Sinopsis

Her life changed forever when the stranger came to town...

Julie Williams has what most people would call an ideal life—a loving husband, a daughter in college, and a son in the military. She lives in a small town where she owns and operates a coffee shop, Uncommon Grounds. But she didn’t always have it so easy. Raised in a single-parent household by a selfish and domineering mother who moved them around the country, Julie longed for stability and a place to call home. When she enlists the help of a local genealogist to search for information on her father, she learns surprising things about both parents. Then a mysterious stranger arrives. He watches Julie’s movements, asks questions, and hangs around her coffee shop. When the stranger’s identity is revealed, it changes everything Julie holds dear.

Reseñas Varias sobre este libro

The Stranger is a novella written by Joan Hall; it opens with Margie's funeral and provides a bit of suspense and mystery with the strange visitor lurking in the background. When the deceased's daughter mentions that no one d her mother, you know there's got to be a story we need to learn. And there definitely is. Who wouldn't love their mother? Or at least mourn her? From the bits and pieces of memories shared with us, Margie didn't seem a very nice woman; yet under the surface, something must have transpired years ago.

The tale combines genealogy, family drama, and a touch of suspense. We know there's a possibility of historical abuse, but not when or who it happened to specifically. We also worry that someone is stalking the main character, Margie's kind and well-d daughter. Written with the backdrop of a lovely coffee shop, a small town setting, and friendly supporting characters, it's easy why this is a quick and lighthearted read... but it also offers the right balance of investigation, emotions, and feel-good sentiments.

I enjoyed the writing style and easily read through this one in under two hours. It's a simple tale with a slightly complex history that we need to unweave. It's almost listening to someone tell you their life story... and it works really well, even when we shift POVs to the stranger who's hiding at the funeral. He could be 1 of 3 people and we're not quite sure how it'll come together, but when it does, it's a lovely overview of all the things that happen when you discover the past you never knew. I enjoyed this foray into the author's works and look forward to reading more in the future.1-fiction 3-short-stories-or-poetry62 s William 5,032 6
