This was such a fun book. This is a quick read and the perfect companion to Jayne’s Sense & Irritability. I loved the backstory of Martin and Trinity and how their interactions fit into the first book with Trinity’s sister, Savannah and Ian.

Martin is first and foremost an amazing friend to Ian, but boy did you get to see what a grade-A meddler he is in this book. His shenanigans in the first book are nothing compared to this one! He is totally a behind-the-scenes fixer!

Jayne’s unique creativity has opened my eyes to yet another discipline that I didn’t previously know existed, somatic therapy. Trinity’s quirky research chickens are totally the comedic relief in this book. And kudos to Martin for fully embracing her plucky poultry!

I feel their ILY might have been a little rushed, but I loved how well Trinity reacted to finding out about all of Martin’s well intentioned manipulations. Clearly his love language is acts of service!

I’m not sure how loose an interpretation these two stories are of Sense & Sensibility, but I found them both wonderfully enjoyable! Totally recommend

An Austen-esque enemies to lovers story with some great twists!

I love Jane Austen (fave of all-time), so when a beloved author of mine comes out with an Austen-twist series, I’m all over it! Jayne’s “Austen in Austin” series couldn’t be any better… unless the books were longer. That’s literally the only thing I could ask for from Emma Lee Jayne, is more story!

I thought it was going to be impossible to surpass the first book, Sense & Irritability, but Pretense & Sensibility has done it! These two books basically happened concurrently, with this one sort of starting a little before and running a little after book 1 (so, hard to read this without book 1). It helps fill in a couple extra details from the couple in the first book, Ian and Savannah.

Book 2 is Ian’s best friend and lawyer, Martin, who hired Savannah to be his live-in chef in the first book, and Trinity, Savannah’s little sister. The pair meets in an awful, awkward meet-disaster at his grandmother’s dimentia care-home where Trinity is a volunteer PhD student therapist with her support chickens (yes, chickens), and they later get stuck in an elevator after she’s met with her father’s estate lawyers and mentions her sister’s job issues after their father’s death - hence getting her the job with Ian that happens both now, and in book 1.

Martin and Trinity keep having disastrous run-ins - him constantly being a grump and her being the happy-go-lucky, decade younger, chicken-toting therapist who has difficulty getting her life together. They’re a completely mismatched, opposites attract pair that have to play nice when Ian and Savannah are getting married in Belize and they have to travel together.

I loved every word of this book, finding all of the links between the two books (and going back to double check), and most especially when everything just comes together and it all clicks. Because we all know the story of sense & sensibility and generally how this one is going to go! It’s so worth the ride, and you all need to pick it up! I first discovered Jayne from Smartypants Romance and I’m glad I’ve found her other titles, so if you’re a fan I am or if you’re just looking to see if this Austen inspired title is for you, it definitely is.

A quick and easy opposites attract romance story. Throw in the tropes of an age gap, enemies to lovers with the cutest support animals and you have a cute with some spice storyline. It was a lovely read but the only thing I felt was the ending was rushed.
