It's tough to squeeze five stars out of me. To me, a five star book is one you will think about long after it is over, and you will want to re-read again and again. Pleasure's Edge was that kind of pleasure.

Erotic romance author Dylan Ivory is a woman in control. After growing up in a dysfunctional household, raising her younger brother and subsequently losing him, control is how she stays sane. While researching her new BDSM book, she is encouraged to interview experienced Dominant, Alec Walker. Alec, a writer of dark physiological thrillers, lives on the edge and he is more than willing to give Dylan a real life glimpse of the lifestyle. But when the two meet, control begins to crumble.

To be honest, Dylan's research with Alec into BDSM really just sits as a backdrop to their developing relationship. Yes, they visit a BDSM club and yes, spankings are pretty standard when the two get together, but the BDSM stays on the light side, making it very palatable for those who only dip a toe into the genre. The heat comes from the carefully woven scenes between the two. The tension and lust were melting my Kindle. These two are hot for each other they've never been before, and it is amazing the sheets don't catch on fire.

Pleasure's Edge was a masterpiece of character development. Both Dylan and Alec keep lovers at a distance. They don't do relationships. Hot sex, yes. Frequently and without guilt. But there has never been any compulsion to attempt a relationship, until now. I loved how Ms Berlin used the character's self reflection throughout the story to help me climb into the skin of each of them. They are both genuinely confused as they experience new emotions in these uncharted waters. The way they hold part of themselves back, hold their secrets tight, is so realistic and left me wondering at the mystery of what shaped them to be as closed off emotionally as they were. It was a thrill discovering who these two were and what they would become together.

I've been a wary reader of BDSM romance, slow to warm up to the pleasure/pain dynamic, but I'm a big fan of Eden Bradley/Eve Berlin and I'll try anything she writes. This is the only book I took home from the RT Convention. So glad I did! I think the reason it worked so well for me is because of the author's keen insights into a world that is quite foreign to me. In Pleasure's Edge, the psychology of the characters is explored as deeply as their sexual connection.

Dylan, the heroine, is aloof but able, with very relatable flaws. Experimenting with submission helps her access her emotions. The hero, Alec, has a similar character arc. Being in control allows him to stay at a (safe) emotional distance. Falling in love with Dylan changes him completely, but he wasn't cruel or unyielding to start with. He shows a lot of tenderness, even in his dominant role, and the BDSM scenes from his POV are excellent. This is no heartless alpha a-hole.

Both characters undergo a beautiful transformation and have amazing sexual chemistry. I truly believed in the HEA. Great story, lovely writing, a real pleasure to read!!

She sees herself as independent, and in control. She scoffs at the idea of submitting to anyone. But Alec reads her and can tell from their first meeting she needs to submit. Up for the challenge, Dylan agrees.

Pleasure’s Edge is the first book by Eve Berlin, which is the pen name for Eden Bradley. This book definitely has its steamy moments, with a very dominant hero Alec. He teaches Dylan to submit, even though it goes against her nature. Dylan throws him though – he is not used to being so infatuated with someone. He s to play, then walk away. He can’t walk away from Dylan. There are times in the book he can’t even make it home without turning around.

There is lots of naughtiness with spankings, dirty talk and a BDSM club called The Pleasure Dome (Love that name). While sex dominates this book, we also dive into the characters backgrounds and analyze their past and present behavior. I didn’t love Dylan – she just didn’t have a ton of personality. I d progression from refusing to believe she was a bottom, to her eventual love for Alec. But I also think she was missing that spark that makes characters come off the page. She was just kind of boring.

Alec is a thriller writer, but his career never comes into play. His character actually doesn’t feel a writer and I kind of wish that his world was explored more rather than just Dylan’s.

So overall, I d Pleasure’s Edge. A little predictable, but a nice mix of plot with hot smex that will keep you turning the pages.

The couple meets, falls in love, and has a big misunderstanding. I hated the reason for the misunderstanding. She falls in love with him and then believes he will leave her eventually. So she breaks up with him so she can grieve for him now and be done with it. If she stays with him longer it will hurt more later. He asks her what is wrong, but of course she won’t tell him. So he can’t discuss it with her, or reassure her, or anything.

I’m not sure why but I wanted it to be over, I just wasn’t emotionally engaged. At times there was too much pondering. There was no interesting relationship development or interesting personality. It was just “lust at first sight.” They had to have each other as much as possible.

