Who doesn't love a good revenge story on a yacht? In France, the Perseus sets sail for Ibiza with Captain Greg, chef Sandy, hostess Freya, and the owner, Falcon--a man used to getting his way ALWAYS! Each of these has their own "story" as protagonist Freya is missing her sister, Polly who became addicted to cocaine in her dealings with Falcon. Greg has his own reasons that aren't revealed until later in the novel, but it's clear that all have an axe to grind and will need each other's help to achieve their goals. It's a whip-smart, fast-paced read that may have you begging off a trip on a yacht if some big-wig invites you!

"The Takedown" by Evie Hunter is a gripping revenge thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.
Freya's determination to bring down the wealthy and arrogant Julian Falcon is palpable, and I couldn't help but root for her every step of the way. As the story unfolds aboard the luxurious yacht Perseus, the tension builds, and I found myself drawn deeper into the web of lies and deceit. The characters are well-developed and intriguing, each with their own motivations and secrets.
The author skillfully crafts a plot filled with unexpected twists and turns, keeping me guessing until the very end. The glamorous setting of the yacht adds an extra layer of allure to the narrative, making it a thrilling and addictive read.
“The Takedown" is a great addition to the suspenseful thrillers genre and intricate revenge plots.

Very grateful to the publisher for this copy, opinions are my own.

Thank you NetGalley and as always Boldwood Books for giving me the opportunity to review this book!

I’m not sure if I would categorise this book as a thriller but it was a good fast paced read. I also got a bit lost at times with everything that was happening. Too many characters involved in this plot. It made it hard to keep track with everyone’s doings .

With this said it was still an enjoyable book that kept me entertained.

This was a new to me author. There were numerous characters to keep tabs on, and a lot of events happening in this book. Freya has ulterior motives of being on the luxurious yacht. The pace is unchanging, the characters are well developed, and it’s an easy, quick read. Moreover, it is hard to include it in the list of thrillers but it is a good book anyway.

On board the superyacht Perseus, moored in the glamorous harbour in Antibes, Freya Addison is settling into her new role as hostess.
The other crew members all Freya, she is calm and diligent and a hard worker, but what they don’t know is that Freya has a secret and an ulterior motive for being on board.

To me, this is one of those middle-of-the-road books which is written well enough but I found the story a little weak and I didn’t really any of the characters. A lot of the happenings are unbelievable and manufactured. It all feels contrived. Sorry but it just didn’t work for me. 1 1 comment leyla ??25 1 follower

3.5 ?

The Take Down by Evie Hunter immerses readers into a world of betrayal, revenge, and hidden agendas set against the opulent backdrop of a superyacht. Freya Addison, the protagonist, is not just a diligent crew member—she’s a woman with a mission. Her calm exterior hides a burning desire for vengeance against Julian Falcon, the wealthy owner of the yacht who destroyed her family. As the story progresses, the layers of Freya’s vendetta against Julian are peeled back, adding depth to the narrative and keeping readers guessing about her true intentions.

While the premise of revenge fuels the plot, the novel’s pacing initially struggles to find its stride. The slow unraveling of Freya’s history with Julian adds to the suspense but may leave some readers craving more immediate action. Additionally, the abundance of characters and their interconnected subplots can feel overwhelming at times, making it challenging to keep track of everyone’s motivations and actions. Despite these initial hurdles, the story gains momentum as it progresses, drawing readers deeper into Freya’s world of deception and manipulation.

What sets The Take Down apart is its focus on character development over setting. While the luxurious setting of the superyacht provides an intriguing backdrop, it is the complex interplay between characters that drives the narrative forward. Through dialogue and introspection, readers gain insight into the minds of the main characters, particularly Freya, as they navigate the treacherous waters of revenge and betrayal. However, some readers may find certain plot developments to be somewhat contrived or unrealistic, detracting from the overall believability of the story. Despite these criticisms, The Take Down remains an entertaining read, offering a blend of suspense, drama, and intrigue that will keep readers engaged until the final page.

Thanks to NetGalley, Boldwood Books, and Evie Hunter for granting me this advanced review copy.

