Coleman is the meh of all things. Is he good? Meh. But how are the characters? Meh. Still, the guy punch ending? Meh.
A fine author of you have nothing better to read.71 s Bandit4,697 519

Continuing a Coleman binge, having gotten a bunch of his freebies recently. This one didn’t quite work for me, though. And didn’t really do much to counteract the 98 degree weather either. But really, this isn’t at all the book’s fault. The book did perfectly well what it was suppose to do, which was to continue the spooky story that started with They Came with Snow. That one was a novelette, in fact so short it was easy enough to reread before starting on book 2. And the original story isn’t just good, it’s intriguing enough to want to know more. Although in retrospect seems I preferred it as a standalone, much as it left to the readers’ imaginations. But at any rate imagine no more, because this sequel will tell you exactly why there is snow in May and why there are creepy snowwhite zombieesque creatures around in a small town and who’s responsible and what can be done. The story takes off exactly where the first one left off and is led in present tense narrative by the same protagonist, a local college professor. But….while book 1 was a creepy claustrophobic scary story, book 2 is a straight up action driven survival tale. And I just don’t think I was especially in the mood for it, although objectively Coleman did a perfectly good job of it. And so I’m not sure I’d continue with the series, although book 3 is due out in 2019. Out of Coleman’s series, I definitely prefer sea monsters over albino mutants and ancient legends over government secret experiments. But mainly, there was just too much action here for my liking. If that floats your boat, though, go for it. It’s fun either way, just different degrees of fun. And now back to melting, literally.3 s Netanella4,371 12

I read this as a two-pack, and have posted each of my individually.

They Came With The Snow
I'm not quite sure what to make of this yet, so I'm setting it to "medium" and continuing on to the second book, "The Melting." Here, in "They Came With the Snow," we get an end of the world scenario with a philandering college professor and the annoying but nubile young co-ed he shacked up with. The world ends in a snowstorm, every one who was caught in the snowstorm mysteriously turns into white crab- creatures, and the college professor immediately regrets his extramarital affair and wants the wifey back.

Yeah.

I'm off to the second book. Gotta figure these crabs out.

The Melting
The Melting is indie author Chris Coleman's follow up to the shorter and much tenser piece, They Came With The Snow. The story focuses on one man's adventure as he finds himself trapped in a mad science experiment gone wrong, where two counties are closed off from the outside world and the majority of the inhabits have been mutated into homogeneous white creatures with black eyes and sharp teeth.

They're referred to as crabs. So here we go, an albino crab, blending into the white sand:

I was entertained with this story, but I really wanted more. And I really had a dis for our protagonist, a philandering English college professor who survives the snow, only to become the smart guy on the block who not only solves the mystery of the snow crabs, but also learns the many uses of fire. (Can you tell I really, really didn't this flawed character?)

Since I'm on a roll, I'd to state that I was particularly annoyed that not only did he cheat on his wife with a young co-ed, who quickly died by crab after she became annoying, he then started flirting with the next young thing that came around, a girl by the name of Danielle. Ugh.

I d the story. But I need a new hero.2018-november-reading-challenges horror science-fiction2 s Teresa1,724 17

kindle unlimited, as keep saying the rating is based much more on me that the writer, as I do NOT post apocalypic stuff, but am a fan of the writer's books in general so always try to keep up with them

I will admit when I read the first book that was only 44 pages long, I thought Wow that doesn't even seem a book, but and introduction, so I was glad that I had made sure to buy the second, which was significantly longer. Very cinematic in his writing could easily have been a movie or tv show. Government subcontractors cause a major enviromental catastrophy for a small county in the US. Bringing on much death and causing people to "change". Very interesting and much action. At the end learned there will be a third installment released in 2019. So read these first, if you thrilling SCI FI.

A new twist to apocalyptic terror!

