This was a sports romantic comedy.

My family is dysfunctional, but these characters are Olympic level dysfunction. The story had moments of character growth, self awareness and all the feels along with a ton of steam and angst.

Abigail Bennett is a poor little rich girl. She wants to be a sports agent. Her parents are totally overbearing and need to control every aspect of her life. She has 2 older brothers - Brandon who was disowned for going into professional hockey and Jonathan who works as a financier. She comes across as helpless and overly emotional.

Xander Hamilton is a defenseman and co-captain of the Minnesota Cats professional hockey team. He has a temper and attitude problem. His controlling father is his sports agent. He has a younger sister Janie who he is trying to have a relationship with but is clueless as to how. He comes across as arrogant, cocky and emotionally stunted with trust issues.

Abby scored a six month internship with the Cats and gets an apartment across the street from the arena as part of her benefits package. She calls her two besties Riley and Hannah and gives them a video your of the building. When she gets to the gym in the basement Xander thinks she is a paparazzi and grabs her phone smashing it. Her friends call the police. Next morning at her work orientation the new interns are touring the arena when Xander sees her and verbally lambasted her in front of everyone. He later helps her warm up after she starts to get hyperthermic. They both end up in his bathtub and flood his apartment and his teammate Noah's apartment below him. He lets Noah move into his place and he moved in with Abby. Meanwhile her boss is trying to get him released on waivers, his relationship with his father is blowing up and her ex Wesley asks her to come home to help him. Their relationship imploded and she goes to New York to try to reconnect with Brandon who plays for the Cats arch rivals the NY Sliders. Abby and Xander reconcile, she becomes his agent and they get their HEA.

Puck with Karma is Book 2 of the New York Sliders series. I have been so excited for this story since reading book one, which I highly recommend reading before this one, although not required. It's a steamy, enemies-to-lovers, slow-burn, age-gap, opposites-attract, forced-proximity, grumpy-sunshine, girl gets her hockey player romance. Abigail (Abby) is a young socialite who wants to be a sports agent and go to college but has a highly controlling mother who feels she just needs a socially acceptable marriage to succeed in life. Xander is a hunky, grumpy, cocky, intense, arrogant, and broody professional hockey player for the Minnesota Cats.

These two characters have some serious family baggage that definitely affects how they handle relationships. While I hated Xander in the first story, this one gives great insight into why he is the way he is. I still wish he treated Mallory better, but things make more sense. When Abby gets an internship with the Minnesota Cats, her and Xander have a series of run-ins that are stressful. But over time, they are forced together, and feelings change. Their chemistry is so intense that at times, I thought my Kindle would melt.

I do wish Abby was more forthcoming with the issues with Wesley and Bran as it would have saved a lot of drama (but where is the story in that ?
