Definitely NOT a Twilight lovestory

Darren and Evra the Snakeboy join Mr. Crepsley (Darren's guardian/vampire sire) as he tries to suss out who is going on a murder-spree in town. We are introduced to the Vampaneze - semi-evil vampires (they are only semi-evil based on their philosophy on killing humans).

Note series is geared towards boys - action, adventure, blood, guts and gore. Which, I found equally enjoyable when I was a middle school girl first reading this series. However, during my reread, I noticed that it feels the author wanted to expand the audience by adding in a bit a spice in the form of a love-interest (Debbie).

This quickly becomes a painfully shoe-horned lackluster romance thrown in for the heck of it. After two books of absolutely no love-interest, we finally see Darren Shan take an interest in girls as he meets and befriends Debbie.

I remember my first time reading this (about 10 years ago) and literally looking away from the book, going, is that it? I wasn't expecting some grand romantic arch...but I wanted a little something other than that this cardboard cutout.

However, despite the romance, the plot of the book shines through. I enjoyed this book...though for being part of the Cirque du Freak, there weren't many pages given to the people at the circus.

The best in the series so far. If you're a teenager and you haven't read these books you really should. There are no sparkling vampires, no boys and girls staring at each other across the school cafeteria. It’s just a book about blood sucking vampires. Just the way it should be! داستان جلد سوم یه مقدار کندتر، خطی‌تر و حتی نسبتا قابل پیش‌بینی بود اما نمی‌دونم چه افسونی در قلم دارن شان نهفته بود که با وجود همه‌ی این‌ها، با هیجان دنبالش کردم.

I keep telling myself that I'm going to stop reading this series, but here I am finishing the third one and already about to start the fourth one... I can't help it. This series is just so addicting even though it isn't the best series in the world or anything that.

This one was the best book in the series so far. It had a lot more suspense and happy scenes than the previous two books. A new character was introduced that I absolutely fell in love with and luckily they didn't die, so thank heavens I can have a favorite character in this series finally that isn't dead.

I'm still extremely shocked that this is a middle grade book and that Google recommends this series for kids who are 9-12 years old. This series and especially this book are pretty scary and gruesome. Several scenes in this book had my heart racing and I genuinely felt fear. I can handle stuff World War Z and Supernatural, so I thought I wouldn't be scared by a middle grade horror book, but I was surprised by this book and how much it scared me.

I have one massive complaint about this series, which is that it lacks diversity. There are barely any female characters and of the few female characters in the book, none of them are particularly strong. They are either side characters that no action happens to or they have to be saved by the men. There also was no character that wasn't white until this book. I am absolutely hooked into this series!!!! The first one was just okay, but the second and now third are totally awesome!!! Darren and his story is just so entertaining!!

Darren and his friends are settled in their rolls, but then things pick up and it’s nonstop action until the end. The villain is totally creepy and easy to dis. Evra is still one of my favorites because he’s just so odd! But there are a couple new characters that I’m really digging from this book also.

Point is, I couldn’t wait to start the next one. In fact, I already have. So I really recommend this to those who enjoy books about vampires that have lots of action with a bit of humor.14 s Lizz293 71

Alright, this is me finished with this series. I d the parts where they were at the freak show well enough, but this book takes the characters out of that setting to chase a murderer. Another great book in the Darren Shan/Cirque du Freak series. A book that really is mixing well the action elements with the more dramatic one. We get to see Darren evolve in his new identity and even if he gain some we also get to see what he has to leave behind and what he will never be allow to have and this duality is something that make this series interesting and deeper then most kids series. I also really enjoy the vampire/horror part that make this series good and just achieved the right density of horror to be good and adapted to its public. Perfect in every way! To me, this one wasn't quite as good as the first two. Darren, Mr. Crepsley, after a little convincing, Evra leave the Cirque Du Freak after a Vampire General (also Crepsley's dear old friend) arrives with some very dire news. They arrive in a quaint town and stay at a hotel. Mr. Crepsley goes out every night but tells no one what he's doing. Then six bodies drained of blood are found in a warehouse. Darren thinks Crepsley has went on a killing spree and needs to be stopped. They shadow the vampire and Evra gets caught by the true killer. Can Darren and Crepsley work together to save the snake boy?

This installment in the whole series is my last favorite, which is weird because it actually has a wee bit of romance (I'm a sucker for a sweet romance). The romance is overshadowed though and isn't a gripe if you hate romance. Overall, what I love most about these books, is the action never stops, the pacing is amazing and you can totally knock it out in one day.august-20207 s Daniel446 84

Well, this was absolutely the creepiest Christmas story I've ever read (listened to)! This is a really fun series ... if you're into this kinda thing!