The purpose of the story is lots of erotic sex scenes. In most of them he is causing her pain with spanking, flogging, pinching, etc. Her pain makes sex better for both of them. There are sex toys and some rear door activity. I think there is only one scene where he ties her arms. There are a couple of sex scenes in front of others at the local fetish club. The sex scenes were ok.

No ha sido para nada el mejor libro de este tema que he leído, la trama está perfectamente estructurada, las escenas sexuales están bien descritas y llevadas, hasta logra contar con un ritmo fluido y presto; pero ya está, eso es todo lo bueno que tiene. Porque la idea era muy buena pero se quedó en eso, no ha sido bien explotada y se ha quedado todo como en una nebulosa superficial.

Los diálogos e incluso algunas situaciones -sobre todo al comienzo y al final del libro, donde todo pasa de repente sin ninguna razón de peso,- son artificiales, metidas con calzador; algunas frases o expresiones se repiten a lo largo del libro lo que se hace pesado de leer. La atracción y el deseo son algo lógico que aparezca desde un principio, pero de ahí a no poder parar de pensar en esa persona cuando solo la has visto una vez me parece demasiado. Por si fuera poco la autora solo se ha centrado en los protagonistas, toda la historia gira entorno a ellos, solo presentándonos ocasionalmente a algún amigo, y como no he logrado conectar con los personajes la historia tampoco me ha llenado, no he logrado vivirla, sentirla, como en otras ocasiones me ha pasado.

WOW! My fingers were scorched reading this book. I didn't think I would this book because of the strong BDSM theme but went ahead and tried it anyway. I BDSM but the more mild version not the full on lifestyle. I was also a little worried that because they jumped right into the sex there would be little story or character progression. The characters were not cardboard characters but fully fleshed out and were not perfect they were flawed and knew it in regards to relationships but willing to keep their agreement even though both felt something beyond the sexual. There really wasn't anything ground breaking as far as story telling but the growth that each person went through and their relationship growth was so well done.

Really really enjoyed this book. I felt such a connection to this book, Alec reminded me of my husband with the little things he does (especially the goatee thing that I love so much). This book reminds you to live and let live, don't forget the past but leave it there and live for today. If we didn't take risk or opportunities we will never know what happens. "Pleasure's Edge" is definitely a recommend read, very emotional, gives you that feeling in the pit of your stomach that makes you turn the page over and over, could not put it down. The characters were well developed and very likable. Both had some issues but it did not take over the story.
I enjoyed how patient Alec was and that we got to see that they had a life outside the bedroom ( or dungeon). There was no "master" or "slave", just Alec and Dylan. How about i start with something simple, this book was so forgettable i actually had to look up the characters names again while writing this review because i just for the life of me couldn't remember.


Now for the why? It's quite simple, the reason i have this 'book' 1 star is because it's one of the most boring books i have ever read and usually i am quite tolerant. There could be such a great story if Eden Brandley could have writen this as a trilogy, now the characters pasts are rushed through, its almost as if she is outlining the book in bullet points.


Another thing that annoyed the hell out of me was that Dylan was supposed to be resisting the submission but all it turned out to be was her saying "nopw, not a submissive" and then melting putty the moment he got his hands on her, it was all so unrealistic and horribly portrayed. But thats not all, the conversations between the characters just dragged on and on and on, you could almos hear all of it spoken in monotone, and everything is examined so carefult, leaving no chance for imagination, for example when they speak of their lives: their interests, their pasts. Every single insignificant detail is mentioned. Where you would have been fine with "yes, im a bit nervous" she branches out into an ages long paragraph about every single thing she is felling, let me tell you this: her skills with emotional multitasking are unbelievable.


On to the next rant: The author feels it necessary not to only have Dylan complete these unbearably long monologues, but she also has the tendacy to make her repeat it all again with extra detail (which i did not even think possible but was sadly proven wrong) after each of her encounters with Alec (going back to the first sentanve of this review, for a moment i thought hios name was James)and then becomes a mess and starts blubbering about even more emotional nonsense.


I realise that i havent spoken about Alec as much yet, well thats because my main problems aren't with him, sure he too has way too many emotional monologues about being ooh so confused with his 'need' for Dylan, but to be honest, if you ttok away all the emotional nonsense then I wouldn't really have much to complain about him.


Ok, so maybe you are thinking of buying this for the 'kinky' sex, well don't even bother. The sex scenes are boring and nothing new, the only kink there is, is spanking and to be honest it is so not worth it, i was fighting to stay awake throught this whole 'novel' and regret spending the money i could have used for something so muck more interesting.


