The thing I most appreciated about The Heir was that this is enemies-to-lovers romance didn't have any unnecessary, or forced, angst. What it did have was natural conflict, plenty of passion and an engaging plot. The chemistry between Thor and Linea was scorching, and I loved how they fought their feelings, convinced they shared a mutual dis of one another.

These protagonists were well rounded, believable and easy to connect with and I soon found myself invested in their emerging relationship and feelings for one another. The dynamics of their upbringing gave the story extra depth and meaning. Whilst both have a Motlander mother and N'man father (I loved the NoMo's moniker) each has been raised in a very different culture. However they still had plenty of common ground, and more similarities than even they perhaps realised.

I would have preferred it had the relationship timeline been a little longer, or we had seen more of them thinking about (obsessing over?) one another in the period between the beach encounter and the trip to France. Whilst I wouldn't call it insta-love, things did feel a smidgen rushed. However the setting of the International Summit restricted the time period available, so I understand why the author made the choices she did.

Information about previous couples, and the opportunity to catch up with them, was cleverly woven into the story. There was also careful laying of groundwork for the final, and much anticipated, book featuring Freya and Victor.arc dystopian enemies-to-lovers ...more12 s Rhonda Hicks4,183 74

'The Heir' is the fourteenth book in Elin Peer's "Men of the North" series and it's just as mentally and emotionally captivating as the first book, 'The Protector'. If you're a fan of the series, I am, then you've watched Thor, son of leader Khan Aurelius, grow up. He's had it drilled into him since he was a toddler that he was the heir and future leader of the Northmen. He didn't ask for the position and sometimes the pressure is so much he can barely breathe and yet he has a defensive arrogance to his personality. Linea's father is a Northman who relocated to the Motherland after meeting Linea's mother, so that's where she's lived her entire life. This series comes so close to the truths of our past and what could happen in our future it's riveting. The mental and emotional push and pull between Thor and Linea, along with the pressure of differing societies and values kept me on a rollercoaster of emotions to be honest. Elin Peer has a writing style that pulls me in and makes me feel as if I'm part of the story, not just a placid bystander. There's only one more book left which made this one all the more poignant for me. You don't want to miss this one, for sure!!

This is yet another book in a wonderful series about an imaginary future world when there have always been tensions between the northern and southern countries, but with a continued addition of France in the mix of countries learning to relate to each other. I d the author dealing with the tensions between genders and the tensions between countries. I especially d the continued effort to explain a great solution to these tensions - the chance for the children to get to know each other and learn together, which started in earlier books and continues as they get older in this book and are responsible for some negotiations between the countries. There is some romance, which always helps me keep interested in novels of this sort. But I ESPECIALLY d the list of characters at the beginning of the book, which helped me keep all the characters straight from previous books in the series. It was really helpful. I highly recommend this book and the whole series.1 Wendy827 122

d the story. Better understanding of Thor and Victor. The heroine is patient and kind.
Don’t love listening to the French accents but I understand they are necessary.
If you haven’t read about the men of the north, don’t start here! Start with book 1 or the prequel.

Thor finally got the love hammer up side the head!!!
After fourteen books I still love every second of reading about The Men Of The North.

Thor and Linea are both products of NoMo breading but from opposite sides of the border. She’s a healer and a energy worker. He is destined to rule the Northlands but the pressure from everyone around him gets to be to much.

“I just need to figure out how I can be that man without feeling the burden of the pressure to be perfect.”

This opposites attract is a perfect edition to this spectacular series. These characters have captured my heart and will still be there long after this series ends.

If I climbed to her window, surely Linea would see how much she meant to me. It was unly that she was in her room, but I could wait for her.2 s Karin2,172

Thor and Lineas story was one that I was hooked on. These two are friends until Thor finally wakes up and starts seeing her in a different light but her attention might not be as easy to grab as it once was. I adored every aspect of this book and even though I’ve read most of the series each one is just as good as the last one.1 Marianne W99 5

Once again, Elin Peer has managed to write a real page turner.
This fourteenth and penultimate book in the series "The Men of The North" enchants as always.
This time it's about Thor (Khan and Pearl's son), who feels a certain pressure on his shoulders, as he has to take over when Khan, who is the Ruler dies, and how Thor fights with many issues.
We also hear about Linea, who is the daughter of Finn, one of the men from The North and Athena who is Priestress in The Motherland. Linea has inherited some of Athena's gifts, such as tracking people, and she is summoned to The North, when Thor has disappeared, albeit of his own free will. Linea has a bit of a hard time saying yes to the offer because Thor made fun of her abilities at a summer camp nine years ago. At that time, Linea had a crush on Thor.
The way Elin Peer writes make the persons that I read about gets under my skin, and I feel I'm a part of the book.
So if you have not read this amazing series, then just get started.1 Kat Hall124 6

