A small town rose parade with floats covered in flowers and roses. Small wagon sized floats stand in line, ready for the parade to begin. The less than happy float that is first in line, steps away from her float. The parade is going to start, but, Cynthia seems to have disappeared! Ginny with her parrot Ajay on her shoulder stroll a little way down the road, peeking into the alleyways. Well, to her dismay, she finds Cynthia's body. Upon closer look she sees the front of the victims shirt is ripped open on the top revealing a rose insignia added to her chest. The rose image is identical to Ginny's shop emblem. It is also on the Tee she is wearing. She becomes slightly a suspect and needs to find out not only who killed Cynthia, but, now she needs to find out her grandmothers secrets. Was her grandmother a part of the garden coven? Was Cynthia part of the same coven? was this coven related putting her in danger of being discovered as a witch? Corrine Winters has again surprised me with twists and turns where I had to read to the end to find my guesses were wrong!

3.5* This book started out promising but then dragged. It felt overly descriptive/repetitive at times for my taste, and i had a hard time staying focused on reading. It did get a bit better towards the end. One this I didn't was thr detective had no care intially that she was investigating the murder and gave her information that spurred her on, and then turned around and was all i dont want you getting hurt you should stop investigating, we have to follow the rules so as not to compromise the investigation. This, I think, should have been his attitude from the beginning. Ajay was by far my favorite character.

Corrine Winters is one of my favorite paranormal mystery writers. I love the character development and use of animals. This new series is no exception. Ajay is Ginny's familiar and not only has a lot of useful advice, is also a heck of defender. Once I started this book I couldn't put it down. There were twists and turns and the major mystery was solved but there is a bigger mystery that will continue into the next book(s). Spellbound Squawks: A Paranormal Parrot Cozy Mystery is book #1 in the Cozy Florist Mysteries Book series by Corrine Winters.

Ginny is a florist and an amateur witch. Her familiar is a a parrot, Ajay, who was my favorite character. There were a lot of storylines and it felt certain things were rushed. Ginny is believable as an amateur sleuth. I guessed the suspect as soon as that person came into the story, but wasn’t sure of the motive.

I was reading another book when I discovered this one and immediately switched books. This is a nice stat of yet another new series. I love Corrine Winters’ books. The nice characters, the paranormal touch, the familiars, the storyline and of course the fluent writing style that makes it so easy to read. A recommendation.
