Bill Runner is an investigative journalist turned thriller writer with a passion for cowboy novels about lone rangers. Using his experience and interests he has created Axel Blaze, an all-action US Marshal, dedicated to resolving difficult situations quickly and permanently.

Unchained Fury is the fifth in the series of six Axel Blaze books and the first that I have read. The lack of background didn’t spoil my enjoyment as the action started from the first page and continued throughout. Runner is a proficient writer with an easy to follow style. The plot was relatively simple but with some interesting twists and turns.

The lead character Blaze is an all-round perfect hero; intelligent, strong and resourceful. With the help of his three former colleagues he appears capable of anything. They also have a knack of anticipating exactly what actions the villains are planning.

Whilst their actions provide exciting entertainment I am sure that they are not an accurate representation of the work and methods of the US Marshals service. At times the violence they exert seems over the top so be warned that there is a very high injury and death count. This book is not for the squeamish!

Although Unchained Fury was only published this July, No Escape is due to be available from 1st December 2023 so Axel Blaze fans will not have to wait long for the final episode.

Whilst I found Unchained Fury compelling and generally entertaining, reading my rating is measured because of the violence. I have awarded 4 stars.5 s1 comment Janalyn Prude3,318 93

Please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review. This book starts with the bang they try to kidnap a housewife but unfortunately they picked the wrong housewife because not only is she bad to the bone, she also has friends who are just as bad. When transporting two criminal Brothers they have a five man detail on them because they have friends in very low but very powerful places and when one of the brothers offer Axel A choice between gold or lead axle ignores him and so now the brothers are after him when they try to escape they get one but the other gets away and when they start coming for Axel and his friends they say every dog has its day and every man meets his match and today is the day Dexter and his brother meet theirs. The only problem is Axel has to work with what he has but what if everyone involved in the case isn’t working to get and keep the men behind bars? This book was so good I love good against evil book but Axel does not follow the rules he follows right and wrong and forget the paperwork he is a man on a mission and a dog with a bone and I love that this is the fifth book in the series the axle blaze Thriller books in the series is still going strong. I do wish that would be a little more growth with the character of axle and I do say some but I love these books and want to know more about his personal life. This is a great book and one I definitely recommend.

Relentless. Blaze’s vengeance
When he catches wind of the ruthless Cady brothers resurfacing in San Francisco, Blaze can hardly believe his ears. Without wasting a moment, he boards the next flight to the city. Within the next forty-eight hours, SanFran transforms into a chaotic battleground. Blaze unleashes a storm of mayhem upon the streets, confronting one villian after after another.
With every encounter, Blaze intensifies his pursuit, leaving a trail of shattered enemies in his wake. He's a relentless force of retribution, a living embodiment of the consequence they brought upon themselves.
Waiting for the next adventure!

Good old fashioned pulp fiction

Not at all complicated - just non-stop, violent, bloody action. I enjoyed every minute of this book and the ones that preceded it. These are among my go-to reads while on the treadmill. Actually reasonably well-plotted and clear villains, heroes, etc. the dialogue is simple and to the point ( aside from a few-to-many”bros that is). Bottom line is that if you enjoy pulp fiction - with a lot of pulp - then you will enjoy these. Not great literature by any measure, but satisfying. Sort of a PBJ compared to a filet: both filling but there is a difference. 2 one hour sessions on the treadmill and done. Very efficient and focused. Bette Reith154 4

Unchained Fury is the 5th in the Axel Blaze series. A few years ago, two brothers tried to escape a courtroom in order to prevent jail-time. One was injured and put on death row, the other escaped in a plane only to have it crash killing all on board. Fast forward a few years and they may have been spotted in a local restaurant. But how can that be? Now Blaze discovers there is a contract on everyone who was on security during that failed transfer. Fast and furious, this book pulls in old comrades, crooked police, and endless bad guys. Not as good as the previous, but still a great read if you straightforward thrillers. Thanks to BookSirens for the copy of this book. Kat1 review1 follower

Blaze is a hardened force!
Blaze has no time for nonsense. The news hits Blaze a sucker punch: the heartless Cady brothers are out on the street of San Francisco. He jumps on the next flight, ready to unleash chaos in gritty alleys of San Francisco. In a span of forty-eight hours, pandemonium erupts as Blaze takes on a relentless barrage of adversaries. Streets once familiar transform into battlegrounds. Each encounter fuels his determination. Blaze's path is set, and the countdown begins, marking the seconds until his enemies face their reckoning! Loved every scene!

Another non-stop superhuman adventure of the almost cliched Axel Blaze.

As always lots of action with a high body count but whereas the first 2 books in the series felt a little different from the norm in this genre the last 2 books have just been really interchangeable with pretty much any series. Really become quite generic...

Fun for a couple hours of no-thinking required entertainment. I'm unly to continue with the series though Phil Brown2

I’ve read all the previous Blaze novels and this one, I finished in record time. As usual, non-stop action.
Blaze is in San Francisco this time. There’s a death threat on everyone from his old Marshals team. Blaze isn’t just taking on bad guys, he’s digging into a conspiracy that has everyone stumped. The writing kept me on the edge of my seat.
Keep going, Bill. Loving your books! Cherie Melbourne1,061 11

Non stop, page turning action encompassing a story I couldn't put down. I love Axel Blaze and the way he maims making sure the bad guy is stopped, yet can't get away and he does not disappoint, plus, we now have more him.
I won't give away spoilers.

I'm a big fan of the Axel Blaze novels. I have been ever since I read the first one a couple of years ago. This one doesn't disappoint.

Axel is a cross between Jack Reacher and John Rambo and is always determined to see justice served.

Fast paced thriller with plenty of action that keeps the reader hooked to the very end reviewed1 patrick Lorelli3,396 30

Blaze and his team from years ago are now being hunted by men that they put in prison years ago. When the book opens you don’t think too much of it and then suddenly action starts and you are then hooked until the end wondering how it will end for everyone. A very good book once again and very much worth the read. I d all of the characters as well. I received this book from Netgalley.com

Another kickass Blaze adventure!
Blaze lets out his fury on the streets of San Francisco. The bad guys have put up a hit on him and his old team from the Marshals. Good characters – all the Marshals are real badasses. Especially Garcia and Britt. And as is the case with every Blaze thriller, the action is non-stop. The thrills keep coming. Loved every bit of it. ShanDizzy 1,152

Hit them first and hard!

When you put out a hit on the US marshals who arrested you, expect a world of hurt. But when you include their families on that list, expect swift and decisive actions that you will not walk away from. Abigail L.1,038 60

A heart-pounding thrill ride that will satisfy fans of action-packed thrillers. Runner's ability to combine breakneck action with well-crafted storytelling is truly commendable. If you're looking for a book that will keep you hooked from start to finish, this is a must-read. john parry265

getting better

Best Blaze yet….good story great blood guts and gore.
Real past turner…only two sittings and that’s this one done,
Can you beat book 5….looking forward to the next chapter…bring it on ! Don Sinquefield40 2

Decide now

Not having any idea if they actually died, they didn't.
Having left knowledge with someone who couldn't take pain, bad idea.
Not knowing Blaze never gives up worse idea.
Getting beat at your own game was bad enough almost, death was the end.

Rath have no Fury!

Another cracking instalment, fast paced action all the way. Mess with Blaze of the Marshalls at your Peril! They take no prisoners fighting for what is right. Excellent. Roger1,540 5
