This was a lot of fun. A raccoon, Joey, whacked-out on bath salts by a couple of low level scientists. what could go wrong? Well, plenty. This story boasts an extremely high body count and does not skimp on the gore. The characters are very surface-level, but were fine. The dialogue between Heather and Britney was fairly hard to believe, as I don’t think high school girls speak exactly the boys do, if you get my drift. Not sure I’ve read any book where the girls talk about ‘dick’ as much as this duo did. So a bit of a stretch, but this story was meant to be as comedic as it was a creature feature, so that didn’t necessarily work against itself. And, boy oh boy, did the finale make up for any shortcomings in the story. It goes fairly big, which I loved. I also really enjoyed the single section where the POV shifted to Joey and wish there was more of that. Maybe have some fun internal monologue, ala the raccoons from The Great Outdoors. I also wanted to see more variety in the verbiage, as there were quite a few repeats throughout, specifically ‘red liquid’ and comparing intestines to spaghetti. But I had a good time and hope to go through more of his works, especially if they’re as enjoyable as this.34 s4 comments Stitching Ghost897 166

Bath Salt Raccoon is exactly what its title seems to imply, chaotic, unhinged and drenched in blood plus there's raccoons, an entirely uncalled for amount of raccoons. It's an entertaining read which at times reads almost a buddy comedy with an aside of evisceration (and I think we can all agree that all buddy comedies would be improved by a side of violent disembowelment). Absolutely recommend it if you're looking for you daily dose of unhinged. 15 s4 comments E.C. HansonAuthor 15 books40

While there are no surprises here, you don't read a book called bath salt raccoon for the prose or character depth. It was exactly what I wanted it to be.3 s Holly86 45

I love the idea, and there was a lot of gore, which was fun. It's overall a great read, but there were some issues for sure. The author clearly doesn't know how teen girls have conversations. The representation of women wasn't great, and could have been researched a bit more. At times it seemed it was written by a 14 year old boy just based on how much focus there was on genitals, and jokes about genitals. It was very juvenile in that way, and I get that horror has that sometimes, but this was just overly focused on that. Also there was some inconsistencies with "science" and how things went down that really didn't make sense with the plot. Using gore to cover plot holes and hoping the reader won't notice is a shame, because it is noticed. I wouldn't discount this author, and would give another book a try in 10 or 15 years when they grow up a little. Positives were that it was descriptive, fast paced, and fun if you just look past those other small issues.

I love Mario and Josh. Even though they pumped a raccoon full of bath salts, come on…they were just trying to cure rabies. Right? Their banter throughout the book was hilarious. And obviously all of the gore and limbs being ripped off by Super Saiyan raccoons was pretty gnarly as well.

10/10 would recommend!