In The Takedown by EV Hunter we meet Faidra she is the new hostess on the yacht the Perseus. It is not a sporting yacht but a luxury yacht only built to impress others and that is exactly what owner Julian falcon wants. When he arrives with his left hand man Eddie and his flavor of the month Chelsea he has no idea she is on board and her job will only be done when she gets her revenge but what she doesn’t know is there is someone else on board who wants the same thing and it is captain Greg Larson. When they join forces it makes Phaedra feel better to know she has someone helping her with her plight. When Thaydra first came aboard chef Sandy immediately didn’t her in Sandy‘s mind she had laid claim to the captain but things get even more stranger when Sandy starts being nice to Phaedra. Things gets even more complicated long before they set foot in Ibiza and that is where they will find their best lead for taking down falcon he ruins anyone in his path but before it’s over someone is murdered. Is that it wasn’t complicated already Julian Faulkner thinks he recognizes Phaidra and that they’ve met before Will Phaedra and Greg find enough in time to take down the man who took so much from them or will he once again slither his way out the snake he is. I love the way despite how Chelsea acted Faidra was classy and even tried to look out for the ignorant young Golddigger. I thought her and Captain Greg made a great couple I was going to rate this book four stars but after the ending it is a definite five star read! I really enjoy EV hunters books I was guessing until the last page because at one point I really thought he was going to ruin himself this is such a great read and one I definitely recommend. My thanks to NetGalley, the publishers and the author for the ARC.
This review is based on my reading this book and is a honest, transparent feedback based on my experience of reading this book.

The story blurb was a great sounding revenge drama and I was looking forward to a well knit taut story. This was another of my experiments of trying books by new authors especially female writers who write in the Thriller, sci-fi & fantasy genre.

My appreciation for Evie that she has delivered a story with very well drawn out characters. The pace of the story is also frantic and the reader gets caught up in the pace. The characters especially the people who are pitted against the antagonist are well written but somehow the antagonist seems a little too two dimensional and everyone's enemy.

My biggest grouse against this book is that the story somehow lines up into Caesar's murder (Julius Caesar), meaning that almost everyone has a beef against the antagonist and somehow everyone seems to have infiltrated into the yacht. Considering that the yacht even a super one has limited space and a limited number of people who could work there and holiday in and so having so many of them colluding together was a difficult pill to digest. This made the overall plotline a little flimsy.

The best part about Evie's writing is that it made me read the story compulsively and for a large extent got me reaching towards the end. The story which has detailed so much could have done with a little more explosive takedown but overall this story is interesting and I would to read another book from her repertoire. The team has taken great pain in presenting a very well formatted and designed cover which along with the blurb forms a difficult combination for a prospective reader to resist. 2024 2024-netgalley fiction ...more16 s Ilana1,013

It is probably my third book by Evie Hunter. The Takedown, her latest, I was pleased to meet the same cast of bold main female character - Freya makes it into a very relatable character - caught in a net of deceiving weak and cruel manmade world. Feeling guilty for not saving her sister in due time, as she was falling slowly for her drug addiction, fuelled by the meeting with Falcon, a cruel oportunistic entrepreneur with way too many shades of black in his biography.

I was interested in Freya. but Falcon was a more complex presence. Particularly his family background - the troubles with his children particularly - makes you curious to understand his personality and eventually to find an explanation of his behavior and attitude. He is a bad character, with evil tendencies and an attitude that would only help him gain mortal enemies. Evil people may always run alone in the end.

Although the intentions of the characters are clear from the beginning of the book, it does not make it less suspenseful, as how exactly the revenge if ever, will take place guides the reader´s interest alongside the unfolding episodes of the book. Especially before the end of the story, everything went confusing and most assumptions about who´s who may got jeopardized.

The Takedown is a great weekend or vacation book, for readers interested in psychological suspense and, why not, playing the devil´s advocate in understanding some evil characters.

I was attracted by the cover and the storyline and really looked forward to this read, but it didn't quite deliver for me. Freya Addison has taken up a job as hostess on the luxury yacht Perseus, owned by rich businessman Julien Falcon. Falcon is a horrible character - arrogant, vicious and crooked. The story begins in the South of France when guests come aboard for a trip to Ibiza. Julien has no idea that Freya is on board to exact revenge for the death of her younger sister Polly. Little does she know there are others on board who also have issues with him.
This was one of those straightforward reads, well written but for me, it lacked real suspense. There were moments when I felt Freya would be discovered, but she seemed to have nine lives and slip out of danger quite easily. I thought both Freya and Captain Greg Larson's characters lacked depth and could have been developed more beyond just being attractive people. Julien was the best written character in the book - the archetypal boy from the backstreets who had made his money by dubious means. A truly nasty individual, he used people and threw them away - as he had Polly - in the most horrific way. His take down did not materialise as I thought it would, but overall I thought the story was entertaining..

