Cornish Escapes #3

For Cornish artist Sennen Kellow, that moment comes with the discovery of her late gran's epic love story - a story that happened years before she even met Sennen's grandfather. Now, as Sennen digs into her grandmother's past and discovers a forgotten beach, a hidden poem, and a love that blazed brightly before fate intervened, her search for answers leads her on a fated journey of her own.

This is the first book in this series that I've read. Sennen is a Cornish potter/painter who runs an art store. Tremaine is a wealthy lawyer who has moved back to refurbish a family home. Sennen's gran had found a cave on Tremaine's property, and inside she found a parting glass. The glass is supposed to reveal your soulmate if it's used to toast on New Year's Eve.

Tis story has quite a unique plotline and set in one of my favourite places, Cornwall. It did take me a few chapters to get into the book, This is a romance story that can be a little predictable. A well written story with lovely characters.

I would to thank #NetGalley #HarperCollinsUk #OneMoreChapter and the author #AmandaJames for my ARC of #TheForgottenBeach in exchange for an honest review.16 s Alayne Emmett1,315 94

This was a wonderful book, set in Cornwall, present day. This was made all the more special as it was set in Padstow which is one of my favourite places. The descriptions of the beaches was spot on and the characters were all lovely. I finished this book so quickly as I couldn’t put it down and was desperate to find out the ending which turned out just as I hoped it would. Highly recommended. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.7 s Books523 43

The Forgotten Beach is book #3 in the Cornish Escapes series. I would characterize this book as Women’s Fiction/General Fiction/Romance.

This book was an enjoyable read. The characters are well defined and interesting in their own right. This was a fast easy read. I would suggest though that you read the first two books prior to reading book #3.

Thank you to #netgalley and #harpercollinsuk, onemorechapter. All opinions expressed above are my own.2 s Sammy Jackson472 10

A really lovely read2 s Teresa1,914 14

Though the third book in the Cornish Escapes series, it is only the second one I’ve read. It can be read as a standalone. And both books were really good. The characters are well developed and will have you so invested in the story, you won’t want to put the book down. I loved the bit of mysticism that flowed through the story line. This book was an exploration in growth, self discovery, love, support of family and friends, and a fun mystery. Though a romance, it was a pleasure watching Sennen and Tremaine face their past and develop individually as well as together in their relationship. I can’t say enough good things about this story. You need to put it on your to-be-read list!

Thank you to NetGalley and One More Chapter for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

This is my first time reading anything by this author and it definitely won't be me last. Such a wonderful story set in the most beautiful place described so well I could visualise myself there. Such a captivating story about finding the right person for you despite huge differences in class. Despite who or where you come from your upbringing doesn't define who you will love. I really didn't want this story to end2 s Ritu BhathalAuthor 5 books128

I do love a story that has its roots based in something that occurred in the past of a main character, and The Forgotten Beach was exactly that.
Sennen finds out the story of her grandmother's first love, along with a poem, that tells of a forgotten beach and a special hidden treasure which forsees the future of couples. Settled in a relationship which she wants to move to the next level, Sennen has a plan.
She is eager to trace the origins of this story, and finds herself at Nancarrow House, searching for her grandmothers past happiness, and finds a whole lot more than just a hidden beach, in the end.
Complex characters, with a simple love story, and a heartstopping final arc, but the ending we all wanted!
Many thanks to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK and One More Chapter for an Arc in exchange for an honest review.2 s KDRBCK6,322 46

The Forgotten Beach is a book that took me a minute to get into. But then it turned into a beautful romance story that I enjoyed reading.2 s Julia2,693 82

The Forgotten Beach by Amanda James is the most delightful contemporary novel that I just could not put down. It totally warmed my heart.
The novel is set in Cornwall - a landscape of artists, rugged cliffs and crumbling houses. It is a romantic backdrop with wild weather, smugglers caves and hidden coves. It is an area that begs to be explored.
Parallel to the elements is an old family house. It has been forgotten and neglected and is in need of renovation.
wise, there are characters who need bringing back to life after being dealt blows. As the house becomes more habitable, lives begin to live again.
An old photograph and a poem hint of an old legend and artefacts to be found. Romance is in the air. Tragedy has struck in the past but we are not destined to repeat the past – or are we? Love has travelled down the years, remaining to touch the next generation.
All the characters are wonderfully drawn. There is a beautiful bond of the leading lady with her grandmother, nothing will ever separate them.
The Forgotten Beach was positively delightful. It fired my imagination, put love in my heart and left me smiling.
I received a free copy via Net Galley. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

Oh, Amanda James, you have once again written a wonderful book. This one was absolutely fabulous.

