I received this book in the mail and was immediately intrigued by the synopsis. So lemme tell y’all what had happened sans spoilers.

The story centers around the lives of three people: Al, a semi-retired molecular biologist; his wife Mamie, a retired school teacher; and their “adopted” daughter Lillian, a young pediatric resident. Pause. Let’s get into all this #blackexcellence cuz I am here for it. The setting of the book is during a global pandemic. It’s RonaMae’s cousin y’all and ain’t ish changed cuz people are still not wanting to wear a damn piece of fabric. Errbody is on lockdown but things stores are open. And of course, Lillian is dealing with all the trauma at the hospital. She is staying with Al and Mamie during her residency because it is closer to the hospital but is doing everything to decontaminate before interacting with them. NTway…because of the selfishness of others (cough *privilege* cough), they are impacted by this deadly virus and the ish hits the fan.

It is soooo hard to really get into this review without giving spoilers but the book was so incredibly intriguing. Put it this way…a biologist, a virus and a mission. Whew chile! My heart was beating fast. That’s all I can say.

My favorite thing about the book was that it was the virus itself was its own character in pieces of the book. How the virus is transmitted is told from the POV of the virus. Y’all this book has me looking at everyone side eye that isn’t wearing a mask. Because the book is a medical thriller, it has a lot of biological terminology. It raised my IQ. I’m a whole doctor now. #ISWIS

The beginning has a lot of background. Once you get into the story, you will NOT be able to put it down.
