Lily Hanniford has all the qualities an impoverished nobleman could want in a wife. She's beautiful educated and funny. Too bad, she's an American with a shrewd Father, but she's unwilling to be sold to the highest ranking nobleman. She wants a purpose in life. Then she accidentally meets a man she can't resist. Julian Ash, Marquees of Chelton, doesn't need a wife. He needs luck at cards or at least a way to persuade Killian Hanniford to pay more for his family's shipping line however Lily is charming and her wild streak appeals to Jillian who has always followed society's rules. He now discovers that being with Lily isn't only fun it's necessary to his life and she is too. As they struggle to throw convention to the wind can they also be wildly happy together if they can't heal old wounds? Wow this book is incredible. How they overcome their problems to find love. What can I say Cerise DeLand knows how to write an exquisite novel that will leave you salivating for more. I enjoyed reading every word of it and I'm sure you will as well.2 s Margaret Watkins3,055 68

This well-written novel captured me and drew me in from the opening pages, making it difficult for me to put it down. The plot took me on a roller-coaster of emotions as Lily and Julian walked the rocky path between family expectations and the censure of society. Certainly, Julian had more than his fair share of dysfunctional, spiteful family members and it really is a wonder that he and Lily actually managed to get to the altar. I found that my feelings were engaged throughout as the author skilfully wove a plot of tragedy and betrayal to a place of peace and reconciliation. Julian's shame at having to marry an heiress was understandable, but little did he realize that all Lily really wanted was his heart. I loved the way in which Julian saw Lily's strength of character, her compassion, and her need for freedom of movement, and then did what he could to cater to those needs. I also felt for him as he had to go against decades of training to make a stand against the despicable behavior of his family members. Thankfully the novel does come to a delightful and heartwarming conclusion, bringing Julian and Lily the desires of their hearts. I received a copy of this novel as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review. 2 s Vania Nunes2,206 47

Beautiful, wild and extremely rich. Lily Hanniford wanted to have a chance to choose her own husband.
She knew the fame she had because of her father's wealth.
Along with her 9-year-older widow cousin, Marianne Roland, Lily meets the man in Paris who has been tormenting the business side of his father, Julian Ash, Marquess of Chelton.

Julian was the son of one of the directors of a large shipping company with financial problem. Julian's father, Duke of Selton, had a reputation for being an inveterate gambler.
Killian Hanniford, as the good dealer he was, wanted to make sure he'd buy the company at the best moment ... for him. And when her daughter, Lily, says she had met the Marquess, when he was the hero on a street in Paris, the occasion could not have been better.

Julian was amazed at Lily's way. She was definitely not the most beautiful woman he had ever met, but her voice, her hair and her eyes left him unarmed.

Months ahead they meet again in London when Lily enjoyed her season and she and her father were invited to the opera by Julian's neighbor, Lord Carbury.

Lily tries in every way to escape from Julian's charm, but for some reason they always met, and the attraction could not be denied.

But even if Julian succeeded in his intention, namely to have Lily just for him, he was not prepared to have a wife full of opinion and who didn't want to be just a lady to serve the noble halls. Lily wanted to make a difference in people's lives, and with that, Julian realizes too late that to be by his side, he would have to learn to let Lily flap her wings ...

A historical novel with a different ending.
The true sense of knowing the time to take and even more, the time to release..

Fantastic read very much loved this book and can't wait to read more, was honoured to receive this book as an arc for review and utterly loved it.

As always I will not give spoilers there are teasers in the blurb, what I will say is that I loved this book very much, were taken on a far journey and adventure with many twists and turns at a fantastic pace, it was easy to fully connect with the characters and iadmit there are a few in here I would love to meet at dawn and run through for being despicable and others I wept with in joy aswell as dispair. It is easy to get engrossed and escape into the world Cerise has set as the story plays out and I cant wait to read more in future.

Thank you Cerise for writing this beautiful book and giving me the chance to read it xxx1 Angela2,018 11

The relationship between Julian and Lily is wonderfully portrayed in this book. No, it is not insta-love and that is what I really d about the story. Over time they come to the realization that even though they have setbacks and crazy mothers in their lives, they love each other.

Looking forward to the other stories in this series.

I received a complimentary copy from the author.

Wild Lily, Book 1 of Those Notorious Americans series, was about Miss Lily Hanniford, eldest daughter of the American millionaire, Mr. Killian "Black Irish" Hanniford, and Lord Julian Ash, the Marquess of Chelton.
While the beginning of this book was a very slow-moving story and, even though it was a mere 18 chapters, the slow pace made it feel ever so much longer. Even the verbiage was sluggish and hard to plow through. While the book took place at the end of the 1800s, the attitude of the characters was more of a person living in the early 1980s. The whole atmosphere of the book was way too relaxed and lenient for the time period.
When Julian and Lily met twice in Paris, they were attracted to each other, but neither acted on it. He was determined not to marry, while she only wanted to marry for love. Julian had a hard time believing in love because the only example he had, that of his parents, was not a good one. And yet, he did not want to marry for money either. For her part, Lily did not want someone to marry her for her large dowry or her father's money.
A statement I've heard most of my life pretty much sums up how this book made me feel is, "Holy guacamole, Batman!" This book changed so much, so fast. Now, yes, it was a slow-moving story, but with all of the twists and turns, it felt I was going to suffer whiplash. Un most romance stories, this book had so many changes that you were never certain where the author was going with the storyline. It was definitely an unusual book.
The angst and drama were off the chart high. The romance was a bit lacking though. Sure there was an attraction and a bit of passion, but it took a long time to make an appearance. The characters, while well developed, left much to be desired. Julian was a bit of a dunce throughout the book. Although he was a strong character, he still let others push him around for a lot of the book. But he did finally find a backbone, but was it too late?
Lily was a strong character, too. She didn't let others bully her or push her around...much. She definitely had a backbone, and she let everyone know it. A bit unusual for the time period. The ending of the story was definitely done wrong as it ended too abruptly. It just...petered out in a very flat manner.
It was a good story. It had all the emotions one would expect for such a book. However, it was not worthy of a five-star rating or to be added to the Keeper for the Shelves collection. Lori D3,922 115