In the end, this is a summary discription of the book: Boring as hell, as realistic as a unicorn riding a bicicle and a waste of money.

She meets the sexy dominant named Alec who is attracted to Dylan and challenges her. Alec feels he can train Dylan into a submissive, not just tell her about the BDSM lifestyle. But Dylan surprises him with a counter offer. She will agree on one condition. If he cannot prove she is a submissive then he will let her dominate him!! Alec agrees. And the battle of wills between them begins!

This story is scorching, there wasn’t a moment when either character wasn’t thinking about the other and getting HOT under the collar! The storyline made sense and flowed well but some readers may find there is a bit too much sex! I particularly d that Dylan and Alec are completely turned on by each other almost every waking hour. This book was very focused on each character and how they felt about the other person. It was refreshing not to have: a mystery, some sudden danger that occurs to either of the characters thrown in to ‘add’ to the plot or another character tossed in to muddy their growing relationship. This made the story very straightforward and easy to read. Those who love sexy scenes will also love how Alec is so focused on pleasuring Dylan and making her ‘his.’ Dylan has control issues related to her family history and letting go was a big part of her transformation that added depth to the story.

If you love hot sex with an edge you will definitely enjoy this book.

Tal como qualquer livro erótico há sempre certos conteúdos que estão mais presentes do que outros. E na literatura erótica está claro que esse factor é o... sexo. Sexo este que está na moda como sendo algo mais... hum... doloroso! Aqui, ao contrário da personagem Anastacia de As Cinquentas Sombras de Grey, Dylan, cujo nome me faz sempre confusão porque ligo-o sempre a personagens masculinos, até gosta e pede mais.
Apesar de haver uns certos diálogos e pensamentos muito melodramáticos, achei este livro mais fácil de ler e melhor de entranhar.
O que menos gostei foi mesmo da tradução. Li com tradução brasileira e devo dizer que há muito vocabulário, como por exemplo "cacete" em vez de "porra", que estraga completamente a cena.
De resto, o sumo que se expreme de uma obra destas é satisfatório para quem se quer iniciar nestas leituras mais marotas. Não esperem uma obra-prima, ou um romance sentimental. Há, como começo a perceber que acontece em todos, um ego e uma autoestima muito diminuidas, tal como repetição de pensamentos.
O ponto alto aqui, e os parabéns ou vão para a tradutora ou para Eve Berlin (talvez mais a segunda), é mesmo o sentimento de atracção entre as personagens. Devo dizer que de uma ponta a outra, do inicio ao fim, senti bastante o sexappeal e a atracção sexual entre os dois personagens! Como todo o leitor e escritor sabe as emoções são o mais dificil de descrever e de fazer passar através do papel/ecrã e aqui esse factor está conseguido com nota 20.

Quando me chegou a notícia de que Eva Berlin iria ser publicada pela Quinta Essência, esta veio acompanha de muitas expectativas pela comunidade de leitores que vou seguindo e esse foi, essencialmente, o principal motivo que me fez querer experimentar a sua escrita. Não estou arrependida, de todo, pois gostei muito da forma como a autora trabalha os pormenores que tanto significam para mim, no entanto para quem procura encontrar uma história de amor forte onde querubins e corações esvoaçam pelas páginas desengane-se, este é um texto de atracção fatal, paixão escaldante e desejo carnal puro.

Tal como a capa e sinopse permitem antever, esta é uma obra que cariz sexual forte onde o magnetismo entre os corpos, os corpos de Dylan e Alec, se revela logo nas primeiras páginas.
Como protagonista, Dylan é uma mulher de convicções fortes, tanto profissionalmente como intimamente, traços que lhe foram impostos pelo seu conturbado passado. Sendo escritora de romances eróticos, esta é cuidada no seu ofício, e quando resolve começar a criar a sua primeira obra de BDSM descobre que terá de se envolver, profundamente, na sua pesquisa se quiser dar vida às suas personagens. Desta feita, procurado uma referência nestas práticas em Seatle, é logo a partir das primeiras páginas que assistimos ao encontro de Dylan e Alec, um escritor famoso e um espécime raro de masculinidade que saberá encaminhar com astucia a nossa irredutível protagonista para o seu mundo de êxtase. Gostei muito de Dylan enquanto personagem. Confesso-vos que me deliciei enquanto ela própria se tornava uma personagem em desenvolvimento na realidade. No que respeita a Alec muito pouco tenho a dizer, ele é um galã nato, cortês e muito belo, que partilha a profissão da protagonista, noutro género literário, algo que complementa com um modo de vida arriscado e apelativo, no entanto estas são características pouco desenvolvidas sendo mais interessante citar os seus dilemas, como a entrega ou negação ao afecto, do que o seu perfil de arrasa corações.
Quando a intervenientes secundários estes são nulos, ou quase, na acção. Existem, efectivamente, personagens provenientes do passado que são inactivas mas influenciam os protagonista e, ainda, os amigos de Dylan e Alec, Mischa e Dante, respectivamente, que após uma breve pesquisa verifiquei que cada um deles será protagonista nos dois restantes livros da trilogia. Este será um dos meus incentivos para próximas leituras.

