Sinopsis

The discovery of long-lost mail delivers a marriage proposal, a missing person, and a magical mystery.
A road trip with Gabe and her friends leads Sylvia to discover more about her mother's veiled past yet throws up several questions, too. The stack of unopened letters addressed to her family will hopefully provide answers. As she delves into the contents, a startling revelation emerges: the letters allude to a clandestine union between two magician families, hinting at the elusive identity of Sylvia's father.
Full of hope, she embarks on a quest to find the author of the letters, only to discover an artless youth who vanished decades ago, a dead man with the wrong name, and a hospital for former soldiers that connects them. The further Sylvia and Gabe delve into these mysteries, the more lies they expose, including long-buried secrets that certain individuals will stop at nothing to protect.
When danger strikes, Sylvia wonders if finding...M.F

Sadly, this is my first less than stellar review of this series. Makes me long for India and Matt to retire to England. Actually, I keep hoping for a reunion. I think that would be so much fun. As for this one, while it tackled important social topics, as usual, it was simply less fun than the others.5 s Jess3,131 5

THIS IS AN (ACCIDENTAL) KISSING BOOK!!! Ugh, I these dummies so much. Excited for Sylvia that she's gradually finding out more of her heritage even if it's not all good. As her other series… simple and lighthearted.

Murderous doctor (lighthearted see?!) with a goody troup of post world war young londoners and a fmc who can NOT quit crushing on a “dashing” man.

It sadly doesn’t answer the main questions about the protagonist’s family lineage (we are on the 3rd book of her actually being curious). This one has more interactions that are funny and enjoyable. Less descriptive clothing thankfully.

Overall, not sure I’d read this on paper but audiobook is really enjoyable. And I’ll say it again… I love Marion Hussey’s voice! 2 s Jamie299 1 follower

Home sick and read it in a day.

CJ Archer has such a lovely way of making you fall in love with these characters. I loved the Glass and Steele series and I knew I’d love this one too.

Ummmm so:

1. OMG - now we know who Sylvia’s mom is….. won’t post the spoiler
2. Could Daisy and Alex just get together - the the tension is killing me!
3. I need to know ASAP what kind of magician Sylvia is…. She has to have several affinities I’m sure of it. Can she project her thoughts?

Hurry, I can’t wait till September! 2 s Tina25

I love that this book sucks me in and adds new clues so I have to wait for the next book!! ??1 Ashley42

I love this series and I love how frequently they're published! Romance is slow, all of the Archer series I've read. Not a bad thing, but starting to drag. The only thing that bothered me in this book and just in case I'm going to put a spoiler warning when Sylvia and Daisy are with Petra and Sylvia is showing them her paper spell, the paper burns Daisy. So she felt the magic. I can't tell if this was an editing issue or a clue? Or if I missed something. With the information we have now she shouldn't be able to feel magic, right? Besides that, I'm anxiously awaiting the next book!1 Rebecca14 2

I have to be honest that I was a little disappointed in this book. I have LOVED the Glass Library series, but this book just fell short of the past 3 books in the series. It just had that "filler" book vibe, where nothing major really happens and nothing is really advanced in the overall arc plot of the main storylines. I thought finally the mystery would be solved about Sylvia's parentage and who is trying to kill Gabe and why, but none of those storylines got resolved. Instead, the story just veers off course and the duo, along with their friends, just randomly end up solving a murder case that doesn't really have anything to do with the characters or books or the magic system that the author has created for this world. Also, it was SO short, I listened to the whole audiobook in two evenings and now have to wait months for the next book. I also heard there will only be two more books in the series, which is disappointing because I think her other main series in this magic system world, the Glass and Steele mystery series (the Glass library is a spin-off series from this), has 12 books and isn't as good as this series (in my opinion!). I felt the plots I mentioned above should have been solved in this book, and then Archer's final two books in the series could have had one more new unique book-related mystery as well the romances finally being wrapped up as well.
Also, I found it annoying that after 4 books, Daisy and Alex are still tiptoeing around their feelings for each other and constantly bickering etc...I feel at this point, either have them get together or let them go their separate ways.
As usual, I LOVE both Gabe and Sylvia as characters and their budding, slow-burn romance has been one of the sweetest romances I've read in a long time. However, having said that, by this point in the series, I wish the slow-burn would turn into a little bit of a faster-burn! I really wish in this book, they could at least have admitted they have feelings for each other, even if they aren't ready to take the next step, but in this book, their was just a lot of cute, awkward flirting, which was still great, but it is getting frustrating with how SLOW it is developing- in Archer's other books, the characters also had slow burn romances, but their was more steaminess and innuendo and expression/discussion of feelings quicker than here. Trust me, I LOVE slow burn romance, one of my biggest pet peeves is "insta-love" in books (in most cases, there are always exceptions), but this one is going a bit too far, especially since there will only be two more books in the series. I guess we will have to wait until the sixth and final book to FINALLY see them get together and then the series will be over :-(. We won't get to see them solve mysteries and build a life together as a married couple.
I have really loved the colorful and interesting cast of characters in these novels since the very beginning- I love reading their banter and about their fierce loyalty to each other, but in this book it was a tad bit too much. I feel the author could have extended the length of the book by including scenes where it's just Gabe and Sylvia alone together investigating and having conversations/interactions advancing their relationship.
Finally, tiny pet peeve is that while the covers really are gorgeous, they are also a little misleading to what the books are about- it is the year 1920, so why on all the covers is Sylvia dressed up a medieval fairy-tale princess? I don't get it, but really not a big deal.
Oh well, that's just my two cents about everything!
I definitely don't want to diss the author and this book too much because I have really enjoyed her various series for the most part, but I just wanted more from this book!
Anyways, happy reading and God bless!2 s1 comment Rita Marie9

