SUPERNATURAL x CRIMINAL MINDS

Yes. That’s an odd combo. But that’s exactly what I was thinking about when I was reading this. Take the supernatural adventures of Supernatural, mixed with the danger, drama, and cop business of Criminal Minds, and I think you’ll have a good idea of what this story is .

This is NOT my usual read. AT ALL. But I still ended up very much LOVING this story.

The writing is absolutely fantastic. It’s quick, clean, and easy to read. I LOVE that. But it captures the voice of the protagonist, Jayla, so well. You can hear her sass, her pain. I think it legit works perfectly, especially for this type of high-stakes, high-drama storytelling. I’m not a huge fan of flowery language, so this was a huge win for me.

Did I mention high stakes?? Because I love high stakes. And this story has high stakes that are also PERSONAL stakes, and that’s a huge win for me. Fae are taking over the country. Okay, yeah, that’s sad, right? But no, Jayla (and her family and friends) are dragged into the fight, very personally, and very logically. And I love when the plot is LOGICAL for why a person is singled out to fight the big baddie, you know? So if you love lots of conflict, tension, high stakes (that are also personal), this will keep you entertained.

The characters were FANTASTIC. They were all fully fleshed out and played their roles perfectly. Jayla was a great protagonist, and it was really nice following along in her head. Her thoughts about things were logical, and emotionally powerful. , I genuinely FELT I could put myself in her shoes. But dang, the other characters are delightful. I loved Grayson and Travis A LOT by the end, and their dynamic with Jayla was fantastic. But honestly, Wenslo ended up being my favorite, because he’s very intriguing. Special shoutout to Phoebe, also. She wasn’t in there much, but I loved her.

Another great aspect of this book? It’s relatively clean. There are some mentions of violence and blood, but not terribly graphic. Definitely right around that PG-13 vicinity. I don’t gore, and I didn’t have any issues with what was in here. No sexy business or language, either. Overall, a safe read for any audiences 13 and older!

This is a fantastic read that I would recommend to anyone who loves a little fantasy thrown in with a little agent-y cop business. (Seriously, it reminded me so much of those episodes of Criminal Minds where the baddie goes after the agent and their family out of revenge, and it turns into this epic “Must fight back to protect my family at all costs” scenario. But with magic and fae thrown in. , that’s just spiffy.)

Seriously, highly recommend. E.G. MooreAuthor 6 books49

Wow, what a ride!

I’m not usually a big fan of urban fantasy with a cop for a main character. Storm of Magic is a great exception. Instead of a super tough, no emotion female character, we have a trained, flawed, hurt newbie making her way in life who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and is thrown into a battle with the fae trying to take over LA. Jayla is estranged from her husband and daughter, who she loves a lot and is the major motivation behind every decision that she makes, even at the climax when she has to attempt to save the world.

When she and her partner accidentally disrupt the making of a portal, they face a fae woman attempting to bring her crazed fae husband to earth to wreak havoc. Jayla’s able to break the portal, making the fae woman a predator after her blood to reopen it. The book is fast paced, almost thriller , and there were several shock moments when danger resurges or we learn just a bit more about the fae. Kayla also discovers she may have a little magical help inside her to help defeat her strong, mythical enemies. I love the vulnerable character that is Jayla, plus the secondary characters the criminal Mr. Abeyta who gives her safe haven for information, her grizzly partner Grayson, the mysterious fae expert Wenslo, her concerned husband Travis, and her sharp female police boss Captain Harlow. I look forward to reading more in the series. ya-fantasy Penny2,497 70

This is a new author to me, and I was happy to give it a try. While the storyline and characters are not exactly what I would normally , I still quite enjoyed this book. Poor Jayla is not a light and happy person, but she’s definitely on her way there. However, that is all derailed when fae come to her town, and she is right in the crosshairs of the ones trying to come to our world. This is an interesting take on UF. Usually the fae are “good” and already here but in hiding, but this is another look from the other side which I d. I’m happy I read this. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed. Debbie Eyre4,909 99

This was a great read. We dive into a city where we meet our FMC Jayla whose a rookie cop out on a call when she crosses paths with a very dangerous fae who has opened a portal to Faerie to bring danger and chaos through to earth. Jayla thwarts her plan and then all hell breaks loose! Exciting and enthralling, this urban fantasy is full of action, adventure, mystery, intrigue and twists and turns and a few surprises and I thoroughly enjoyed this. Lunar Witch211 7

This book is full of twists and turns..you're never sure who to trust. Jayla is a cop who is living in a world where the fae have only recently been revealed to the public. On a routine call, Jayla and her Partner come to the attention of a dangerous fae woman who threatens everything they hold dear. Can Jayla keep everyone around her safe? Where will this new path take them? Kirsty Carruthers54 3

Very good reading. I really enjoyed the storyline and the book is well written. A bit more attention could maybe be added to world building as there is not much information there. The characters are well thought out and the story flows at a good pace with enough action to keep interest. One to be added to your read list Veronica RamirezAuthor 2 books