Um dos pontos que mais me atraiu durante o folhear foi a exploração do lado psicológico do BDSM, até porque fisicamente não acho que tivesse existido nada de particularmente chocante ou violento, um ponto positivo para as leitoras mais susceptíveis. Assim sendo, a forma como a protagonista se foi deixando seduzir e submeter à nova realidade, em que entrou por opção mas que lhe é contraditória, é sem dúvida um elemento positivo, assim como a verificação das alterações na sua mente, num contexto íntimo, através de uma luta interior constante que acabou por alterar, inclusive, a sua rotina diária com a admissão, a custo, de um gosto pouco convencional em relação ao prazer que, neste caso em particular, revelou bastante em relação a si própria.

K n?jaké té souloži tuším došlo až v polovin? knihy a pak už to jelo pomalu jak na b?žícím páse, ale i tak autorka nezapomn?la na samotné hrdiny. Jejich vztah byl moc p?kný. Dob?e se mi o nich i jejich myšlenkách ?etlo. Nebyl to v?bec špatný erotický román, jen byly n?které v?ci až moc náhodné. Líbilo se mi, že v knize nešlo jen o sex, ale také o samotné postavy. Není to sice kniha, ze které bych byla naprosto unešená, ale i tak jsem dost zv?davá na další díl. Jde totiž o trilogii a v dalších dvou dílech, které prý Ikar chystá na p?íští rok, se do?káme p?íb?h? o Dantem a Mische.

A ver, ¿por dónde empiezo? Primero que nada, le dí sólo dos estrellas y tengo mis motivos...

He leído varias reseñas buenas de este libro por lo que, cuando lo vi en la librería, lo compré.
Cuando lo empecé, y desde el primer capítulo -o mejor dicho, ¡desde la primera página!- hubo ''instalove'', no me gustó. A ver, que entiendo que un tipo pueda gustarte y quieras, desees, ¡mueras!, por besarlo y etc, etc. Lo entiendo. Pero, ¡mujer!, ¡que es sólo un hombre!

Luego, cuando él la invita a experimentar y ella acepta así como así, me quedé tipo... tipo... recalculando. Entiendo que ella es escritora erótica y quiera, necesite, tener experiencia para sus libros en este tema y demás. Pero sucedió todo tan, tan, TAN rápido -todo en sólo el primer capítulo-, que me dejó media tonta.

Sobre el BDSM, no hay mucho que decir. Es BDSM average, light, por así decirlo. Zurra acá, zurra allá y poco más.

Ahora, los personajes. De más está decir que Alec es hermoso, y que Dylan es muy linda. Pero donde falla, creo yo, es en la personalidad. Ellos son adultos de más de treinta años pero, para mí, actúan de veinte y tantos... por lo que deja bastante que desear en la fuerza de los personajes.
A Dylan la pintan de una mujer fuerte, que controla absolutamente todo en su vida pero jamás, en ningún momento, la escritora nos muestra en qué y cómo es el control que ella ejerce en su vida. Por lo que uno nunca se entera en cómo hace la transición de ser controladora a ''soltarse''... para mí, nunca tuvo control en nada. Por lo que el personaje no hace ningún cambio; no crece. (No sé en los libros siguientes, tal vez ahí se aclare...)
Sobre Alec no tengo demasiado que decir. Es un hombre sexy, atractivo, aunque su forma de ser no me va con la edad...
Pero, claro está, que la edad no tiene nada que ver con la madurez mental.

Y los diálogos... malos, malos, malos. Sólo eso voy a decir.

La narrativa de Eve Berlin es amena, rápida, ligera. Pero, todo lo demás que dije, opaca lo fácil que es de leer el libro...

