Sinopsis

A murderous traitor. A deadly secret. A battle for truth.

Kat has trained for the last six months to join the Covert Council Service. All that stands in her way are her trials, the final test of her training. If she survives, she'll be a full-fledged agent, able to fight the Directorate and right the wrongs of her mother's past.

Keeping secrets has become a way of life. Kat's the only person who knows a Directorate mole lurks in the Council's midst. With the traitor's identity a mystery, she can't afford to trust anyone, even if it means lying to the people she's vowed to protect.

When the mole almost kills Kat during her trials, she must uncover his identity before he has a chance to finish the job. Her search for the traitor will bring the CCS to its knees, but if she fails, her life and the lives of every CCS agent will be forfeit.

Magic Betrayed is the third book in the Magic Born series and is intended to be read after Magic Born and Magic Unknown.

2/15/19 Two stars at this point.

I only started this last night but already am disgusted with Kat and her immaturity. She's supposedly 22 and had been living on her own as a college student. She should have developed some coping skills and understanding of how the world (both Earth and Elustria) works. She had shown some of this behavior in the first two books but has really gone above and beyond exhibiting this trait in book three. I would to know why she doesn't just quit her training for a job with some secret agency, return to Earth and go on her quest for the medallions her mother created. Oh, and at one point she states that she wishes she could annihilate all sorcerers, yet has warm and fuzzy feelings about her sorcerer father whose essence is essentially trapped in the medallion she wears. At this rate I may not finish this book and/or the series.

Kat is convinced that Thaddeus is the mole inside the agency. On the other hand, his daughter is one of the few people she s. That doesn't make much sense and I believe Thaddeus even sacrificed his military career in part to raise said daughter. Do evil geniuses do that? Right now I am leaning towards Thaddeus being a very Harry Potterish character that is believed to be evil but turns out to be protecting her from the bad guys (as well as herself) As noted, Kat's immaturity doesn't exactly speak well for her judgement. She acts a know-it-all teenager, not an appealing quality in a heroine.

2/16/19 Finished. I must admit that the final few chapters were quite good. Lots of excitement and you get to find out not only who the mole is but also who's the head of the Directorate. I would have given this four or five stars if the entire book had been as interesting with less of Kat going off half-cocked.

Why does Kat not have friends from her childhood? I understand she immersed herself into the online game when her stepparents were killed but she seemed to have had a pretty happy life before then. It seems bizarre that Nicole, who she'd only met once IRL, would be her only "human" contact.

The last comment I have is how nice it was to read a book that has been properly edited. I read a lot of self-published books and spelling and grammar, not to mention repetitious sentences, appear way too often. Even so, I'm going to take a break from this series. Alyce C1 review

I really enjoyed this book as well as the rest of the series so far. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series "Hunted Magic" When I start to read a series I get so deeply involved with each book and it's really hard to but each book down until I am completely finished reading it and I have to look around to see if the next book in the series is ready and get very disappointed that I have to wait for it. Normally I am a very patience person about many things but when it comes to having to wait for a next book in a series, it is soooo very hard to have to be patience and wait. Sometime I actually will collect each book in a series but won't even start to read the first one until I have the entire series and then everyone knows not to bother me until I have finished reading all of them...the good thing is that I am a super fast reader since I had been taught how to speed read in elementary school when I lived down in Florida during those years. If you magical fantasy books and series I would definitely recommend reading one the great series by Caethes Faron John A. Sillasen318 4

A Strong Storyline that Comes to a Head in this 3rd Installment of Kat's Magical Journey

Potential Spoilers. In this third book in Kat Thomas's story, she has advanced her studies, shared small truths while yet extending her lies of omission. She's no closer to discovering the mole but has learned the Directorate has come closer to making magic wielding talismans when a sorcerer comes to the Citadel in person. 14 sorcerers have gone missing and 1 is dead, his magic corrupt and partially missing. With the assistance of Milhouse, Alex and a human best friend, the magical signature of the mage who has been going to the Cushing Sea on the border of the Vortex where clay is found to make Golems.

The continuing story of Kat and her challenge to find her place had a lot of nail biting scenes. Kat is that one person who is has to keep her secrets to herself or risk finding herself an outcast without magic. She is one smart cookie because she is able to reason why something is going on and how to follow the clues. I was disappointed that Alex was not in this story as much because I really him as a character and hopefully he and Millhook will be featured more in the next book in the series. This is turning into a very epic adventure and cannot wait to read the next one. Amy956 49

So, I really enjoyed the first two books of this series, but I really struggled to get through this one, mostly because of Kat's behavior for the first twenty chapters or so. The plot didn't get rolling until the Kat started actually trusting the people who had already been vouched for the character that has never been wrong over the course of the series, and it was a struggle to get to that point. At this point, I may or may not read the fourth book when it comes out.fantasy Sheryl Smith858 4

Kat faces a major challenge

In this third book of the series, Kat, Alex and Millhouse once again fight the good fight. Most of the book is about Kat’s development under the tutelage of the Council. There is some intrigue as Kat tries to identify the mole in their midst. There are some good moments of tension as the story builds and Kat zeros in on the mole. Then, in a final battle, Kat comes face to face with the Director of the Directorate and wow, what a surprise! Jessica351

An exciting book

This book has a ton going on. Kat has been training for 6 months and then things go crazy. Who is the mole? Who can Kat trust? And when this is over will they even still trust her? You'll find the answers to those questions in this book.

It's still mostly action driven but Kat is maturing some in that she realizes she has some significant failing in her life. Joseph163 1 follower

Third in series m I moving on to the third

This is the 3rd of the 3rd and the 3rd and the 3rd and the 3rd and the 3rd and the 3rd and the 3rd and the 3rd and the 3rd and the 3rd and the 3rd and the 3rd and the 3rd and the 3rd and the 3rd and the 3rd and the 3rd and the 3rd and was a very logical extension to the 1st 2 the 4th one should be drifted logical and probably find the end of it David well worth reading Matthew Brian Silcox5

Was a really good read

This was a good read, it started a little slow but most sequels to me seem to do that cause they are trying to catch you up. But once I got through the first part it was hard to put down. I would recommend this book to most anyone who is interested in magical worlds and finding yourself. Mike Lewis1,590 2

Great story

Great story with a great cast of characters. The continuing story of an urban fantasy tail that moves between earth and other realms. The fight against good and evil as cat finds out more and more about her birthright and her mother and father in the world is that come from. If you love magic in fantasy you will love the series check them out Marybelle A. Swaim213 1 follower