C.J Archer makes magic again

Usually, series have some books that are not as good as their others. But this series, all the books are magical, and the story just keeps getting better and better. C.J. Archer is a Magician being able to give more answers to the underlying story, but the answers eventually give more questions that are just as intriguing as the previous. I also live how each story you get to know all of the characters a little better, and it all feels 100% natural. It's such a good series. I love each second I have read in all the books so far. And I'm really looking forward to the next.

Also, I would to mention the first 3 books I did listen to as audiobooks. Since the audiobook app I use did not have the 4th, I decided to buy it on Kindle. The narrator for this series is amazing and just perfect, so I can also highly recommend the audiobook version. Groucho421,867 2

I the series and I'll keep reading, but this one deserves two-stars for a few reasons. First, with all Gabe goes through, his parents would have returned. I know the author wants to set this in the next generation, but she already has re-occuring characters from the first and the younger set can still be up front.

Second, it's just too simple. Everything is very predictable. The basic story is that they're still looking for Sylvia's parents but a mystery around a private hospital also pops up.

Third, the romance between Gabe and Sylvia remains childish. I know other books move slowly, that's not the problem. That angst on both sides is very old.

Fourth, Stanhope is a cartoon character who continues to annoy.

There's more, but it all adds up to the reality that as smoothly as the author writes, what she rights isn't still working. She needs to freshen it up. Lourdes912 12

Following on the latest clue about Marianne Folgate, Sylvia and Gabe make an unexpected discovery which will lead to a stack of undelivered letters that might shed even more light on Sylvia’s ancestry, but when the letters lead them to a young man who supposedly died in the war, a new and dangerous path on the investigation will open for our heroes.
I have to admit I’m tremendously enjoying these books and the way the author mixes elements to build the intrigue, adventure and flourishing romances while keeping the interest of the reader and giving us enough to want to see the series through the end.
I the fact that the stories are not overtly long or pretentious, maybe to appeal younger readers, and they are fun, entertaining with their mix of fantasy, history and puzzle characteristics. Reading the adventures of this motley crew is a good distraction for anyone who enjoys traveling to another time in the pages of a book.

This is an author who "loves history" but, by creating an alternative 1920 England in which magic is part of the mix, seems to permit herself to do negligible research into manners, language and routines of the period in our world. The writer is, apparently, Australian, but the spelling, and often the language, are more American. which can sometimes be jarring. The plot gallops along, though the resolution seems a bit brusque, but I don't really believe in the characters or the world-building.

I'd give it 2.5 stars if that were an option. I must try to remember not to buy the next in the series. Alicia115

Somewhat confused. The audio book ended but felt there should have been more to resolve the story of her mother and possible paternal parentage. I went looking to see if the book had more chapters (audio only had 19 chapters) - couldn’t find anything online to confirm the audio had the entire book there. Will see if the local library has the book to try to confirm the #…I have enjoyed this series and am not vested in the first book of the Steel Mystery series. Hoping there will be another book that will wrap up the loose ends of the relationships between Gabe and Sylvie and Daisie and Alex… Danielle Themer2

Our favorite librarian is back, and she is busy: searching for answers about her family, navigating complicated feelings, and learning about her newfound magic. Sylvia begins looking into her family history but quickly stumbles into a decades old missing person case. The Dead Letter Delivery is the fourth installment of the Glass Library series, by C.J. Archer.

I listened to the audiobook of The Dead Letter Delivery, and I am rating it 4.5 stars!

The Glass Library series takes place in a magical imagining of late Edwardian England. I love the cozy vibes from this series, so The Dead Letter Delivery acted as a great palate cleanser between some heavier high fantasy for me. I love seeing the evolution of the characters and their relationships over the past four books. Sylvia's relationships with Daisy, Gabe, and Willie were so fun to see, and I can't wait to see how they all continue to grow over time. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, The Secrets of the Lost Ledgers, which will be out in September. Dotti137

We continue to follow the lives of Gabe and Sylvia as they set out to solve a missing person’s case. The book centers around a sanitorium that now treats war veterans, but used to have a different clientele. After reading so much of the original Glass and Steele series, it’s hard to remember Sylvia and Gabe’s individual quirks, but it’s fun to see old friends and exciting to follow a mystery.

Once again, we are sloowwwwwly burning towards a real romance, but with no end in sight, I assume we have a ways to go until we see Sylvia and Gabe together.2024digital Diane492 10