Sennen Kellow is a local artist and shop owner. She is given a poem that her grandmother had written, there is a secret beach local to her. The only way to get to it is through the grounds of an old property, when her curiosity finally gets the better of her, Sennen decides to have a look and see what she can find out.

This is where she meets the rather abrupt, aloof and brusque owner of the property. A London lawyer who isn't exactly charming, but does grant her a tour of the house and grounds. Not wanting to discuss why she actually has an interest in visiting as he doesn't appear to be very open or pleasant.

The author has woven a tale that spans the generations and gives a wonderful account of families of the past. A time when money and status were paramount and marriage for love was worth nothing. The story gradually emerges and it is one that has some wonderful heartwarming moments as well as moments marred by grief.

While the situation for Sennen is intriguing, the author twists a wonderful comparison between the past and the present. It drew me further into the story and at times left me nervously turning the pages wondering if history would repeat itself.

I loved this sense of tension and the uncertainty that the author injects into this story. Using the past and the present, with mystery and romance and then twisting certain things to create a captivating story.

This is one for readers who love to read a contemporary fiction style story, that has echoes of the past, with a complicated and not necessarily straightforward romantic angle. I have to say this is a fabulous read and I loved to see mentions of characters from other books mentioned. While this is part of a series, you could read this as a standalone. But, if you did you would miss out on some wonderful storytelling from one of my favourite authors.

A cracking read from the first to the last page and also the author's notes add a wonderful touch at the end. I would definitely recommend this book. contemporary-fiction romance2 s Bookworm Blogger779 23

I enjoyed this story and the mystery surrounding the parting glass. The idyllic Cornish beach was described beautifully, I felt transported there. i also adored Senneth's shop and her wonderful creations, I was so upset when there was the sale. It was clear to me that Senneth loved what she did and had fantastic ideas on how to improve the shop. Unfortunately for me I couldn't invest myself in the romance side. Three was something about Tremaine that rubbed me up the wrong way and I couldn't feel the chemistry between the two characters. I did however love the story between Senneth and her grandmother and how it all tied in with Victoria.audiobooks netgalley-arcs1 Sheila1,913 5

I received an ARC of, The Forgotten Beach, by Amanda James. This is a sweet story. Sen, is a nice character I d her and Tremaine's chemistry.1 Jane 700 26

The Forgotten Beach by British author Amanda James is a story about a wealthy family, class distinctions, loves found, loves lost, and a hidden goblet that supposedly has the power to cause soulmates to recognize each other. When Sennen’s mother shares the story of her grandmother and the ‘parting glass’ Sennen goes on a quest to find this artifact. I found this character frustrating at times as her constant insecurities often made her socially inept and indecisive. The fact that this reader wanted to shake Sennen shows that Ms. James did an excellent job with her character definition. The big question is whether our fearful heroine will summon the resolve to actually find the goblet and perhaps her own soulmate. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Highly recommend.1 Colin Bell817 10

Sennen is a potter living in North Cornwall who finds a secret from her grandmother's past involving a forgotten beach and a parting glass.
I always enjoy books set in Cornwall and again the author has brought it to life for me. The house sounds wonderful and a visit to the beach sounds would be great, although I'm not sure about all the steps nowadays. There is a definite touch of mystique about the parting glass and its effect,I could understand why some would find this difficult to believe but would be fascinated myself. I'd certainly be out of my comfort zone at a party with "posh" people in it, which makes it easier for me to relate to Sennen. So overall this is a romance with a touch of something special and I did enjoy spending a day reading it.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review.1 Debbie G214

Even though this is book 3 in a series, it’s a stand alone story so it wasn’t a problem that I hadn’t read the others. It’s a sweet, cozy romance with a touch of magical mystery thrown in to the mix. The main characters were very sweet, though I did often feel I was Sennen’s mum watching from afar and did occasionally want to give her a good talking to. Her best friend Jess did that for me though and I did enjoy their friendship. I did enjoy the back stories of her grandma Morwenna and Victoria and loved the romanticism of the parting cup. All in all an enjoyable easy read that left me with a feel good smile. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced e-copy in exchange for a review.1 Linda HuberAuthor 20 books132

