Celine Cadieux & her mother fled to England from France unfortunately her father & brother were captured. Celine is a popular member of the ton but her eye is caught by Gabriel Hasket, Marquis of Rycliffe, he has a terrible reputation but she burns for him. Gabriel, however, has no desire to take a wife but though he feigns disinterest, but he’s as addicted to Celine as the rest of the dandies. Then a stolen moment forces their hands, and Gabriel is relieved.
I’m finding it hard to put into words just how heart achingly beautiful this prequel is. Celine appears in the other books in the series & so her station in life is known but even knowing it didn’t prepare me for the end of this book & the epilogue had me in pieces. Beautifully written with wonderful characters & beyond electric chemistry. I highly recommend it but have a box of tissues nearby

I really d the previous books. This author was a pleasant surprise for me.

This book tells the story of Celine and how she met and lost her husband. As I knew it wouldn't have a happy ending, I read it with reservations, but I confess that I found some points strange and I have my doubts that this husband had some secrets. I have to wait for the next book to find out if I'm right or not.

The last chapter made my heart hurt. I was able to feel all her pain, as if that pain were mine. And this author always manages to convey this through her stories.2 s1 comment Carol P - H365 2
