Sinopsis

This is a collection of all six of the Rick&Jerry ebooks. In case you havent read any of this series and would like to know what its like, the first book, "Date with a Bridge", is available for free.

Jerry is gay, ordinary-looking, and getting into his 40s. Hes lost his job as a CT Tech some months ago and been unable to find employment. His money is running out. Depressed and discouraged, he decides to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge in a nearby town and is on his way down the highway. Then his car dies and leaves him stranded on the side of the road.

Rick is a recently retired Marine whos been hitchhiking around the countryside, trying to outrun the nightmares that follow him. He manages to get Jerrys car running again, so Jerry offers him a ride, figuring he can easily get rid of his passenger long before he reaches the bridge.

This is their story as they get to know each other and we learn more about their pasts. Its an engrossing journey as these two broken souls do what they can to save each other. Both men are willing to go out of their comfort zones for each other. Theres plenty of graphic sex to spice things up, as well as action/adventure and emotional turmoil.

The story of Rick and Jerry is far from over. There will be many more books to come.

Nice little story about a guy who decides to end his life and on the way to the bridge he wants to jump off, meets another guy, who of course not only saves his life more than once but also gives him a night to remember.
The plot and the main characters are really enjoyable, even if the reasons for the suicide are rather unbelievable and stupid.
But what I really did not about it, is that the story cost 99 cents for 30 pages and is the first of 6 installments. Sorry but this feels a rip off and I am not willing to pay again and again for a few pages... Unless there is a reasonable package price this was it for me!2 s Ed Davis2,459 83

A lovely story or two men, very different backgrounds who meet and start a journey of opening up to each other and love. Furio823 54

There are two flaws I need to point out in this work, the first -quite short- episode in a series of ? (five currently published):
- it would probably read better as a single volume;
- the author needs to work on his tense harmony: while his grammar is generally in order, there are several wrong verbs and they are disruptive in that they forced me to reread the sentences.

Flaws aside, this story is peculiar to say the least.
Sex scenes are too extensive, explicit and unapologetic to be considered accidental in a plot with other ambitions: the author wants them to be there and wants us to relish them. On the other hand the two characters are just too unglamorous, multifaceted and imperfect to let us think we are reading the usual M/M romance by a woman author.
These two men are no longer young and beautiful and they have quite a load of baggage but, at the same time, their angst does not feel impossibly over the top as is usually the case in angsty M/M romances. In other words, they feel real and if a European me can relate to them, an American, used to those unending open spaces and cheap motels -the key ingredients of every self-respecting on-the-road Americana-, will probably see them in flesh and bones.

This is why I feel this story should have been published in a single volume and read as such, just some bitter liquors are best drunk in a single gulp.gay gay-erotica gay-romance Atom YangAuthor 3 books30

Karl Five's book, Date with a Bridge, shows the earnestness I enjoy in an indie movie--there are editing flaws, to be sure, such as characters popping up that might have been removed in a previous draft (Donnie), changes in tense, and too much of a public service announcement when it came to safer sex--but this is a book with a heart as wide as the bridge the protagonist plans to jump off of at the beginning of the story, and if you overlook some of the missteps, you will read a story imbued with deep sincerity by its author.

Date with a Bridge touches on difficult themes such as depression, suicide, post-traumatic stress disorder, homelessness, bigotry, violence, hate crimes, HIV/AIDS, loneliness, poverty, and loneliness. That's impressive for a novelette. The author writes a survivor--the details are personal and intimate, and the immediacy with which he describes both violence and sex (hate and love), I found thrilling and poignant.

I look forward to reading other works by Five, and also to further development of his writing talent--he is obviously skilled, and has stories to tell, and things can only get better from here. Princess Smith135 1 follower

Brilliant Story.

On so many levels this book is amazing, and yet there are still places to go. I know this area of North Carolina so it was nice to see a little slice of "home". I that the characters are older, experienced. It gives more weight to their words as opposed to a couple of teens/young adults regurgitating what they've read or heard, careening from one bad situation to another. I hope in future stories we get more about Jerry's path to suicide and Rick's PTSD. I know these issues are not the focus here, but how awesome is it to be able to educate while entertaining? Bullies, gay bashers, sometimes they really do get what's coming to them. Safe sex, no matter who, what, when, where, how or why, until you've both been tested (negative), and committed to each other. That aspect was quite refreshing. Now about that picking up strangers and sleeping with them...
This book would be an excellent choice for a group discussion with some teens I know.