Happy endings haven’t been a thing in previous generations of Cornish artist Sennen’s family. A long-lost poem from her grandmother’s past leads Sennen to Nancarrow House and its forgotten beach – and to Tremaine, the owner of the house, who has his own family problems. Can Sennen find the ancient parting glass and with it the happiness that eluded her grandmother? The Forgotten Beach is full of wonderful imagery; you can almost smell the sea as you read and little touches of humour spread throughout the book make the characters come alive. A story of past and present loves and the search for fulfilment.1 Christine Davies290 3

This lovely book is set in delightful Cornwall. Sennen is a potter & runs a shop selling her wares & other knick-knacks for the tourist. She is in a relationship with Josh, it's not all flowers & hearts but disappointment. Her life is stirred when she opens her Gran's 'treasure box' & finds keepsakes that lead her on a path of enlightenment.
Simple story but with such good characters that you can relate too.
I do enjoy Amanda James books, they are always so entertaining & interesting. Add this to your 'to be read' pile.1 Judy Christiana871 11

Delightful story with the past gently woven into the present. The characters in the history were a special part of the book, and I felt their presence as much are the current day characters.

I became quite fond of most of the wonderful characters in this book, of course most books have one or two that are not very able! I especially love the secondary characters of Ruan and Gio, who brought a smile to my face quite often while reading. The characters showed growth from who they were when the reader meets them and who they are at the end of the book. It was a joy to read as they transformed into stronger people.

The plot was unique and I was quickly drawn into the story. This was definitely a page turner for me! A bit of the mystical, a meant-to-be romance, a healing through unconditional love, a mystery to be solved, and a beautiful setting. What more can a reader ask for?

This is the third book I have read by this author, Amanda James and I love her creative and writing style. I will definitely be on the lookout for her future books.

I want to thank HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for giving me the pleasure of reading the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.1 Helen689 19

This is the 3rd book in the Cornish escapes series by this author. I have read the other two books so was looking forward to this one and it certainly didn’t disappoint. It cools also be read as a stand alone as each book is an individual story based on Cornwall. This book was perfect escapism and I read it in almost
One sitting. It was so much more than just a romance as it encapsulated love and loss and mystery and intrigue and how events of the past could shape the future. I loved how the past and modern day were intertwined to create this beautiful heartwarming and at times heartbreaking poignant read. I would love a follow on to this to see how the lives of the characters develop and what the future holds for them. 1 Sarah605 14

The author does a wonderful job of describing the beauty of Cornwall and the small villages within the boundaries. I found this to be a nice romance without getting too steamy. The characters are easy to and it is a quick read. Everything seems to happen very quickly and then there is that jump towards the end that didn’t sit right for me. Overall it’s a nice book and a good beach read. Thanks to One More Chapter and NetGalley for the invitation to read this book.1 Robin1,054

This is 3rd (possibly final?) in the Cornish Escapes series. Each story has dealt with a different supernatural object at the center of a love story.

Sennen is a Cornish potter/painter who runs an art store and has become a bit jaded on love. Tremaine is a wealthy lawyer with parent issues who has moved back to refurbish an old family home.

Sennen learns, through a poem/letter from her Gran, of an old parting glass that her Gran found in a cave on a secluded beach on Tremaine’s property. This glass is said to reveal your soulmate if used to toast on NYE. Both her Gran and Tremaine’s great grandmother found true love this way but not without heartache. How will Sennen’s and Tremaine’s love story play out…will they find both lasting love but heartbreak as well?

While this story was well-written (if fairly predictable), I found myself frustrated at times with both leads (a bit immature, especially Tremaine). And to me, their relationship seemed to progress too rapidly considering they were both coming off long-term romances.

All-in-all my favorite of this series has been the first, and I found the following two just OK reads.

My thanks to the author, NetGalley and HarperCollins UK/One More Chapter for providing the free early arc of The Forgotten Beach for review. The opinions are strictly my own.1 Jennifer Ritter882 21

The Forgotten Beach, by Amanda James, is the story of Sennen Kellow, a young Cornish artist and shopkeeper. Sennen’s Mum shares the story of her grandmother, Morweena, and her love with young aristocratic pilot Jory Nancarrow before meeting her grandfather. Sennen also learns, in a poem left by her grandmother, about a secret sea cave and a magical chalice hidden within.

