This book needed another round or two of editing. The dialogue was stilted and felt a bit unnatural for two 30-something POC characters living in Florida. Contractions would have fixed some of those issues, but the lack of them made the characters seem too formal. There were also a lot of grammatical errors throughout, many of which would have been caught with Microsoft Word alone.

Gabo and Alicia both annoyed me and I did not feel particularly invested in them getting together. Other than them being friends for so long, I didn't feel any real chemistry between them. I felt slightly more sympathetic toward Alicia after learning what Gabo did that caused them to lose touch, but I think that reveal came too late in the book. So many of their issues could have been solved just by actually talking to each other, and I felt their lack of communication dragged the book out and made it longer than it needed to be.

I'll give the second book a try because the premise is much more interesting to me, but I simply did not enjoy this one.11 s2 comments LaTosha Webber837 37

I enjoyed enough of this to continue reading. I was intrigued enough to want to see how it all would wrap up. I enjoyed Gabo being a literal book boyfriend. But the rest just wasn’t my cup of tea. Frankly, Gabo didn’t do nearly enough groveling. Alicia had to do to much of the emotional labor. And Gabo never fought hard enough for her in my opinion. He always walked away when he needed to draw closer. Also, the writing style wasn’t my favorite either. But I’ve heard amazing things about book 2 so I’ll be back! 7 s M.L. SextonAuthor 36 books137

This is my first book by this author and I listened to the audiobook. It was sooooo good. Alicia and Gabo are old friends who decided to have a FWB situation, which we all know how that goes. This book was sexy, erotic, heartwarming, and cute. It also helps that the narrators were AMAZING!! I can’t wait to read more by her.5 s Shaye180 119