This is a book that I can say is an absolute briliant summer read! I wish I was aboard Perseus with the sun beating down. That's how this book leaves you. I do enjoy an Evie Hunter tale. The fact that her settings always whisk me away so easily adds an extra layer to the experience.

The Takedown is a revenge thriller that totally caught me up, almost a whirlwind. The luxurious settings, the characters who are intriguing and multi layered. I couldn't get enough of this story. Freya is the main character who is only on Perseus for one reason, to take down the owner of the yacht, Julian Falcon!

I was so eager to discover everything about why and if Freya would succeed. As the plot unfolded and the details started to come out, it just fed my curiosity all the more. The fact that there were more people who it seemed would revel in his downfall made it all the more 'juicy' to read. I love a good revenge story!

A well-paced and as always excellently written book that I read far too fast for my liking. If you fancy a great read with dodgy characters and a luxurious setting, this is one to pick up!

There were quite a lot of characters to keep track of and quite a lot going on in this book. Freya has an ulterior motive for being on the luxury yacht. Freya is planning on getting her revenge on the yacht's owner, Julian Falcon. He had ruined her family's lives. The pace is steady, and the characters are well-developed. It's a quick and easy read. I wouldn't categorise it as a thriller, but it's still a good read.

The Takedown by Evie Hunter sadly this book did not pull me in her previous books but still a good quick read and great for your holidays or day off. This book was set on board the super yacht Perseus, which is moored in the glamorous harbour in Antibes, Freya Addison is settling into her new role as hostess

All the other crew members all Freya, she is calm and diligent and a hard worker, but what they don’t know is that Freya has a secret and an ulterior motive for being on board.

Revenge will be hers in the end.

Because Freya isn’t here to travel the world in style. She only has her sights set on one thing only, to bring down the owner of the yacht - the rich and arrogant Julian Falcon.

He is the man who ripped the heart out of Freya’s family. WoW............

Sadly this latest book had too many characters in which made it hard to follow sometimes. I got lost and bored following everyone to get to the main plot. But still; a ok read. Plus, to dream of being on the beautiful Yacht laying in the sun listening to the sea around you.......

This is my first book by this author. I was attracted by the cover and the blurb, taking me into the world of the rich and famous.

People can have different reasons for taking a job. One of the most important things about such job is that it gives you the opportunity to do what you love to do and earning money at the same time. Sometimes though the most important factor behind accepting a job is revenge.

Once again a book shows how money makes the world go round and some think they can do everything they or treat people the way they because they are rich. But one of these days, they come eye to eye with karma...

I enjoyed the book, but for me it was not really a thriller. The intrigue was good, I would have d a bit more pizzazz maybe.

Probably not entirely my cup of tea, but I am happy I had the opportunity to get to know the author's work. I would love to read another book in the future.

If you the world of the glitter and glamour, lies and deceit, this is the book for you. 4 stars

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing this book, with my honest review below.

The Takedown by Evie Hunter was a solid revenge thriller, following Freya, who has a very large axe to grind with the owner of the mega yacht she’s working on, Julian. With a need for revenge and no plan to back it up, we follow Freya as she gets to know Julian and his weak points better with a little help and sets out to destroy him.

This was an easy thriller to read and had some good twists to keep me hooked. I couldn’t fully click with this one, but all the elements needed were there. I think Freya’s need for revenge needed a bit more authenticity for me, but her plotting and finding some allies, as well as the story and the outcome with Julian, were all highly satisfying. If you thrillers I highly recommend it, but if you’re in the mood for more punitive revenge, set your expectations! Vicki - I Love Reading921 51

I have read and very much enjoyed most of the books by this author. What a very talented writer she is. The Takedown takes us on one hell of a ride.
Freya has a new job. Freya has taken on this job to seek revenge, closure, retribution. What Fraya doesn't realise is when she takes on this job she won't be alone in seeking out truth.
Freya's new job is on the superyacht Perseus. Once they set sail Fraya is stuck at see and while working can work out her plan. Not everything will be 'plain sailing'
There will be turbulence along the way and for some when they have so much to lose they have no fear of others.
Secrets, lies and revenge - on a Yacht. What could possibly got wrong?

