This is book three of the London Fae Court series and the main characters are Lily, the last living descendant of the goddess Fortuna, and Raegel, the Fae Lord of the London Fae Court. He should have actually been the Fae King of Elisium, but his younger brother Dillon took his crown after their mother’s death, refusing to give it up until Raegel completed his prophesied quest to recover all six of the Fates stolen relics. Lily has succeeded in locating four of the relics and Raegel makes a plan to have them returned to the priests in the temple at Elisium, but also so Lily can get access to the large library there, where another relic has apparently been hidden. Someone within Raegel’s team has been feeding vital information to Dillon, making their efforts even more dangerous and difficult. There are now Fortuna and the god of death, working against them, with Fortuna being forced into action on Dillon’s behalf as he has a relic of power that belongs to her. Fortuna is a full goddess and this makes her powers over luck, good or bad, to be more powerful than anything Lily can produce, plus she has had thousands of years to practice using her magic, whilst Lily has had mere weeks! It turns out there are a few more mysteries about Lily’s true parentage, with the identity of her mother being confirmed, but not that of her birth father. Raegel refuses to allow her to make any deals with the gods, knowing just how tricky they can be about them!

Trying to identify the traitor in their midst, has Matthew using his painful magical powers to question someone Lily is sure didn’t betray them, but it does give them the name of the person who did! Lily feels guilty about the pain that was forced on her friend and her partner, knowing exactly how Raegel would react if it was her suffering this. Lily has already managed to beat the god of death, but can she beat him again? Any such deal will always come with a very high price, and could be too high a price to pay and still live the life they want. Raegel has always known what he would do to save Lily, including sacrificing himself if need be! Unfortunately Lily has made his rule ever harder to control, as she isn’t ready for a family or children, something all fae wish for, especially once they find their mate. Differences between them about this, cause his behaviour and mood to escalate into anger and irritability, which will just get worse until he lashes out at others out of control completely! So much has changed already for Lily and she has a lot still to learn about being Raegel’s aeterna, never mind the fact he wants her to be his Queen in the Fae Court of Elisium, a place she is uncomfortable in. Her actions have made some of their friends start to doubt her magic and her not wanting a baby immediately, goes against all fae sense of what is acceptable, especially since it is difficult for fae to get pregnant! Lily must find the last two relics, plus the one belonging to Fortuna, that is forcing her hand against Lily and Raegel.

Tons of steamy scenes as can be expected between Lily and Raegel, as well as another fated mate’s relationship finally getting its chance to blossom. Lily will be pushed to make deals with the god of death or the goddesses of Fate, but she wants something different than what they are offering and they keep trying to tell her that she can’t continue to change fate. She must make a decision and will have to live with the consequences. It was great to see another side of Riven, as he finally accepted he was worthy of love. But is wasn’t great to see the harsh side of Matthew again, as he leads the distrust of Lily, which clearly spreads to the other fae in the court at Elisium, causing issues for Raegel and his attempts to take over the throne that is rightfully his! So much action going on, that there is no dull moments in this book and it pulls you along at pace and you will be finished before you even know it. My only complaint is that there seems to be more extended steamy sessions in this one, that are a bit repetitive in nature, as Raegel stamps his dominance over Lily. Final relics are discovered and the battle for control of luck and fortune are underway, as the story comes to a conclusion you might not expect. Some great characters that I have enjoyed seeing develop over the series and a few surprises thrown in along the way, as Lily gets to know more about how Raegel functions and the new life she finds herself in, with a good few surprises about her possible father and control of her own magic!
