LIFE IS FULL OF RISK, AND SOME ARE WELL WORTH TAKING

The story is a clean historical Western tale that begins in 1876 in Topeka, Kansas. Charity Bowman is traveling the rail lines in search of an adventure. One she promised her father she would take before he passed away. She has been traveling for weeks now and when she arrives in Topeka, she decides to stay for a few days before resuming her travels.

The story will have Charity on a meal stop in Topeka at the Brody Hotel and Restaurant. She is so impressed with the people, their kindness and the efficiency of the staff. She will enquire about staying for a few days before starting back on her journey. A walk around town will be interesting and she enters an emporium with unique items from foreign locations. One small box will catch her attention and she will purchase it.

Gideon Crenshaw is a man who has been grieving the death of his wife and daughter for two years now. Part of him would to shut down the shop in town, but everywhere he looks, he sees the dreams that they had, and so he continues. One customer, Mr. Blanchard, always wants the first selection of the goods that arrive—but he hasn’t come in and Charity only wants the one box, so he sells it to her.

The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people. I d the two main characters and the secondary characters add to this enchanting tale of loss and healing. Charity misses her father but rather than be gloomy, she is embracing the adventure she is on. Gideon is stuck in grief and guilt for not being present when his wife and daughter are ill and die. While the people of Topeka have tried to offer support, Gideon chooses to avoid socializing and accepting invitations. The preacher is consistent but never demanding, and even shows up on Saturday to help Gideon at his house—and Gideon does show up for church. Who knew that a day of fishing would issue an invitation to join some townspeople and Miss Bowman for a picnic? It cracks the shell that had held his heart captive and slowly eases in the healing.

Trouble is brewing, why have so many strangers, and the law showing up to speak with Charity when she is ready to leave town? The accusations against Gideon are harsh, but she doesn’t believe them. Will the truth be revealed and clear him? Has one simple event stirred trouble?

I enjoyed the town of Topeka and the people. I d Charity and Gideon together, and seeing the slow friendship develop. It always does the heart good to see good people, doing the right thing and fighting injustice and aiding their fellow man. One train stop, kindness to friendship in the making, along with healing for another. You’ll have to read and see what and how everything takes place. Best of all, it has the coveted happily ever after ending. clean-read clean-romance kindle-unlimited ...more Marie3,698 36

She gives him hope

Gideon is being crushed under his guilt, nobody else understands the dark shadow that hovers over his days. He is lost in the darkness, but Charity steps into his shop and brings an unexpected light with her.
I love that the moment they meet Gideon can see the happiness and light in Charity, she has such a sweet and open personality that draws Gideon in a way he doesn't understand. This is a lovely journey of hope and self discovery, with an added dash of danger to give Gideon the final push he needs!
A lovely read on Kindle Unlimited. Debbie Thompson424 6

I enjoyed the book! Gideon’s wife and daughter died while he was out of town. He was heartbroken and his grief was unbearable. Charity came to town and went to his shop. She was a light that got thru the darkness. There was excitement in the book. This is a clean wholesome book. I recommend reading this book! Mak ?898 7

Bjoepoca Margie3,550 24

I can understand paralyzing grief especially for a young man with his future ahead of him and a wife and young child to be by his side. Being alone and ignoring the world will keep that pain at bay. Okay, we know that can’t last and the right woman just needs to show up but Charity is a totally unexpected force. I love her and her attitude. She had a wise father. I enjoyed this book.
