This was pretty good, nice character development and a few twists and turns that were unexpected. I was immediately hooked. I d how the characters developed their own strengths gradually.
And even though I may not d some of the decisions they made I understood why they did what they did.

Juniper Rise is the second book in Mayfly Hollow series, but I read it as a standalone and got my bearings just fine.
And it's a damn fine read.

I was hooked from the very first page, which rarely ever happens, and yes, the story was that good! It was hard to set down after that first chapter.
Great wordbuilding and deliciously gory scenes, wonderful characters and a plot full of unpredictable twists, whenever you least expect them.
And I absolutely loved Sofia. Her mix of vulnerability and strength was perfect, just as her growth throughout the book.
The romance didn't quite work for me, but that may be just a personal preference and apart from that... A damn fine read!

I received an ARC from Anne Lucy-Shanley and this is my honest review:

She has done it again! After reading Mayfly Hollow, I was totally looking forward to Juniper Rise and Ben’s story. I never felt I got enough of him in MF, so it was such a delight to have the opportunity to read an ARC of Juniper Rise!

Before I get into the characters, I just have to say how easy it was to read this third person POV. I find third makes it difficult to connect with the characters, but you really don’t even realize you’re reading in the third person with how well Anne writes. She has perfected it to her voice and vision, and it shines brilliantly in Juniper Rise (Mayfly Hollow, too!)

On to characters + plot!

I felt as though Sofia was so naïve in the beginning, but I think it was so helpful for her character growth for her to get out there on her own and walk away from the safety she clung to for so long. Before she got to a point where she ran into other people, it was a little slow for me. I wanted more, wanted to see how she would be able to fit in with other survivors. Then it happened, and I couldn’t get enough. She is definitely pushed into scenarios that have you wiping the sweat off your forehead in anticipation. I loved seeing her grow and shift from having that young adult perspective to being a survivor with instincts that save not only herself but others on numerous occasions.

Ben is such a strong character from the start. Naturally, I wanted to read all about him. He has this tough exterior that makes him seem broody and closed off, but he has been through so much and it has weathered his soul. Still, when he meets Sofia, he can’t deny the chemistry that’s there (even though he tries to). It’s interesting to see him open up and admit his flaws and share the secrets that made him who he is.

The story line was good, too! Definitely threw me for a loop when they were noticing changes with the Z’s. So, I’m interested to see where that goes if and when Anne releases the next book in this apocalyptic world!!

It's Official I'm hook line and sinker into this Apocalyptic World... When I say this book has literally everything you could possibly want and things you didn't even know you wanted!!!! There is So Many Completely unexpected things that will just blow your mind!!! There's Uncertainty, Fear, Friendships, love, hate, Steaminess, Angst, Betrayals, Literally Any feeling you can possibly have!!! I thought that book 1 was always going to be my Favorite...Butt She had to go outdo herself with book 2.. Soo now Juniper Rising is definietly my favorite!! Although I'm still All about book 1 Mayfly Hallow! I don't know how she did it, buttt, this world is ... AGHHHHH, I Can't Express enough How much I thoroughly Loved This story!! What she's created out of the Z's, what she's goingwith it Is 100% unexpected And Brilliant!!! Once you pick this book up you won't be able to stop reading it... it's addicting because it Literally has ALL THE FEELS!!! It can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend to Start at the Very beginning with Mayfly Hallow because It's where this apocolyptic world and the Impossible situations of what am I gonna do, Who do you trust, where do you go, and will you ever be able to have a home again?!?! The characters in both books are phenomenal from being absolutely lovely too these other characters that you'd love nothing more than to throttle them!! What a great book! JUNIPER RISE continues with the characters of Anne-Lucy Shanley's MAYFLOWER HOLLOW and introduces a new heroine -- Sofia. First let me say, Sofia is smart, sexy, strong, and plus-sized! What a refreshing choice, right? Lucy-Shanley's characters are always singular and fully realized, but we tag along with bated breath while Sofia finds her way through youth to blazing womanhood amid powerful romance and danger. I was totally invested in Sofia and her lover, Ben, and followed their journey, scarcely able to put this book down. Although it's a sequel, JUNIPER RISE is easily understood and enjoyed on its own. Juniper Rise is book 2 in the Mayfly Hollow storyline and I loved reading it. It picks up pretty much 6 months after the first book ended. Things are progressing and growing at Mayfly Hollow teams have been sent out to find more live more live humans that are willing to help at Mayfly Hollow.
I love the two main characters
Sofia Spenser is a plus sized gal with the will to live but she is alone doesn't being by herself. Sophia is very vivacious and has a caring heart.. Sophia learns more about her feelings when she meets Ben (who Sophia thinks is hot as anything).
Now Ben.. He was a Defense Attorney by trade before the Virus .. he is out on a mission to recruit new members to bring back to Mayfly Hollow.. when he see Sofia hot sparks fly.
I loved the feelings that both stir up in each other... it gave me lots of warm fuzzies on the inside.
Do Ben and Sofie bring there emotions under control when tragedy happens at Mayfly and show there true feelings or does it all fall apart?
I loved the ending.. and I can not wait to see what happens in the next installment of Mayfly Hollow. This book is a definite must read and worth the 5