I debated on giving this story 4 or 5 stars, and finally decided on 5 stars. Multiple errors should have been corrected prior to publishing including using the wrong characters names several times. But, I really d the twists and turns in the storyline as the author stepped outside the box of EMP's and zombies. I read for fun, and this was fun. I am looking forward to book #3, but it will not be available until 2019, and I hate waiting. I certainly do intend to read it as soon as it is available. Sharon Hendrix772 2

Good read

I don't believe I have read anything this before. The idea behind the story, a secret organization committed to creating a creature vicious but yet trainable , sacrificing humanity in the process.
I d the main character, Dominic quite a bit, although he did seem to be quite lucky at the most opportune moments. The action was fairly steady, the gore factor light and the supporting cast is most likable.
All in all, I definitely recommend taking the time to read this one! Now on to book 3. Martin LandryAuthor 6 books7

Great story in need of an editor

I very much enjoyed this new take on [censored so as not to spoil the plot] and would have given it 5 stars if not for glaring editing errors. Paragraphs repeated, character names swapped out, and several grammar mistakes. There are also a couple of minor continuity errors, but these are easy to ignore and don’t detract from the story. In spite of all of this, I still gave it four stars, so you may draw your own conclusions! Timothy Collins90

Very good

This is a really good read. I enjoyed the characters, the plot hums along at a decent pace and I really want to continue reading this series. I have only a couple caveats - I might be wrong but I don’t think that the word “veracity” means quite what the author thinks it does. And there are some very minor errors in formatting - question marks where periods ought to be. But don’t let those tiny things distract from how good this is. robinet142

Loved this book

I really enjoyed the way this author tells the story. This book kept me wanting to read just one more chapter before going to sleep . The characters were well thought out and each of them had their place in the scheme of the story. I recommend this book and look forward to reading the next one. Ginger Robinson212

A Good Post-Apocalyptic Tale

First off, the first book is just a short intro so you need to read book 1 and 2 as one book. This a different twist on the genre and it is well-written. It definitely should have been expanded into a longer novel. The author resists the urge into the kind of warfare so many of these books descend into and writes a good ending.2019 Mike Cannon81 1 follower

Good premise

A few things let down the story. Some readers will ditch the book because of the intense waffle of irrelevant information.
The swapping of a name and extra letters and missing words are more nuisances.
Annoying technology information tjat is incorrect also is a problem. Tanks don't have mortars. Boom boom. Eric Gallagher113

Very Entertaining

So entertaining. I really enjoyed reading this. It felt a mash up of a few different ideas, with a b-movie plot and great pacing. I almost missed my stop on public transport I was so engrossed in the story. Worth reading, feels similar to typical zombie genre mixed with The Mist. BarbaraH614 2

Strange Storm

First there is a loud Book and light, then comes the snow storm that lasts for days in the middle of summer and then comes the creatures crawling though the snow! What is happening here and is it everywhere? Fascinating SiFi! Jennie Ersari408 1 follower

Excellent books!

After a strange explosion, it begins to snow and with the snow, dangerous beings emerge and a few survivors are fighting for their lives . Very intriguing books and I really enjoyed them. Irene O'Brien306 6

A new weapon

This book is excellent if you dystopian stories, it has a bit of everything a hero, the bad guy and the weapon of choice. The book gives an insight into what happens 2with biological weapons and a warning against creating them. Tina Langford292 1 follower

The Crabs

How far would you to make your name to down in history. Well read book two of they Came with the snow. The character s of this series will have you cheering for the survival of the good and the destruction of the bad. Annette Singer3

Definitely a great read

So good, I was finished before I realized it. In this day and age the military doing something mass experiments is a ly possibility. God help us if they are.

It's ok

Somewhat disjointed science fiction tale. I found it difficult to follow the action with so many episodes of sole searching by the protagonist. Could not get a clear picture of the crabs or ghosts in my mind. Overall a fair fantasy read.

First surprising twist in a while.

I was pleasantly surprised by how good this book was, and though it followed a lot of the zombie tropes it managed to make them feel new. I was disappointed by the abbreviated ending, but it certainly spurs my desire to read follow up series. Lee356 6

Not perfect

But it kept my interest. Dialogue needs work. I will probably read the sequel if not overpriced because the premise is interesting and I would to know who the bad guys actually are. Ann Brown2,348 13
