When her family suddenly need her, Ella is forced to give up her dream of saying no to Christmas.

The problem is, she didn't account for Jude.

Nicely done coming of age story about a budding, fraught relationship between Haley and Kate. One. of the silliest titles ever, but well done, believable characters within supportive families and community. 3.5 stars.10 s Tinything245

This is a cute story. I had fun reading it. I also enjoyed the dialogues between characters. Kate and Haley are adorable together. Haley is out but not comfortable being herself or in the middle of others’ attention. she out but not proud. And i really Kate, especially when she initiated to get Haley’s attention. Kinda cute in a way. I also Marie, she quite a funny woman. And for some unknown reason, i really Eddy too. For a 15yo, she is kind of a strategy, plot and planning things ahead of her. No angst for coming out. People around them are supportive. Somehow this book gave me quite a few mental images. And i found them funny, to me.

A fun read. Small tiny little angst, barely exist i guess. No sex scene. Likable characters. And i enjoyed the book. At least it’s getting me out of a reading slump a little bit.9 s Heinerway763 95

Oh, the good old teenage angst. Anyway, the story was fun.angst young-adult6 s Geo (rain)224 22

3.5 stars rounded up. This story is about two young women in their last year of high school (actually a few months away from graduation) who find themselves falling for each other.

It's predictable, with very little conflict or drama, but it's a positive and sweet story. The characters, with the exception of two who seemed much younger or older than they were, were believable (although no one ever swears, haha, so that may not feel so believable), and likable.

Overall I really enjoyed reading it.bought-2017 fa lgbt ...more5 s XR1,735 98

Sweey and cute story but the ending was oddly abrupt.20224 s Sonja440 34

Oh man, this one made me sad. The description sounded SO wonderful and a book that'd be right up my alley.

However, this had two major problems:

#1: All the characters in the book seemed super one-dimensional and bland. I never really got an idea of who any of them were, which ultimately hindered my enjoyment of the book itself and the developing relationship.
#2: The dialogue was really clunky and probably contributed to the character problem because a lot of what came out of these characters' mouths seemed they were not things actual humans would ever say.

There were also issues with too much telling, not enough showing. I wanted to love this so much more than I did because the premise of it was fantastic, but I thought it just wasn't executed well at all.

I'd go ahead and say Kate was still the best of the characters (but even that isn't saying much) because Main Girl (whose name is apparently Haley, I just had to look that up) did not seem a real human being. Listen, I get being awkward and a mess around the person you have a crush on, but she was barely functioning. , come on. They also kept teasing Haley "accidentally coming out in English class" and the entire book never mentioned HOW that happened? And "this girl in my school hates me just because, no reason needed, okay cool" also seemed really lazy writing.

God, I just wanted this to be so much better. Sigh.fiction-lgbtq read-in-2017 romance-lgbtq ...more3 s Starsandsun18258 1 follower

Teenagers and their reasoning are always the best, everything is dramatic.
"She had no idea the stress she had put me through just by acknowledging my existence."
Epic!

I want to read more about Kate and Haley and their sweet and easy relationship.
They're too cute. :)

If you laid back and uncomplicated books I think you will this one.

Say yes to this book if you feel reading a nice feel good little book that is a quick read and will make you feel better for having read it. Sometime it is good to read a book that makes you smile.

That was cute.

At first it looked another one of those books where people can only be gay or straight, but it's not.ff1 Raven Etheridge7

Such an excellent read! I'm so glad I took the chance and bought it. The plot was excellent and I'm so glad there's finally a story where the popular girl goes after the girl who is less known throughout the story. It was very well executed and I'm glad it wasn't cheapened by having it end being a prank halfway through.

The dialogue was really good and I enjoyed Haley's inner monologues and thought process. I love getting a peek into a character's head. Not a lot of authors use that opportunity when it comes to first person or it's not established very well but Abby Crofton was able to do just that. It was amusing and I could very much relate to the character of Haley and her nervousness and doubt. I enjoyed watching her relationship with Kate unfold slowly. I loved the emotions that was conveyed and I was able to understand what the characters were feeling. I would have d a bit more background information on the characters so that they would be slightly more fleshed out but I still enjoyed reading about them regardless. I was a slightly disappointed that we didn't get to see them go to prom or see their relationship develop further but I'm content with where the story ended.

Perhaps there will be a sequel of their story??? *Nudge* *Nudge* *Wink* *Wink* Overall, an awesome read and story. I'm always a sucker for fluff! I would definitely recommend this to anyone. Cindy Stein646 7

Haley is a high school senior who came out to her English class and is now trying to keep a low profile. She's never been on a date or had a girlfriend, but she has a made crush on Kate, a cheerleader. When Kate smiles at her and asks to borrow notes for a class they share, Haley's best friend is sure that Kate is interested in her. But Kate is adamant that Kate is straight and just wanted her notes. But then Kate asks to study with Haley and they meet together at Kate's house.

Most of this book is spent dealing with Haley's anxieties and low self-esteem. We never really know much more about her than the fact that she's certain Kate wouldn't want to be with her. Even her coming out episode doesn't find its way into the book.

The laser focus on the crush and the developing relationship doesn't provide a good enough reading experience, especially about the main character. I wanted more. 2022 lesfic-ya Lee30

I wasn’t impressed..

