This was sweet.
Enid shifts for the first time just as Derwyn is getting mauled by naked bog women in Book 2.
The story starts with the mauling scene and it was hilarious the way Derwyn viewed it.
But before Derwyn can finish bonding with Enid, his nob friends and nob not-friends show up to bring him back to the tower. Enid is not impressed by his poorly thought out priorities.
I loved how Derwyn makes it up to her (and to the rest of the bog shifters).
A sweet short story and a happy ending.
I was not a fan of Derwyn in the first book and his thoughts about Cadoc and Rosie didn't make me more inclined to him. But Enid is his epiphany and his chance to get it right.

Oh, what sweet read. Their story is happening alongside book two.
Derwyn's rejection wasn't really one. He had to follow orders and send her away to keep her safe, but to Enid, it really felt one.

It was a smart plan for the bog to help Rosie. Even better was Derwyn finding his mate during this chaos. I did hate the choice he had to make and how that left Enid feeling. I love Cate C. Wells' writing. Although this was a novella, it was a super sweet short story. Me met Derwyn in the last book while he was hanging out in the bog keeping an eye on the alpha's mate. This picks up right where she escapes and he is boondoggled by a bunch of the pack females. While trying to fend them off, he is hit with the sweetest scent of lemon and that scent would lead him right to his mate.

This story also deals with the caste system within the pack and how it affects mates from different sides of the track. Great little story!

- LOL You just have to Derwyn. The distraction of the scavenger women (compare also: The Heir Apparent's Rejected Mate) is just incredibly effective and funny.

Derwyn's first encounter with Enid was a bit "unfortunate", but on the other hand it also shows that an urgent change of mind should be carried out in this pack. - Enid is right, when she says that mates always come first; not the alpha and the duty.

This story was adorable. Derwen didn't have much character at all in the second book, so it was great to get a sense of who he was. What I really enjoyed though was a sense of how the pack mating dynamic was meant to work - yes it gets disrupted but it's nothing in the main stories. Would I have d it of the story was longer? It was too short

We were introduced to Derwyn in the previous book. Now it's his turn to find his mate. Unfortunately, pack hierarchy calls and his newly minted mate, Enid, finds out that she comes in last. At least that's how it feels to her. To Derwyn, he's faced with trying to choose between the lesser of 2 evils.

I'm sad that this was a novella, rather than a full novel. In just the 2 short chapters, the author managed to not only capture my attention, but left me wanting more. These 2 characters could definitely hold their own in a full length book, and I hope one day the author will go ahead and flesh out their full story.

This was super cute. I fell in love with Derwyn the minute he flexed his biceps for the grandmas. I did, however, think that it was very funny that his reaction to the mass starvation and oppression of an entire class of people was essentially to re-enact the Lonely Island’s “I’m on a Boat” music video. Two chapters wasn't enough!!!!! Stuck between a rock and a hard place Derwyn has to walk away from Enid. Given her experience with nobs, she doesn't expect much else but thankfully Derwyn proves her wrong and this super cute story is the perfect addition to the series. This author definitely knows how to write nice scenes. I especially the first one between the two. If only they weren't interrupted.

Hardly a rejected mate! I really don't novellas because they always end up unsatisfactory and this was no exception.

My advice, treat this as a bonus epilogue chapter. Thats it.