When you are young and in line to the throne, there is immense pressure. You are relegated to acting and thinking a certain way. What happens when you want progress for the future and not to live in the old ways? When your father, the ruler, says no to any forward thinking. How much toll does it take? How do you deflect that pressure and the weight of the world sitting on your shoulders? Will running away and hiding help to ease that pressure and weight? Thor has a heavy burden and for his peace of mind, he chooses to run and hide without telling anyone that he was leaving.
Linnea has the ability to track people using energy and emotions. Her family and Thor’s family are close. When asked by his family to find him, it takes Linnea back in time when Thor made fun of her gift of using energy. Her crush on him was shattered and since then, she avoided going to the Northlands to visit even though it is her father’s homeland. Her mother is a Motlander and the priestess and they live there.
Linnea is able to track Thor and he is furious with her for finding him. He isn’t ready to go back. He threatens her if she tells anyone where he is. She respects that; says she will let his family know he is fine. Then his father, the ruler, gives an ultimatum. Either come home or he will make his sister the heir to the throne. She is the genius and is better suited to dealing with being the ruler. Linnea is only the messenger but she gets through to Thor and she has one request. Thor is hot-headed and Linnea is cool and calm and diffuses intense situations. Thor will grant her request if she does one specific thing for him. Opposites attract and sparks fly. What does it take for Thor to understand that Linnea is the right person to be by his side?
Elin Peer knows how to resolve conflicts between people and countries. Reading her books is getting counseling and insight into finding resolutions for everyday problems. I love this series as it resonates with the world today and what can happen in the future if we don’t address these problems now.

When emotions run deep…it’s harder to face up to them

This series has never disappointed me and I am sorry to say that there is only one more to go. This novel is the perfect lead in to the last since both lead men are so similar in character but quite different in social and political outlook.

Thor is the heir in the Northlands and expected to follow in his father’s leadership footsteps and yet he struggles with not having established his own identity worthy of respect. Who is he really, behind the arrogant facade? Only one woman becomes sensitive to his inner turmoil.

Linea has special skills of her own that Thor comes up against but can they work in her favor to help resolve her own emotional roll-coaster when it comes to Thor and help him to reconcile with Khan, his father?

I love how Elin Peer can bring intriguing and time appropriate concepts to her writing such as developing one’s ability to read another's energy and thus know what they are possibly thinking. I also could appreciate the discussion at the fourth summer summit regarding the need for religion vs acknowledging something greater than oneself through spirituality. These are concepts I feel more of us will be pondering in the near future. There will be more open exchange among alternate cultures just at these summits. But, by all means, this is not the focus of this engrossing novel although different aspects of relationship come into play. Love is always a major factor and its place in our lives and in society.

Elin Peer’s well-crafted novels of Men of the North take us into the future and allow us to see the past – our present – and some ly future scenarios. While thought provoking, they are very entertaining and you get to know some wonderful characters along the way. I highly recommend them all.

Review of The Heir – Men of the North series book 14 by Elin Peer

And it is still one of the most original, fascinating, series of books out there. Our future as it could be. You get so drawn in to the books that the sense that this could happen in our future seems so real. We have known about Thor for many years, his father is one of the original Nmen. Thor has known what his future was since the day he was born, that’s what happens when you are the air to Khan Aurelius. He didn’t ask for that position but the pressure has been so much that he can barely breathe. Lanea has lived in the motherland her whole life. Although her father is a north man he moved to the motherland to be with her. She has a very strong personality she gets from her father, and the calmness and forgiveness she gets from her mother. All we see is how much Khan and Lanae dis each other, at least outwardly. Thor has hurt her feelings more time then we can count and she is over it, or is she. Follow along in this book the difficulties of their relationship and how two completely different people brought up completely different can make a relationship work. The world is a different place, and still in the future it is not to easy to stay true to yourself and find love. One more book in the series and it will be over. I have an overwhelming sense of sadness to see this end. We have seen Thor and Lanea grow up from babies to being part of something that could make the world a better place. And now they are grown and still trying to make the world a better place as much their generation can. Awesome series, but to do it justice you must read it from the beginning in order. What goes on in this particular story is the fact that it has reached the finale of the series. It is saddening to see it happen, yet after reading this story, it is understandably why it has come to an end. This story involves scenarios that this reader found intriguing. Tatoos on the forehead, the sign of a priestess, a sign of wisdom. Reading of the minds minds, giving sight to the blind. The decision that a father has to make to name a new heir is between his son or daughter to name an heir. Read the story for the father’s decision.
Thor didn’t need much, All he wanted was isolation. Linea has a special gift. She holds both contempt and desire for Thor yet she also thinks that Thor is rude and obnoxious. Thor calls Linea a witch and wants to find out if she is bi-polar. While visiting France for The Summit, Linea and Thor stay at the Blue Tower. Thor and Linea become jealous of each other’s company. It all begins with a solitary kiss and a spanking. Is this a love hate relationship, read the book to find out. You will be very surprised.

