I didnt really this one. First, I couldn't connect with the main character, Rory, or her best friend, Martie. Their interactions and dialogue just seemed off and wrong. Second, it felt nothing outside the "relationship" with Austin was resolved. The strain in relationship with Rory and her mom and even the strain in her relationship with Martie. Last, it was too drawn out. I felt bored and wanted more of the time with Hawaii type stuff. I did Austin and the appearance of Adler and Cason was nice but overall, I cant say I enjoyed it. I'm on streak with surfing books lately. I think this my 4th of the month!

I'm going to up front about this novel and admit that despite my dream of learning how to surf (seriously, I grew up in SoCal and never learned and only got the itch once I moved to Canada, far away from any beach--I'm an idiot), I wouldn't have picked this up if I didn't need to read a book with either the word "sun," "sand," or "waves" in the title (thank you, Popsugar Summer Reading Challenge), so I read this book knowing I probably wouldn't have otherwise chosen to read it.

I guess the good news is I didn't hate it. But there's a lot that doesn't work about this novel.
- The dialogue never worked. People don't talk the way the characters spoke in this novel, and the novel is mainly dialogue, so it really sticks out. It was stilted and weirdly formal at times and the Australian slang seemed really over the top, especially since so many of those phrases were repeated over and over again in the course of the novel.
- We are privy to a lot of internal dialogue. And while I'm not opposed to the occasional reference to an inner thought, there was a lot happening here and the problem with it is that is usually means the author doesn't know how to let their writing speak for itself. I don't need Rory's inner thoughts to tell me she's struggling with her growing attraction to Austin. Show me, Graysen Morgan. Let me feel that conflict along with Rory.
- Martie, Rory's best friend, is pretty terrible. I wouldn't want this person as my friend or my work partner.
- We're supposed to believe that Rory's 3-year old company owns the surfing and snowboarding world in such a short time?
- I didn't understand why the mains were interested in each other in a romantic way. Morgan tells us they are over and over, but I never felt invested in them as a couple.

Some highlights/positives:
- I thought the surfing stuff was really well done.
- Adler Troy. This is apparently a cross-over reference to Morgan's Falling Snow, but I thought the Adler Troy moments were the best thing about this book.

I think 2 stars is really generous, but I strangely didn't hate it.age-gap-more-than-10-years california ebooks ...more1 ~ * K E L L I E * ~144 35

This book was a nice way to spend a few hours reading about the ins and outs of the surfing and snowboarding world. Whilst there wasn't much character interaction (in a romantic sense) until the latter part of the story, Crashing Waves was still a worthwhile read which I couldn't put down.  The short inclusion of the main characters from Falling Snow was an added bonus.

One minor observation, the Aussie slang seemed to be laid on a little thick IMHO. I've never known an Aussie to constantly speak Uncle Mick. Some of the dialogue between him and Rory was ridiculously funny - probably because I had no idea what they were referring to! :-) read-20141 Samie SandsAuthor 61 books305

Rory and Austin are wonderfully lovable and believable characters in another amazing book from this Graysen Morgen. I love the reference to characters from another book - it makes it more exciting for dedicated fans, the scenes are set really well and the plot unveils slowly, which had me gripped. I'd recommend this book to anyone - it's a perfect beach read. Julie Murphy30 1 follower

Why fight it?

I enjoyed the story, though it drags with a lot of repetition and dialogue that is too leading, making predictability too easy. No real tension is built up until events happen that make the ending obvious. However. the ending is worth reading to as it gives some much needed dimension to the tale. Heinerway763 95