I bought this book thinking it would be really cute and sweet, but I wasn’t impressed at all. The story could have done so much better than it did. I also feel the characters could have been more developed than they were but the book is already published so nothing can be done about that. The author had a great idea with the generalized plot but it just could have been done a little bit better. Lexi D23

Not finished yet, but what else am I supposed to rate a book in which the protagonist reacts to a character being bisexual by wondering if they just want to get with her to talk about boys? No. Just no. I hate ALL OF THIS.This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.Show full review Jen O21 3

Simple fun storyl-lbgt Deborah López81 2

i decided to read this book because i thought it'd be a silly rom-com. and it was. but it was also more than that.

several things surprised me. first of all, i actually laughed out loud at a lot of moments and dialogues, especially from the main character's little sister and best friend, and i was not expecting to find this book so understatedly funny. secondly, it was not about the coming out process necessarily (though it is mentioned a lot): the main character's been out for some months now and we don't see some big fallout, and everyone just treats the two girls as two high schoolers who have crushes on each other, not really caring about their gender most of the time. maybe it isn't that realistic, or maybe it is becoming more so nowadays - and i get the importance of coming out stories, especially in ya books when the target audience is teens who may be questioning - but it's just a really different and refreshing take on the subject.

furthermore, i d how the author mentioned/touched upon a lot of important issues gender, ancestry/cultural background, weight. even though she doesn't go deeply into any of them, it was interesting to see them mentioned and the characters' opinions (and sometimes nonchalance) about them in a way that didn't make it feel preachy or, how some people to call it, "politically correct" without deviating from the overall mood of the book.

the beginning of the book is a little slow, it took me awhile to get a rhythm, and another reviewer has already said, there's a lot of "kate monroe" in those first few pages. it was driving me crazy a little bit too. but i get that it was a way the author found to show us when the girl went from being an idealized version of herself in the main character's head ("kate monroe") to being her actual self, and the girl we start to see from the third or fourth chapter (just "kate").

i guess maybe some of it has to do with the fact that I wasn't expecting much from this book beyond light entertainment, but i found myself very pleasantly surprised and i actually really, really d it.8s wlw moxieBK1,708 4

Say Yes to the Cheerleader (The Say Yes Series Book 1) -- Abby Crofton (14 chapters)

**There is no sexual scenes in this book, (beyond what is normal, typical high school dating: kissing and light touching.) I have no issue recommending this to YA readers.**

This was a great, fun, quick YA lesbian read (YA bisexuals would enjoy it as well.) I really enjoyed the way this story was written. I believe this is as close to YA straight romance novels as you can get. Except for being same sex, it doesn't feel any different from any of those straight books, which I found refreshing. There were no guilt trips placed on the girls and no anxiety (other than what is found typically in these stories.)

I thought that the parents were a bit unrealistic, but I am from an older generation, and maybe (hopefully) this parental position is changing.

I also enjoyed that not all lesbian (gay, bi,) youth do not naturally get along. I thought that is very true in my experience and was nice to see in this story.

Overall, a very nice, fairly realistic telling of a YA lesbian romance.

I'm excited to read more in this series.

I was not expecting to enjoy this book . I was pleasantly surprised! Crofton does a good job of capturing the melodrama of adolescence while still making Haley lovable and relatable. The author also makes Haley's relationship with Marie realistic. What surprised me most of all was how believable and organic the realtionship and growing feelings were between Kate and Haley. The overwhelming majority of romances in novels progress too quickly, and readers have to dispel their disbelief. This book feels a slice of real life. If you feel a quick, sweet, charming and realistic story, this book is for you. Skip Maslan218 4

Very sweet!

This was a fine story. Realistic characters that pulled you into their lives. Looking through the eyes of teenagers can definitely put a different perspective on things. Cynthia999 29

Easy, light and fast read with a Mexican-American main character (though it has no bearing on her life) and a bisexual love interest (actually says it and explains it and refuses to be lumped in as gay), who makes an effort to respect that her girlfriend does not PDA at allqr Laura1,880 62

I really d the relationship developing and how real the emotions were. Being out in high school can be so scary and then the first crush actually liking you back can be absolutely mind blowing. It did follow some, some parts of it were predictable but the end was so sweet and beautiful. queer-lit sapphic Mirtha Siblesz651 6

I made the mistake of starting this book on a morning when I had a lot of things to do. I didn't want to put it down. Sweet, engaging, worth a good mix of laughs and tears. Angie616

A beautifully written Christmas novella that will certainly get you in the Christmas spirit. I absolutely loved this book and certainly didn’t want it to end. For a short story the book isn’t rushed and certainly doesn’t lack detail.

I love Ella and Jude. Who wouldn’t want to love a handsome, doctor that makes you fall in love with Christmas all over again. Why would she give him up in the first place??? when the truth is unveiled, it’s heartbreaking!

Another fabulous book by Cassandra P Lewis, I most definitely can’t wait for Christmas!!! 3 s Jenny H282 2

A great Christmas romance. Ella hates Christmas. Too many bad things have happened to her on Christmas Day, even though it's her birthday. She plans to spend it alone but then her Mum phones. She needs to go home after all. Not only that, but her ex is the doctor treating him. He also lives next door to her parents' house, so she can't avoid him. They were brought up together and were an item until she left for London. Will they get back together? A lovely story, just right for reading in comfy chair with a log fire blazing in the hearth.3 s Jean3,144 30

What a great Christmas story.full of magic with characters that you can relate to and a wonderful storyline. Ella and Jude have a past history and when Ella has to go home because her family needs her she wasn't counting on seeing Jude again after all she was the one who broke his heart even though she has regretted it ever since. Jude is a doctor and loves Christmas but what he didn't expect was to see Ella again and realise that he never stopped loving and wanting her but can be convince Ella to take a second chance on them or is he going to be heart broken again. I definitely recommend you read this book as it is so well written and definitely worth reading.

This is a fantastic Christmas read and I just loved the main characters. It’s one hell of an emotional rollercoaster, a fantastic second chance romance and such a feel good read that left me with that awesome Christmassy feeling. An interesting storyline with characters that are easily relatable, a snowstorm, some humour and yep some teary times but omg what a fab read! 2 s Mel376 13
