I'm lost for words. This book is everything and more. Keaton and Ari are and will be forever perfect for eachother. Their journey wasn't easy and let me tell you it was a heartbreaking bumpy ride. The love and care they had was simply stunning to read.
I adore this world that Ash has created. As usual there were points where I was a sobbing and snotting mess but also a few gasps. My heart is now fixed!
A perfect story in a perfect world. Congratulations Ashlee on another amazing book!
Looking forward to what's coming next!2 s Antonia Byrne16

The Betrayal by Ashlee Rose is the third book in the Illicit Love series and while it is an interconnected standalone, it is highly recommended you read the following from Ashlee before diving into this one as it features some characters from previous books: Something Worth Stealing, (Dex & Sage), Dear Heart, You Screwed Me (Killian & Reese), The Resentment (Kaleb & Connie), The Loathing (Titus & Amora) and just for fun Savage Love (Xavier & Royal).

This instalment follows the story of Keaton Mills and Arizona King, he’s 47 and she’s 21 and they’ve been living together in his home for a while as he also happens to be best friends with her dad and took Ari in when her dad was on a job and soon sparks were flying. Forced proximity and a drunken night of truths being spilled made this relationship go from wanting and longing to hot and heavy and then the continuous broken promises of it always being the last time.

Arizona is an aspiring doctor, but when she failed her intern exams, pride made her not want to work beneath the peers she used to be ahead of so she turned to working in a lucrative gentlemans club and also as a cam girl. She had one specific client who was always around and when they meet in person for the first time as he requested her privately from the club she worked it, it was a horrendous experience, resulting in her confiding in Keaton later that night but only in part with the help of Tequila. Having been keeping her own secrets from her friends and family and Keaton being the only one who knows about her job, she tries to push on and soon finds the handsome Mr Mills keeping watch on her as she works.

Keaton works in the accounts department of the company owned by him, his brother, and their two friends (Kaleb, Titus and Nate) and while they are looking for the man who is after Titus and Amora he is also struggling to hide his relationship and growing feelings and affection for his best friends daughter. He is not a weak man by any means but for Arizona? He will get on his knees and crawl for her. All she has to do is command it. He is torn between his loyalty to his friend and his love for Arizona and we can see the struggle he faces as he tries to play mediator between the two.

Their relationship has a lot of twists and turns and there is also the fallout of when all their friends and family find out about them being together and as these characters try and work through their feelings together, there is a common enemy lurking in the shadows ready to strike and we see the feelings of betrayal still simmering but reuniting to take down the one person aiming at them helps heal some of the fractured relationships.

The story contains and accidental pregnancy, a vegas wedding and is packed full of action and emotion. There are some very harrowing scenes depicted and implied and I would say this is one of the darker books in the series so always check triggers. That being said, the dark element of this book is very fitting to the story and characters and really pulls together the subplot that has been running throughout the previous three books.

The way Ashlee writes her characters and conveys their emotions and feelings you feel that you are living through it with them and this book made me feel every single emotion. I laughed, I cried, I got angry, I got happy and to me a good book is one that enables you to get out of your head and feel what the characters are feeling and everything Ashlee writes, does this for me. Oh and if that wasn’t enough? The chemistry between Keaton and Arizona is absolutely sizzling from the pages and I struggled to put the book down.

All in all, one if my fave reads of the year and I cannot recommend it enough. This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.Show full review1 Katie Murphy665 69
