lots of editing due to words being omitted and extra ones added.
Nice try JEANNETTE A WARREN1 review

What happens after you are forced into a marriage to prevent a scandal when all you were doing was trying to protect a lady from being billed? Duncan is about to find out and you will to when you read this story. No spoilers here!!1 Art1,135 8

Grief, scandal, a forced marriage and more are the points of the plot in this regency romance. I enjoyed this tale and how darkness leads to light for Sophia and Duncan. This is a great page turning book and I was glad to read it. general-fiction Cheryl Rochford9