The future ruler of the Northmen Thor is not happy and has gone off on his own without telling anyone and his father has sent one of the healers from the Motherland to find him, Linea used to have a crush on Thor until she didn't and now she thinks she is over him and can deal with whatever he dishes out but they both are in for a surprise when he threatens to do something she actually thinks she will probably but will not tell him as much and then he sends her away and his father sends her back sometime later when he givens him an ultimatum, Thor is going through more than he has told his family but he tells his father some good news and he tells his father about Linea and what he wants. The group goes off to France for the yearly conference and all kinds of things happen while they are there and when they come back. The storyline is intriguing and the characters are very interesting. Drama, suspense, some mystery, and love. Enjoyed this book. I received an ARC via BookFunnel without obligation. I volunteered an honest review. Reva Parks1,609 10

This is the fourteenth of fifteen books about a future world after the Toxic War. Three separate and distinct cultures have each been sending five ly leaders of the future to an annual meeting to gain an understanding of each other. Thor, son of Khan and future ruler of the North listens to his sister tell him the reason he hates Victor, the French genius, is because they are so a as the result of the great expectations that have pressured them both since childhood. As much as he hates to be compared to Victor, he listens because Lenea has hated that same defensive arragance in himself. A great awakening happens to Thor in this book when he puts down these offputting defenses and opens himself to love. I was moved to tears when he came to an understanding with his father. Many of us have yearned for a word of praise from a parent. Peer's books are full of these common life paradigms. I recommend all of Peer's books! Bookworm_Bea115 6

5 stars *****

In Elin Peer’s latest book, “The Heir”, two personalities collide, a proud man who cannot accept differences and a strong woman who wants to be accepted for her skills.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: Thor Aurelius and Linea have completely opposite personalities. Thor Aurelius is arrogant, opinionated and is a know-all. He always dismisses the feelings of others and often undermines Linea when they were young. He found her skills fanciful and fictitious. Years later, Linea is a young woman who has extraordinary skills recognised by millions . With the energy, she is able to locate people. Furthermore, she has a fantastic ability to analyse people. As the Heir of the Northlands, Thor is increasingly struggling with the pressure of being perfect and to meet the requirement to be married. Additionally, he feels that he is never listened by his father, the ruler of the Northlands. Often, his ideas are dismissed by the latter. Feeling, enough is enough, Thor decided to escape from this constant pressure and his critics and run far away. However, Linea is sent to find him and bring him back.

Overall Opinion: These two characters are a fantastic mix together. Not only do they clash in terms of personality, but at times they perfectly complement each other. They are the classic example of opposites attracting. The more I progressed in the book, the more Thor and Linea were able to work and support each other. I really this side of their story.

Closure: Another battle in this futuristic world of Elin Peer, where freedom, peace and love are at stake. Everyone in the North of Men series believe their views are correct. Both of the main characters have one parent from Northland and Motherland, both are brought up in two different countries with different values and thoughts. Yet despite their differences, they manage to find each other. This is a great chemistry that Elin has created.2021 elin-peer enemies-to-lovers ...more PROAM61 1 follower

Elin Peer's, THE HEIR, of the Men of the North series is worth your time to read. It's Thor's story, the son & heir to Khan's Northland empire. If you haven't been following the series, you really need to begin at the beginning. Thor is buckling under the pressures of learning his job as the next ruler of the Northlands. And he's struggling to become the man he's meant to be. When he reconnects with Linea, a childhood friend, their feelings for each other slowly becomes apparent. In their story we travel to 3 very different countries and reconnect with many colorful past characters. As in Elin's prior books, it's very easy to lose yourself in the story. The world building is wonderful. The characters believable. It's time you read this book & the series. It's so easy to give it a 5 star. Linda3,954

Trust Ms. Peer to give her readers another phenomenal addition to The Men of the North series!

Khan's son Thor has been groomed from a young age to become Ruler of the Northlands! It surely has been stressful! He feels a failure most times. Is this something he wants? Well, he's going to do some soul searching to figure that out!

Linea works with energy. From a young age, she's crushed over Thor. Until one summit in particular. Uh oh!

What happens when Linea is asked to find Thor? Well, read to find out! I think you'll really enjoy finding out!

I loved this story, and really just did not get enough!

I received an advanced reader copy, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

A descendant from rulers of the Northlands, Thor Aurelius is the next ruler, but with this knowledge comes a lot of responsibility, pressure and unwanted attention. So, to escape all the wagging tongues, Thor flees to a beach in the Motherlands for some tranquility. But sparks and words fly when Thor’s tranquility is disturbed by Linea, sent by Khan his father, to track him down and bring him home to do his duty that he has been groomed for. Thor and Linea’s story are about two opposites, but they also complement each other. Linea is the calm to Thor’s storm and she also sees the man behind the ego. Elin Peer has delivered another captivating page turner with familiar characters, family drama, emotions and romance. Lupe McClan31 2
