I hadn't realized this was part of a series when requesting this book, and I think I would have been better able to connect with the characters had I read these other books.
I d the characters and thought the mystery was thorough and engaging. I was invested from the first chapter when we first glimpsed the mystery. It gave me serious Scooby Doo vibes with our group of mystery solvers, and how the mystery itself played out.

I would be interested in reading the other books in the series and any future books.4 s Annarella13.2k 143

One of those book that I enjoy because there's friendship and collective intelligence. Well plotted, solid mystery.
Recommended.

Emma Higsby and her friends return to unravel another mystery in the latest installment in The Dinswood Chronicles, The Hampton House Mystery, by Ellen Alexander.

It’s summer vacation, and Emma is eager to join Martha and Sebastian’s families glamping, especially when she learns Doug will be joining them. While eating at the local cafe, the teens learn about a house in Clearwater that is said to be haunted. When their curiosity leads them to investigate, not only do they find more than anticipated, they don’t know until it’s too late how much danger they have put themselves in.

For tween and teen readers, this engaging mystery along the same veins as Nancy Drew and with a slight dose of the Scooby animated mysteries, is a great read. The fourth book in The Dinswood Chronicles finds Emma and her friends away from Dinswood Academy. They have gone on a glamping trip over the summer, where they have learned about a haunted house, whose history is too intriguing not to investigate.

Little do they know what they have stumbled upon. And when they agree to help their new friend, Sandy, who has ties to the house, the danger kicks up a notch. As they learn more about Isaac Hampton and the residents who came after him, they stumble across a secret that could prove deadly for all of them. Older readers may also enjoy the romance that unfolds alongside the investigation. Though this is the fourth book in the series, it stands alone… even if you enjoy it so much you want to go back and read the earlier books.

The Hampton House Mystery is such a different read than the genres that I’ve been reading lately, and it is a breath of fresh air! I was needing something different to spice up my reading log, and this hit the literary spot.

As an adult reading this book it’s clear by the language that the target audience is early adolescence, but honestly it brought back fond memories of the kind of books I was into at that age, and instead of being annoyed I felt nostalgic. I had Nancy Drew and Scooby Doo vibes the entire time I was reading, and I love that so much, but the friendship group is really what endeared me to this story the most, especially as I paralleled it to my own children and their peers. Not that I would want their friend group to get into any mischief the group does in this novel, but I love the camaraderie and how they look out for one another.

The mysterious vibe is heavy from the beginning but when the suspense kicked in is when it really got good. I didn’t put the book down until I read the happy conclusion and actually had a little grin on my face. This is a novel that is geared towards a young audience, but this adult reader enjoyed it a lot more than she thought she would. It captures the imagination and takes the reader on quite the suspenseful ride, while giving fleshed out characters, all amid a picturesque lakeside backdrop. It doesn’t get much better than that!

*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through LibraryThing Early Reviewers. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.2024 reviewed Rachael Hamilton140 3

This book is part of an action- adventure series called the Dinswood Chronicles but I didn’t feel as though I needed to read the others in the series to know what was happening in this one to know what was going on. Much a Nancy Drew or a Hardy Boys, we are presented with a group of teens on summer vacation when the group stumble across a new mystery to solve.

I love a feel-good, whirlwind murder mystery without a lot of risk and quite a lot of payoff. Emma, our main character, returns to the pages with her friends to help solve another mystery. This time, there is a possibly haunted house, lights in the dark, and a family that vanished in the middle of the night.

I can see this book as a Scooby Doo caper, where we are running around, hiding in the woods, and uncovering a secret plot. I had a lot of fun with it and since it does fall into the YA category, I was able to give it some grace that I may not give to an adult thriller/ suspense.

Very cute and fun and I now want to read more from the Dinswood Chronicles and further dive into the antics of Emma and her friends. Abibliophilesconfessions31