This was a wonderful story that grabbed me quickly from the first page to the last! Lily Hanniford,an American has come to Paris with her cousin Marianne and her father, a rich shipping magnet to get her ready for her presentation in London. By a strange coincidence, Julian Ash, the Marquess of Chelton literally rescues Lily and Marianne from a carriage accident. Julian was not looking for a wife but he became a tiny bit mesmerized by Lilly. They meet again as they both see each other in London and seem to keep ending up in each other's company. As Julian finds out his family is in dire straits financially, he does not want to get married for money and rebels at his fathers pressure. Thus this tale begins! Lily's father is ready for her to marry before she ruins herself and the family name by her escapades!! Can Wild Lily and Julian find each other and happiness! This story has it all!! Mystery, intrigue, strong emotions and the author makes you feel you are there with the characters and are urging them to come together. But a lot stands in the way. You will really enjoy the ride!!! Cannot wait for further books in this series with the great secondary characters I am hoping to appear in!!! Viper Spaulding2,990 24

This is a beautiful historical romance! Set in the late Victorian Era, Julian and Lily are from different social worlds but are drawn together by their undeniable chemistry. That, and the business dealings between their families. As the romance grows they each have to question how much of their hearts to risk, how much the other's heart is invested, and how much is just the business end of the relationship. These are two strong, caring individuals who are a perfect match for each other.

The author writes for the period perfectly, capturing the dialogue, customs, and mannerisms exactly as hoped. Love is a timeless game but the details of how it plays out are unique to each time period, and the test of a good historical romance author is this attention to detail. The character complexity is excellent, with a strong focus on emotional growth. She allows the characters to develop their own personality traits within the constraints of the role they play in society. At the heart of it all is an amazing love story of two people who find in each other the love of a lifetime and the courage to claim it. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. April1,839 74

WILD LILY by Derise Deland is a extraordinary Recency Romance. #1 in "Those Notorious Americans", and what a beginning! Ms. Deland is a masterful storyteller who manages to pull readers into her stories and keeps them turning pages. This is how it is with WILD LILY!

This is the story of Lily Hanniford, an American heiress, and Julian Ash, Marquess of Chelton, who needs to find a way to persuade Killian Hanniford, Lily's father, to pay more for his family’s shipping line. They are in desperate need, due to Julian's reckless father. But, what he doesn't expect is to find Lily so wild, a romantic, and very interesting.
Fast paced, dramatic, romantic and steamy. A bit of mystery, a powerful amount of chemistry, the brashness of the notorious Americans, and so much more, provides readers with a fantastic read. A definite must read! I definitely look forward to more of this mesmerizing series.
I received a complimentary copy, however, all opinions are my own.

Love more than money

Lily is a rich beautiful American whose father wants her to marry a English Lord preferably or any man if she’s compromised with him. Julian gambles but only to add to the his money for tenants and other things his parents especially his father have neglected. Lily is intrigued seduced and attracted to Julian but fears that his parents horrible example on love and marriage mean that this man may never love her or understand how to.
A series of unfortunate family events further separate them. I do appreciate how Julian tries to fix his problems without relying solely on her money. Lily wants to use some of nursing skills learned in TX to take care of he tenants and be useful to Julian and all the people on various properties.
Just when they reach happiness there is betrayal in their household that leaks lies and rumours to the newspapers! Julian has to decide to love his wife and be happy and not let his past dictate their future. But can he? Patricia Taylor49

Wild Lily is the first in a new series, Those Notorious Americans, by Cerise Deland. This is the story of the Hanniford family, an American businessman who has taken his family to Paris and then London to further his business and find spouses for his children. This first of the series is about Lily. In America she has the freedom to wear breeches, ride astride and herd cattle. Now that she is in Europe she has too act a lady and learn the ways of the ton.
As we follow Lily through her story we meet an assortment of her family and members of the ton. As usual Ms Deland has well developed characters and a love story between two very strong personalities. This is a must for every romance lovers to be read list. I can’t wait for the next one in the series. April1,839 74

Lily Hanniford daughter of an American shipping magnet is in Paris with her cousin Marianne when the pair are rescued from a carriage accident by Julian Ash, the Marquess of Chelton. I’ve read other books by the author which have been very good but this book is at a different level, a must read. The characters almost come to life & you feel you are with them. The story is very well paced & drew me in from the start, there’s mystery, intrigue & of course romance. I could wax lyrical about it but instead urge anyone who loves a romance to read this captivating book

Exciting and Romantic!

I absolutely love this series! In Book one of Those Notorious Americans, Lily Hanniford is an American with a penchance for trouble. All of the qualities that a man could want is found in Lily except for her disregard for propriety. She does not want to bend to a husband's will. She wants to live her life as she sees fit. She continues to do as she pleases until she meets Julian, Marquess of Chelton. Julian sees Lily as a good luck charm instead of a wife. His luck is about to change but is it for the better? Can Julian tame Lily or will he throw convention to the wind and join in her wildness! This novel had me enthralled from the very beginning! Margie1,716 24

I am a big fan of author Cerise DeLand. She always tells the best stories. Wild Lily, the first book in her Those Notorious Americans series starts off the series with a bang! Another great story! I love the characters, both good and bad. Cerise DeLand has has done a great job with her characterizations. The pace of the storyline moves along quite well and the story unfolds so well it is hard to put this book down. So I didn't.