En fin, yo no lo recomendaría.

I’m not sure how I didn’t know about the lovely Eve Berlin before, but I do now. Ms. Berlin has been added to my must-read-everything-written-by-her category. In short, I absolutely LOVED Pleasure’s Edge.

Dylan and Alec are both authors. They meet over Dylan’s research for a BDSM novel she is writing. Personal experience being the best teacher, Alex offers to instruct her on what it means to be Dominant and submissive. Dylan agrees.

Opposites, Dylan keeps to herself, has few friends and doesn’t stray far from her daily routine. Alec is more outgoing, has friends and is somewhat of an adrenaline junky. Because of a tragedy, Dylan has a difficult time reconciling Alec’s adventurous tendencies.

They make a connection in and out of play time. Both, Dylan and Alec proclaim that they do not do relationships. Discovering love that neither of them is prepared for sends each of them into a tailspin.
I was hooked on page one. The natural progression of what Alec introduces to Dylan in the BDSM realm was very realistic. I loved that there was no 0 to 60 for a new submissive. Meaning, one second the woman is told she’s a submissive and a minute later she is gagged, chained, and being disciplined with a flogger. While I all of those elements, for me the power exchange is a gradual process that is taken seriously between Dom/sub. The realism in Pleasure’s Edge is remarkable.

Lucky for me (and you!), book 2 Desire’s Edge is available. Pleasure’s Edge is so well written; I have no doubt the follow up book will be just as great. I can’t wait to get started on it. It is definitely quite different from "Fifty Shades" and "Bared to you", in spite of following the trend of erotic tale. We have the impression that it is a book more rushed, due to start, which goes straight to the point. Only that the development of the story is different; Here, the mechanics of Sadomasochism is explored, and more understood than in the two books which I cited. We were able to better understand how the thing works, something that was not clear in the other, where the romance of business prevailed. In here, the lust prevails, as well as understanding. The life story of the characters is also very interesting, as well as how they think (by the way, the narrative from the point of view of Dylan and Alec is well explored). It is worth to be read, in contrast to the other two.

É definitivamente bem diferente de "50 tons de cinza" e "Toda Sua", apesar de seguir a tendência de conto erótico. Temos a impressão de que é um livro mais apressado, devido ao começo, que vai direto ao ponto. Só que o desenvolvimento da história é diferente; aqui, a mecânica do sadomasoquismo é explorada, e muito mais compreendida do que nos dois livros que citei. Conseguimos entender melhor como a coisa funciona, algo que não ficou claro nos outros, onde o romance do negócio prevalecia. Neste aqui, a luxúria prevalece, assim como o entendimento. A própria história de vida dos personagens também é bem interessante, assim como a forma como pensam (aliás, a narrativa do ponto de vista dos dois é bem explorada). É um livro pequenino e fácil de ler. O rumo da história fez-me lembrar a "Sedução" de Bella Andre, por serem ambos escritores e por ela estar aprender algo com ele.

Bem, fora isso, é um livro que tem sexo, mas também tem bastante sentimentos à mistura o que faz com que o torne mais real. Este livro mostrou-me o mundo BDSM de outra forma, mostrou mais a verdade sobre esse mundo, ou seja, como ele realmente é (não preciso de dizer com qual o estou a comparar xD).

Estava com medo que fosse mais um livro parecido com o Grey, mas a verdade é que não, e tal como eu disse ao início fez-me mais lembrar a "Sedução", o que até foi agradável, pois já estou farta de ler um livro erótico e o meu primeiro pensamento ser: O Grey? Outra vez? Ok, que é fofo e tal, mas já chega, não?

É uma história bastante previsível, mas não deixa de ser agradável de algum modo. E graças a deus a Dylan tem opinião e não deixa que o sexo abafe tudo (mais uma vez não é preciso dizer com qual estou a comparar). Fiquei bastante curiosa para ler o próximo, que é sobre o Dante, pois (finalmente) não é sobre um homem, alto, ok ele é alto, mas não é extremamente musculado (e é por isto que disse finalmente)

Não percebo porquê que quando falam de livros eróticos e sobre BDSM, o exemplo que dão logo é a E. L. James com os livros do Grey, sinceramente, não o achei chocante e depois de ler o "Porque és minha", onde existe o Ian e de ler este onde existe o Alec, percebo que foi um mundo que a James não procurou saber muito e que na realidade está bastante verde (mas isto já sou eu a divagar)
