Miss Phoebe Fairbanks is bored & sneaks into the Moonlight Mystique gambling den where she meets the owner Gabriel Stanton who is called the Duke of Desire. Their chemistry sizzled from their first meeting & their feelings deepen as Phoebe becomes the club’s violinist. I loved how their relationship changed & grew, the banter was delicious & they also shared their secrets. They spent time together & fell in love but disaster is only a step away. Another engrossing romance, I loved both Gabriel & Phoebe & read it in a sitting. The Fairbanks are a strong caring family & I loved how they supported Phoebe.

Miss Charlotte and the Duke is a standalone historical romance by Alyssa Clarke. It is the eleventh book of Those Very Bad Fairbanks series, which this is the first book of the series that I've come across. From reading this one, I am certainly interested in the other books of the series.

Set in Regency England, it enjoyed the set up and development of the Fairbanks family. Initially growing up outside of the upper Society, the family got catapulted into notoriety when the oldest Fairbanks son (Colin) inherited an earldom.

Phoebe Fairbanks is among the group of Fairbanks siblings who haven't found her happily ever after. With unconventional beginnings and unconventional matches, it seems only natural that headstrong Phoebe will find her own path to love. That path starts when she tries to sneak into a gambling hell, where the establishment's owner, the obscenely wealthy Gabriel Stanton catches her, where she introduces herself as Miss Charlotte. Gabriel comes from similarly humble beginnings before making his money. He is also known by the gossip and scandal sheets as the Duke of Desire.

This is all polite society, courting scandal and a lot of fun and discovery. I loved both Phoebe and Gabriel. Not only do they have great chemistry, they also have a shared spark for adventure and chance.

An entertaining book with exactly my kind of hero, a tortured, brooding gaming den owner. But I must confess that this time the book was probably too short to allow the connection between the two main characters to develop properly. There was an instantaneous attraction, but I needed more depth to be convinced by their love. It was all too superficial in my opinion. The lovemaking scenes are gorgeous, though. I didn’t read the other books of the series (or maybe just one, I don’t remember), so I was also a little confused by Phoebe’s many siblings and their spouses and by her background. I was entertained all the same and I love this author, so I will round up my rating to 4 stars.

The very bad Fairbanks have another sister Phoebe who wants more from life and finds herself sneaking into a gambling den. Gabriel, the hard handsome Duke of desire and sin, is truly captivated by her looks and her sass. They negotiate a bargain for their continued relationship. The chemistry and the banter is electric. Past secrets can pull them apart but can they overcome the gossip and ruination?
Enjoyable addition to the series, always a must read.
I received an ARC but the honest opinion is my own. Caligirl147
