Once again, Mari Fables is on the hunt to solve a storybook problem. Except this time, she’s super pregnant and trying to find who is in what story without the storybook aura and the protection of the Hood. Together with Scarlett, will she be able to figure this mystery out before her baby arrives?

Book 5 takes place a couple of years after book 4. A lot has happened, but not much has happened at the same time. When I say I’ve been waiting for this book since the day the 4th one released, I’m not even exaggerating. Emily Fluke has captivated me by the way she’s able to write these cozy mysteries where moms are totally amazing and real life moms with real life mom things going on. I read this book way too fast and will now be waiting on the next one until it’s written. And the cliffhanger to this one? Phew. It’s even more intense than the last one. 1 Hallie96

Mari once again is up against the story aura taking over residents of San Francisco, and once more it settles close to home. Since becoming the Keeper of Stories Mari had been going nonstop in her job, family life, and of course her secret magical life sealing stories. This time not only is she pregnant with a baby no doctor believes exists, her marriage is getting rocky, her friend & resource to the story realm is hiding something, and murder finds itself on her doorstep once again. Poor Mari just can’t catch a break even when she thinks she has one.
In the fifth installment of the Mari Fable mysteries author Emily Fluke weaves a tale of frustration, heartbreak, and of course mystery. Fluke is great at making a magical world feel relatable. There maybe classic story characters running around trying to bring their tales to life but you still need to pick up your kid from elementary school. Fluke also knows how to create stories that leave you wanting more. Sure the case is wrapped up but of course that doesn’t mean there isn’t more to the story. Emily Fluke is an incredible writer that shows just because you have some kids doesn’t mean your old life is left behind. Emily never misses! This installment was more suspenseful, and definitely kept me guessing who was which character throughout the book! Mari's pregnancy was relatable, but with a twist. Her relationship with Kai gets interesting. The plot was intense, and I was shaking and near tears at one point. However, I'm super excited to see what unique adventure awaits in the next book!