On the heels of a breakup from her cheating boyfriend, Sennen learns the Nancarrow mansion is being refurbished by the family heir. She becomes taken by her grandmother’s story and snoops about the property while her parent’s neighbor is working on the exterior. When her excursion onto the property results in an encounter with the great nephew of her grandmother’s love, she simplifies the story she was told and says she was curious to see where her Gran had delivered pastries so long ago.

With further chance meetings, the story of her grandmother may just become the forerunner to her own story. With delightful, well drawn characters, a moodily romantic setting, and a wonderfully woven plot marrying past to present, Ms. James has created another excellent story. I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!2 s Allyson813

This is the first book I have read by this author but it definitely won’t be my last. This book was everything I needed to read today. When life gets you down, pick up a wonderful book this. I was swept away from my problems and found myself on the Forgotten Beach.

Sennen owns and creates the lovely handmade items in her shop; she thinks her life is finally coming together, when her smarmy boyfriend is outed as a cheater. She is devastated. Her mother recently showed her grandmothers box of treasures and in it was a poem, that may be a bit of a mystery.

Sennen decides to unfurl and follow the mystery as a way to have one last adventure with her Gran. This takes to the forlorn and forgotten Nancarrow House, where she meets the owner, the stunning, Tremaine Nancarrow, who seems pompous but there is something there..

As Sennen and Tremaine discover one another, she keeps looking for the answer to the poem. This was such a lovely book. It was exactly what I needed. Put this on your summer reading list for sure.arc-and-first-reads Leeanne216 3

Set in Cornwall on the coastline in the present time. Sennen is an artist and displays her works of art in Sea Spray Gifts a shop she runs for her uncle.
Not long after Sennen’s grandmother dies, Sennen’s mother shows Sennen an old wooden treasure box that had belonged to Sennen’s grandmother. The box contains photographs and memorabilia. Hidden in a secret compartment of the box is a photo of a man from Nancarrow House and a poem. Nancarrow House is close to where Sennen lives and Sennen is determined to find out more about the house and the people who lived in the house.
This is a romance about secrets, families and relationships. I loved the way Sennen was able to find notes hidden in secret places and enclosed in the pages of old books. Each new note revealed long forgotten secrets about her grandmother and other secrets of people living at Nancarrow House.

Another story that will tug at your heart, have you shedding tears, as well as laughing out loud.
Sennet and Jasmine are best friends both struggling with relationships trying to move to the next step. As they navigate their daily lives they have to confront dysfunction, infidelity and dishonesty, but also friendship, love and romance!
Dealing with her Gran’s past history Sennen is taken into a whirlwind story of loving the “wrong person” in the past.
Will she find answers in a hidden poem, a parting glass or the gorgeous yet moody owner of the beautiful neglected home with stunning views of the sea?
Laugh, cry and furrow you brow. Great romantic read.

Any book set in Cornwall has my full attention from the outset and this was a lovely example of such a story. Not only could I imagine being there on that beautiful beach but I could happily have been friends with the lovely characters that inhabit the pages of this book. The sweet romance between the two lead characters included some mystery and a little magic which added to the enjoyment. Other characters best friend, Jas, and others were all very able people. All in all this was a warm and tender romance perfect for reading on a summer beach or by a winter fireside. Just lovely. My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC for which I am happy to give my honest review. Macy1,504

What a beautiful story of love, loss, secrets, discovery, family, and so much more. Sennan thought she knew her grandmother, but she discover not as well as she believed. When she discovers a secret she starts to dig and find out who her grandmother truly was and her life experience before she met her grandfather. It leads her down a path of discovery and self reflection. Beautiful writing and wonderful characters made this a wonderful read. This is my first read by this author and surely won’t be my last.

The third in a series of totally standalone stories this book has the same format as the previous two and although I love the setting and know the places mentioned I found myself a bit bored by the formula, third time around. For new to the series authors it would be a good read with an old box with something inside it that takes current female back to her grandmother's story and beyond. It's well written bu an overused trope for me. Sorry Amanda James. With thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for a copy to read and review.netgalley-2022 ShanKL1,238 12

The Forgotten Garden is book #3 in the Cornish Escape Series. It is a cozy romance built around the rich history of long forgotten house and its secluded beach. Sennen uncovers her grandmothers first love, along with a poem, that speak of a secret beach and a treasure hidden in the cave that tells the foreseeable future for couples.

The story is unique, cozy and filled with lovely characters. The romance is a breath of fresh air and the way they speak to each other will melt your heart.
