The Lay of Drystan and Eseult

As Arthur (Artorius) is minimized, Tristan (Drystan) arises from the murky mists of the Camelodian legends.

Why there are so many strong, mind-limited types in the protagonist’s role in these novellas is a question I’m not able to unwind. It may be perplexing and a bit annoying, but Pilling’s Grace with words and speedy movement of the plot is something I greatly appreciate.

Great Series

These are great book that are not well written. I have enjoyed reading them. Historical fiction that is well written. What a tough time to have lived. Alison Bahmüller30 1 follower

This novel is a very original version of the tale of Drystan and Esyllt, better known as the doomed lovers Tristan and Isolde, set at the end of the 5th century in post-Roman Brittania, when Artorius (Arthur) was High King.
With a clever mix of action and adventure, interesting and convincing characters (I particularly d Artorius), some fantasy and a bit of magic, the author has created an engaging story, that makes you want to read on and see what happens next. The story is beautifully written and rich in period detail. Battles play out excitingly, and there are many surprises!

Very happy with this book. The story of Drystan and Ysselte is told in a beautiful manner. Arthur's fall from grace and his return to a part of his past glory is described well. The final scenes involving Drystan and his lover (not described here due to spoiler reasons) are amazingly described, and took me completely unaware. Kudos to David Pilling for writing such beautiful literature.

Would recommend to others and will read the next sequel if and when it is released. Jerry Mercer390 6

Great Story

Based on Arthurian legend, this book has captured the essence of the characters, real or fictional. The action is well-written and the descriptions are believable. An Interesting presentation of the age old story. Bill K59 1 follower

Another great story from David Pilling

I have really enjoyed this series. All have been interesting and exciting. Not the traditional tales of Arthur based on English and French stories. Jack Porter1 review