Bravo Evie Hunter, another exceptional read. A good pace through out and interesting storyline.1 L.S.760 27

If Julien Falcon had known that week that taking the super yacht to Ibiza would see him surrounded by more enemies than he could count, he might well have made a different decision. But that would not have been as much fun. What with his complete arrogance and the number of secrets harboured by his staff and guests a, he didn't stand a chance.
The Takedown is a revenge "thriller" which rattles along at a good pace. Much of the story is told through dialogue and introspection which gives the reader a good idea of how the main characters are thinking and therefore why they react the way they do. That said, I found it a tad repetitive in the way Freya's motive for revenge, in particular, was addressed. Added to that, though, was the crazy number of staff members and guests on board the yacht that had it in for Julien - it struck me as unrealistic that all those elements would converge together in the same place at the same time. This doesn't take away from the fact that it is an entertaining read, although it could have been set anywhere given the focus on character over setting.
A quick, enjoyable read. 3.5 stars from me, and thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood for my copy which I've reviewed honestly and voluntarily. Marija537 43

Evie Hunter's "The Takedown" is an enthralling revenge thriller that had me hooked from the get-go. The protagonist, Freya, is on a relentless quest to topple the affluent and smug Julian Falcon. Her fierce resolve is contagious, and I found myself cheering her on. Set against the opulent backdrop of the Perseus yacht, the plot thickens with each page, ensnaring me in its complex web of duplicity. The characters are compelling, each shrouded in mystery with their agendas.
The narrative is masterfully woven with twists that kept me in suspense until the end. The yacht's luxury adds a touch of glamour to the tale, making it an irresistible page-turner. "The Takedown" is a riveting blend of tension, drama, and mystery, ensuring readers stay captivated by the last word. It's a stellar contribution to the genre of suspense thrillers and convoluted revenge narratives. Hats off to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing this ARC.20243 s Priscilla144 10

Freya Addison is in her new job as hostess on the superyacht Perseus. Everyone thinks she is a hard worker, but they don’t know why Freya is really there. Freya has taken this job to get revenge on the yacht’s owner, Julian Falcon, who ruined her family’s life. Will she get the revenge she wants, or is he on to her?
The Take Down was a combination of “Below Deck” meets “CSI”! Julian was a very unlikable character – conniving, despicable, greedy – everything you would expect in a mystery about a rich yacht owner! Revenge is a great motive and a great theme for a thriller. There were lots of twists that sucked me in – it was a fast read with a satisfying conclusion and highly recommended!

In The Takedown we explore the glitz and glamour of being rich through lies and deceit. Freya has taken a job aboard a yacht but it isn't the job she is after, it is revenge in it's most sneaky form. The more I read the more invested I became and I was wanting to get involved. The plot is gloriously built up to a explosive ending. I actually really d the characters as they play there parts well and are just what you expect. The revenge is addictive and I could feel Freya's need to enact it through the tips of my fingers. It gets to you in a way that you feel you want revenge for yourself! The glamorous lifestyle on the yacht is one I could picture and I loved exploring. Overall it's a great book of the rich. A revenge thriller following the story of Freya Antonia seeking both revenge and justice avoided a super yacht. In Antibes, Freya has joined the crew of the Perseus as a hostess. She’s well d by the other crew members by it they are unaware she has a secret and an ulterior motive for being aboard. Freya isn’t here to travel the world, she has her sights set on one goal and that is to bring down her employer, Julien Falcon. The man who destroyed her family. A pacy well written thriller with some twists thrown in, I would rate this book 3.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and the author for the chance to review. Michelle262 1 follower

When Freya gets a hostess job on a super luxury yacht, everybody aboard begins to wonder why she gave up a very lucrative job in a country home, or did she?
Julien Falcon, the owner of the super yacht, is used to getting his own way. By throwing money at it, he invites some associates onboard, and the men talk business. What is going on? There is more than one member of staff onboard who holds a grudge, but who and why? Can Freya trust anybody on board, or does she have more in common with some of them than she realises. Loved it. Not everything is as it is portrayed. Definately recommend mrsbookburnee Niamh Burnett683 17
